The comic's explanation of G5.... · 2:31am Mar 13th, 2023
... manages to make Discord even more of a villain than the Season 9 finale, utterly makes Twilight WORST PRINCESS OF ALL TIME, and completely breaks all world-building. The ponies become racist AGAIN, this time from just some random rude unicorn who basically bumps into somebody. It was stupid when it happened with Chrysalis, but THIS time it's even STUPIDER!!
And STILL no mention of where the dragons, griffons, changelings, minotaurs, hippogriffs, yaks, Diamond Dogs, cats and absolutely everything else went.
My god, you can't even FATHOM how awful the storytelling is.
And they just rip off fanart of 'old' Discord's design. I have some pics saved of fanart from 7 years ago that looks IDENTICAL to that design, right down to the broken off horn.
Oh, and despite everything he's done, Discord gets instantly forgiven AGAIN.
To be fair, it's possible they just straight-up hired that fanartist. (It's worth repeating that G4 started out as fanfiction Lauren Faust suggested because Hasbro wouldn't let her do the show she actually wanted to make)
Yeah, I saw that comic as well and that's when I gave up on G5. They just let the stupid stick fly everywhere. I'm not asking for Oscar-winning writing, just consistent, properly thought out writing.
5717966 It's not hard to write at least a consistent story when you're THINKING about what you're writing.
But, most of these people make all their decision based upon emotion alone, and therefore logic becomes impossible

Well, let's face it: once Faust left any idea of a cohesive narrative went out the window. Having a different person in charge of every episode (or at least the writing) means that lessons learned by characters in previous episodes have to be learned all over again (looks at Fluttershy). Only reason I kept watching after season 5 was just to see how long things would go.
5717985 Season 7 had some of the worst written episodes, but also gave us several episodes which showed how easy it was to develop the world and characters with just a little analysis.
"Perfect Pear" did so well wrapping up the story behind AJ's parents, developing the entire family history. It was the most purely dramatic story in the entire show, and deserved its highest rating of the entire show.
"Discordant Harmony" finally developed exactly what Discord really is: an aspect entity, a true avatar of chaos who cannot exist without his attribute. This set a foundation which COULD have led to some very interesting things in the final seasons, where Discord is increasingly forced to side with orderly forces to protect his friends, at great risk to himself. But no one was clever enough to do anything with that.
"A Health of Information" gave us a truly horrifying magical parasite, which was CLEARLY shown to have wiped out entire villages of ponies! But it was kept just subtle enough to slip past little kids who might not be able to take the weight of how terrible a thing it was. AND it also incorporated the story of one of the Pillars naturally into the narrative.
Oh, but there was also "Secrets and Pies", which revealed that Dash hates all pies... and so, you see, I HAD to whack her over the head and throw her to the Quarry Eels! I mean, seriously! What sort of MONSTER hates PIE?!!! She had to die.

True, there are SOME gems, like Gauntlet of Fire, but overall I just feel later seasons were very much lacking.

It's also Pi Day, so go have some pie
