Hiding things from myself

Okay. So as you may know, I'm on a home straight with the sequel. Writing the last chapter. There's just one little problem. I was so vague about something earlier in the story that I can't remember what it was anymore! I had an item of some sort in my mind and I wanted to make it as vague as possible in the story. Only after a long break from writing, I have no idea what it was anymore. It was supposed to be a secret to the reader until final the moment, but now it's truly a mystery to me as well. I remember I had a pretty detailed image of it in my head. But I never put it down anywhere. Guess I'll just have to come up with something new instead. I mean, I may have an idea of what it was, but not what it looked like. Always write your ideas down! It has helped me numerous times to remember something important with other projects!
