: Unnecessary.

Greetings, everyone! This is Mr. J back with my final review for “The Owl House”! Today, I will be reviewing the series finale entitled: “Watching and Dreaming”! I gotta admit that it was a really fun ride watching this series; everything that happened previously all led up to this point—the mark where it all comes to an end…a shortened end, no less. This season could have been a full-length third season filled with fantastic episodes, decent episodes, bad episodes, solid character growth, actual chemistry between Hunter and Willow, a beach episode, arcs centered in the human realm, an episode centered on Philip and Caleb, human antagonists, and more world-building. Alas, Disney took that all away…because they’re stupid. Nonetheless, I will simply take what was given to us and discuss what I thought of this finale overall.

This was a very solid finale, in my opinion. I liked how they particularly focused on Luz, King, and Eda’s final phase of their character arcs as the fate of the Boiling Isles depends on them and as they make their final stand against Belos. I was really impressed with how they carefully paced this finale since there had to be quite a lot of loose ends to tie up…well, almost all of them anyway.

What l liked the most about this finale was how it reinforced the idea of weirdos sticking together in the midst of tribulation. Luz went through so many trials at such a young age; she wanted to be understood for who she is, accepted for who she is, and appreciated for who she is. She was so happy and optimistic about everything until it all crashed down on her after realizing she unknowingly helped Belos nearly destroy the Boiling Isles. Nonetheless, she continued to keep fighting for her new friends and family…by turning on the light.

Eda has always been quite the wise-cracking madwoman despite her parental issues and having a complicated sibling relationship with Lilith. Although her curse did a number on her, that didn’t stop her from teaching Luz with everything she needed to learn about magic while being a great mother figure to her.

King went through a lot of shit too. He went from being a self-absorbed, self-proclaimed tyrant overlord to being a humble, conscientious little Titan who longed to have a loving family. It was so cute and amazing to watch King interact with Luz throughout the show until they saw each other as brother and sister. Great character writing!

The finale has great action scenes and dialogue for the most part. But I still couldn’t stand the Collector getting all the sympathy. Even worse, he inevitably got a redemption…mostly due to the fact that he finally realized the impact death had on mortals when he saw Luz seemingly die before their eyes. That, in itself, completely contradicts what was already established in season 2B.

Remember in the episode “Hollow Mind” where there was a flashback of the Collector talking with Belos in the throne room? He impatiently asked Belos if they can start the draining spell already before he proceeded to literally mimic the cries of the witches dying from the spell. He even sadistically laughed when he pointed out that Belos enjoyed destroying the grim walkers!

Hell, in “King’s Tide”, the Collector agreed to stop the draining spell only because King told him they needed everyone alive to play the Owl House game! He clearly understands death and how it can affect mortals! HIS REDEMPTION ARC MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE AT ALL!!

And now, look, Luz’s “death” was honestly predictable and almost copies the exact same scenario that happened in the series finale in “Amphibia”: the protagonist dies, gets motivated by the speech of an ancestor/a god, comes back, and everything is all good. Only this time, Luz returns to the land of the living in her Titan form. I admit it was a pretty badass design, but that whole conversation between her and the Titan was kinda cliche although I didn’t expect him to be that…casual. Still, it was alright.

For Belos, however, his possession powers are incredibly inconsistent, as I said before. We can clearly see here that he can regrow and regenerate into different sizes, so why did he need Hunter in the first place? Plus, after he gets defeated, he returns to his younger human self to deceive Luz for one last time. How is that even possible?

He needed a new body last episode, but he can actually turn into his human self again? WHAT WAS EVEN THE POINT?! Why did he try to use the last grimwalker in his old lair if he could reshape his own human skin?

You know what he could have done? Possess the Collector. They were at his mercy the more they talked with him (in Raine’s puppet form). Instead of possessing the Titan’s heart inside the castle which would result in being completely grounded—can’t go anywhere else—where anyone can just rip him out of the heart, he could have taken the Collector and use his god-like powers to destroy the witches in the exact same fashion. Oh, wait, that would make him weak against King because a Titan’s magic can cancel out the Collector’s power. Hmm, that’s probably why he didn’t possess him.

Nevertheless, my point still stands.

And his death scene could have been so much better. They NEEDED to bring Caleb’s ghost during Philip’s final moments as the latter sees his karma coming up to him. Not just Caleb but also all the past grimwalkers. After he gets stomped to death, he finds himself in the in-between realm where he sees Caleb’s spirit staring him down. Then he gets dragged by the grimwalkers as he pleads for mercy. With Caleb saying no word to him, Philip is dragged to the abyss…never more to exist. That would have been poetic, in my opinion. Such a missed opportunity!

So yeah, despite its flaws, it still ended in a satisfying note with all the characters getting a happy ending after everything they’ve been through. The Boiling Isles are saved, the families are reunited, Luz, Eda, and King are also reunited at last, Lumity stays strong, Papa Titan is proud of King, and Belos’s reign of terror is no more.

The end credits scene was entirely flawless! We finally got to see how Luz grew up and can gain access to both worlds, unlike how Amphibia ended. She goes to college in the Boiling Isles, her friends are nearly grown up and are following their own passion and dreams, Huntlow and Raeda respectively remain stedfast, and they all celebrate Luz’s 18th birthday. This is such a satisfying ending for a fantastic animated series!

This finale gets a : Pretty good., honestly. I really like it despite how flawed it is.

So that concludes “The Owl House”. I’ll never forget how Disney unjustly treated this show, but I will always remember that if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t have this at all. Nickelodeon would’ve axed it right after season 1, and Cartoon Network would have done it dirty by either cancelling it or watering it down in some way. But yeah, this show is pretty awesome to watch, and I consider myself honored to have made episode reviews for the show. I give this show a solid B+!

I hope you all enjoyed my Owl House reviews, and thanks for sticking with me every step of the way.

If they do make a sequel, I wonder if it’ll be a Cosmic Frontiers sci-fi come to life for Luz and Amity’s kids (who will definitely be named Azura and Manny) since it might focus on the cosmic beings the Archivists and the Grand Huntsman (the Collector’s much worser older siblings)? I also wonder if they’ll dive into the things that The Owl House didn’t explore enough of?

Lumity stays strong,

Exactly the same type of words for me as well Mr. J when I knew that Lumity was gonna stay strong to the very end. ^^

Say... while I'm still here... heh... shall I share a bit of an interesting story I was able to see the series finale, aka on the night it first aired? :3

Alrighty =3

In the days leading up to the final episode of The Owl House, I made sure to let my dad know and convinced him that I wanted to watch the finale on the Big TV in the living room at my place.

The reasons why were as followed:

1. I only use the small TV in my room for primary YouTube watching.

2. Because the streaming services on it, most notably Hulu being the most used, can be a laggy mess on my small TV, I didn't want to miss out on very important and crucial scenes in the Finale.

And thankfully... he allowed me to watch the final episode of The Owl House while he did his stuff on his computer. :)

And man oh man.... not only was it worth it in seeing the first airing of the final episode of The Owl House on the TV I wanted to watch it on, but I was one of the lucky few to watch the special airing that Disney Channel did for it... that being.... NO COMMERCIAL BREAKS WHATSOEVER!!! :D :D :D :yay: :yay: :yay:
