One day, Spike and Rainbow Dash were with Tempest Shadow as she read the royal decree and accounts of the Battle of Canterlot to the citizens of Ponyville. While they were there, a teenage colt named Sandbar approached Tempest. After Sandbar pledged his new allegiance, Tempest implanted the crystal of lights deeper into Sandbar's right eye while Rainbow and Spike watched in pity. To the surprise of Rainbow and Spike, Sandbar displays bravery, earning the admiration of Tempest. After the ordeal, Rainbow and Spike assist Sandbar in sitting down to recover.
