With my quest/race to get a Rainbow S on all of Freedom Planet 2's stages, my creativity lit up like a bonfire again, and I started crafting an alternate ending of sorts for the past week.
That story is now complete, and posted in its entirety over on AO3.
I love how creepy it is when Pipp and Izzy are taken over by the necklace because it looks like they're aware of it changing them before they turn "evil".
1:45 I relate way to well to this line Over though, a pretty solid episode. The one thing I will say is that I'm really not sure if I like the implication that Misty was actually "possessed" the entire time. Feels like it might cheapen her character a tiny bit.
5731270 I don't think that's what the writers were going for because it showed the mane 5 to be pretty mindless in there brainwashing were as Misty was straight up arguing with herself about her betrayal of her friends. And even when she put the necklace back on, she choose to throw it off a cliff.
You posted this pretty early, all things considered. And I'm surprised we're still getting these this far into a writers strike. I guess they already have a few of these in the tank, or at least scripted out, and the fortnightly release schedule is helping it stay off hiatus for a little bit.
That said, I spent about half the episode thinking that Opaline and possibly even her castle were inside the locket, and Misty is physically summoning them every time she goes back. Or, you know, the simpler explanation that the locket is just imbued with very dark magic.
Could be that the locket is just drawing out what's already there, but that doesn't seem like what the episode is going for. I mean, I could totally buy that Opaline's abuse is just self-flagellation by Misty's psyche (hell, Opaline claiming that she saved Misty as a filly could've just been Misty finding the locket in the first place), but the others went so far afield from their own characters that you'd think they'd been Discorded. Or maybe the Mane 5 were overwhelmed by it during their first contact with it, while Misty has been wearing it long enough that she's gotten desensitized to it and is actually able to somewhat assert herself against its influence.
5731294 Correct me if I'm wrong, but... there's an Animation Guild and then there's the Writer's Guild of America. The later is the one on strike, the former has expressed support for the later but hasn't actually gone on strike, at least not yet. And if it did happen, it would definitely have an impact, but a). the animation industry isn't as strongly unionized as the film industry, so a large strike would be a lot harder to set up/more limited in scope, and b). animation is a relatively slow process, so things are usually planned out in advanced and it's much easier for them to keep going even if they've lost some key people. A good example of this a movie from a few years back called 'Wonderpark,' where a good chuck of the staff including the director were fired less than halfway through production, but the movie was still released in theaters on time.
Watching this halfway through I'm thinking "Here we go again, Misty is gonna come up with some half assed excuse to take the necklace back and everyone will move on like nothing happened."
Then they were by the cliff edge.
"Wait...what? No. No way. She's gonna..."
Misty destroys the necklace.
"ACTUAL PLOT DEVELOPMENT IN A TELL YOUR TALE EPISODE?!?!"
Wait... there's booty in this!?
Sweet Celestia! A plot for Chapter 4 of MYM, and wow that is a shock and amazing in this episode! Especially for Misty!
is it wrong I find Punk Pipp hotter?

You know, I have to agree here.
The 'possession' excuse instead of dealing with the very real abusive behavior of Opaline would be such a cheap cop-out.

Yeah... I'm not sure if TyT is canon or not, but either way I'm glad the necklace hasn't been used in the main series.

I also agree with this.

Does the writer's strike apply here?
Isn't this technically made in Canada?
Or am I thinking of FiM?
I was a bit lost as I haven't stayed caught up with all the episodes. Need to remedy that.

Ya ready for next week's MYM? :3
Well that was a drug trip and a half.

Well, it’s pretty much confirmed that necklace had part of opaline soul in it right?
Locket of Slytherin, anybody
