Changeling Theory - Straw Poll · 6:38pm Mar 20th, 2023
I've been working on my mental health a lot lately, and have gotten to where I feel a little more comfortable writing again. There's one small issue, though: Changeling Theory hasn't been updated in months!
I'm hard at work on the next chapter with a solid fourteen pages written. I'm having to move very slow with it because it's setting up for lots of action, but I have enough content written to make up a full chapter. HOWEVER, the original plan was that it would be a single, long chapter with a heavy focus on build-up.
This is where the choice is yours. Should I release what I have written now so that more content is being put out, or are you fine with waiting longer for a much bigger chapter with lots of build-up and more intense action?
Haven't read the story, but it's in my Watch Later. (Probably should spend some time to read another story to heat the iron, as it were)
Longer chapters can sometimes drag on, and depending on the build-up, it could slow the pacing to a crawl. Splitting chapters into parts can sometimes work out if it's an extended singular event, or you could make it one extravaganza of a chapter from start to finish. I've seen both styles work well: One chapter of build-up, one chapter of nonstop action. Or simply one long chapter that ends in the action sequence.
It again depends on how much of each there is. If there's a lot of setup and a far shorter amount of action, maybe keeping it as one long chapter is preferable. If they are about equal in length, splitting them could be worthwhile. Give the readers the book before the sword.
Really depends on your preference and the content of the chapter(s).
