So, I've Just Done An Ancestry/DNA Test &... · 9:47pm Jun 1st, 2024
Recently, my family decided to buy one of those ancestry kits from 23&Me and we did a test.
I've got the results. I'll put them below:
American-40.5%.
Swiss-20.1%.
Portuguese-20.7%.
Spanish-20.3%.
I have American, Swiss, Spanish and Portuguese ancestry. And since Swiss people are Germanic, that technically makes me German, right? Please correct me if I am wrong if anyone here is German or Swiss.
I still can't believe I have Swiss, Spanish and Portuguese ancestry...
That's all for this update.

Your ancestry is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what you're gonna get.
Forrest Gump references aside, I always wanted to try one of these, but I guess I'm just worried about what I'll find out.
Maybe one day I'll try this out.

HAHA.
I love that quote.
"Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."-Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump.
But seriously, do one of the 23&Me tests.

I will, eventually. I always wondered if I had Irish and Scottish in my blood, anyway.
As in Native American?
I did a DNA test a few years back. I don't remember which company.
The results came back:
55% British Isles-That makes sense, most of my ancestors, maternal and paternal, came from England and Scotland
15% Western Mediterranean- That makes sense as I have a few paternal ancestors who were immigrants from Spain and Italy
10% Ashkenazi Jew-That makes sense, my maternal great-great grandfather was an Ashkenazi Jew
3% Roma-That makes sense, I found out about 15 years ago on my mother's side some Roma people married into the family in the 17th century
1% Nigerian-That makes sense, I've known since I was 12 that one of my ancestors was a black house slave in the early-19th century
3% Asia Minor-That was a bit of a surprise, I don't recall reading in any genealogy or hearing in any of the family stories about someone marrying into the family who was from Turkey, Armenia, Iran, Georgia(the country, not the state) or similar places
13% Other/Unknown-Wait, what?! What exactly does that mean? Is one of my ancestors an alien from outer space?! Does that mean that Ancient Aliens is true to some extent?! Or does that mean that the Scottish stereotype is true?!
huh. might need to do that kind of test myself sometime.
When you say American, do you mean Native American? I did something similar through Ancestry and people with origins from anywhere in the western hemisphere is considered having indigenous origins. The thing is, outside of those with indigenous origins (those groups who crossed the Siberian land bridge during the last ice age), there is no such thing as "American."

No. Just American. Not Native American. My bad. I should've clarified.

That is kind of odd given that the US is made up of people who immigrated here from all over the world. I suppose Ancestry and 23 and me do things differently.
