Shining and Cadance Story · 5:31pm May 29th, 2023
I've been thinking of doing a displaced story with both Shining Armor and Princess Cadance, but finding a good place for them has prevented me from advancing with the idea... until now. The current idea is to end the couple into the Souls series, as in start in Dark Souls 1, then move into 2, and finally go into 3 before they return home. Anyone have any thoughts on the idea?
I don’t know if doing another Dark Souls story would be worth it. You have done several stories in that series and I think you have tapped it out. I think you could do an interesting crossover with the Legend of Zelda with Shining Armor being Link, Cadance being Zelda, and Sombra being the main villain.

I actually agree. You already did the Dark Souls series multiple times. Not that I hate the series myself, it just feels very redundant that you keep repeating it with different characters over and over and over.
Badninja's idea for Legend of Zelda is a very good idea to try.
5730843 I mean, I've only written two stories of the Souls series, one focused on the second and one on the third... but I understand the message, that this idea wasn't a good one.
As for the Legend of Zelda, I'm not even sure which game would fit them.

I think i would read that type of story

I would think Orecenia of Time would be the best. The first 3D one hold a special place in many people’s hearts.
5730890 I have never played the Ocarina of Time, but I've heard nothing but praise for the game.
I did have one other idea for the couple, since the Dark Souls idea fell flat: maybe send them to join Luna during her adventure in Diablo 3.
What would be the context for their relationship during the series? I could easily see them initially starting split up initially, and rejoining later on. Chapters would alternate between each character's POV.
Off the top of my head, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia could fit. The game has two main characters, Alm and Cecelia. After playing a chapter with each character and their unique companions, they briefly meet before splitting up again. At that point, the player can move either party around the map at their leisure.
I'd think that Shining could join Alm early in his campaign, sometime after he joins Deliverance but before they retake Zofia castle. Meanwhile, Cadance would join up with Cecelia either right from or shortly after she leaves the Monastery to check on Mila's temple.
Of course, there's the option to just replace the whole cast with Pony expies as well, rather than using an isekai format.
There are probably other examples of stories with a split narrative.
5730944 The idea had been for them to mostly travel together throughout the three games, only splitting up when necessary or when they were forced to do so. For example, I had the idea to separate the pair for a chapter or two when it was time to start the second game, with Cadance landing in the hub town while Shining would have to deal with the tutorial section before meeting up.

Which ones have you played?
5730974 I've played four Zelda games: Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Twilight Princess, and Breath of the Wild. Of those four I've only beaten the first three.

In that case, maybe look into co-op games for inspiration. It Takes Two is the first one that comes to mind, although there are plenty of others.
Otherwise, games that use partners as a main theme would also be good. The World Ends With You would be a perfect partner story for them. At one point I toyed with the idea of doing an EqG version of the game's story, but didn't get that far into it.
5731065 I will consider the idea. I'll be honest, I didn't play a lot of co-op games, save for the Dynasty Warriors games, the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games, and the Champions of Norrath games, but I'll look into potential ideas for the royal couple.

5730944 So, I've been considering ideas on where to send the royal couple, and recently had the idea to send them into the Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes game. Instead of them joining an existing faction or group, however, the idea is for them to try and unify the land while also having to deal with Sombra's possessed pawns, as the King of Shadows could be displaced along with Shining and Cadance.

Love the idea

That could be interesting.
