Well, time to start looking around, I guess... · 12:12am September 13th
RIP to my job of the last 23 years, as my position's been eliminated. Nice severance package, but the fact that's the last money I'm ever getting from them is an issue.
Unfortunately, I don't get any money from adminning groups or moderating forums, or I'd be all set.
Going to take some time and let it sink in, and get all ready to go job hunting, I guess.

Dang.
What happened? Was it in retail or something? I've been hearing about how retail has been bleeding jobs left and right; along with tech jobs, too.

This was in tech support. Specifically internal tech support, so if something went wrong with internal products for the company I was working for, I'd either walk them through fixing it, connect remotely and fix it myself, send it up to someone higher, or send it out to a field technician.
"My position's been eliminated" is pretty much what I've got. They've been heavily pushing self service forms and such. Guess they think they don't need as many people actually talking to people and fixing their issues.
I was working from home, too, so I may have to start actually going out in public again...

God, that's really bad. I've heard how remote work has been declining, especially with how companies have been requesting their workers to come back into the office and such.
Hopefully you have some connections and maybe even friends who can help you. You have 20+ years of experience, so it shouldn't be hard to find something good out there.

In my case, the company had already gotten rid of the building we used to work from before we were remote, too...
I have already had one friend suggest I apply to the company he works for and put him as a reference. Not sure if I want to go right back to dealing with phones, though. I was already rather burnt out on them before losing my job.

I wish you good luck with job hunting. Hopefully you'll find something quick.

Thanks!
One former coworker suggested applying where he works and putting him down as a reference, and I've had a few suggestions of places I could try. I'm not sure I want to go right back to something similar, though, and I also want to take a little bit of a break before I start really looking to kinda get things in order. (Such as getting new glasses while I still have healthcare, for example.)
(And I think the severance pay will allow me to take things a little slower, at least.)
