No, not Marco’s spear thanks to the fertility-potion-spiked cider poisoning. I mean the latest chapter of Continuation and Chronicles.
Even after working on it most of the weekend, it’s now well over 17.4k words long and still growing. Normally I would break it up when it gets that big, and I may still. But for now, we’re going to see how long this gets. Assuming I decide not to split it, it’s possible you’re going to end up with a chapter well over 20k words when all is said and done.
As for why it’s getting to be so long, it’s just that there’s an awful lot I’m trying to do with this. Yes, there’s the clop, but there’s also a ton of worldbuilding and character introductions I want to include. With regards to the latter, expect a bit of an info dump regarding the Changelings as you learn something about their societal structure, military service branches (which readers of Firefly should recognize), an evolved form that even regular Changeling drones can gain with enough love (and no, I’m not talking about the pastel-hued hippies we eventually saw in the show), and even get to witness some of their abilities (both sensual and not) up close and personal.
And of course, that’s to say nothing of the confrontation between Gilda and Tribune Cipio, which will have a surprising M-rated ending (no, I am not going to make the two have sex—it doesn’t involve Gilda except as an observer.) So what’s that about? Let’s just say that you really don’t want to offend the Queen when she already knows you quite well and decides to make a point.
Like I said, it’s possible at this point that I’m still going to break it up, but I haven’t decided on that yet. If I do, the second scene will probably be shunted to the following chapter, but I’m still inclined to keep it here. That way, it’s just one M-rated chapter to worry about and make a separate T-rated version of, not two. In any event, you can definitely expect a battle in this coming chapter, but it’s going to be one of wits rather than arms.
A teaser? Eventually, but I’ll ask for a couple additional days on that to get this thing more finished and smoothed out. Look for one around midweek. I’ll aim for a weekend release of the new chapter, and after that? It’s Eros time.

- Proofreading is easyer in my opinion that way
- Why a teaser if you can give us a 5000-7000 word chapters?
- I make mine around 2000-3000-4000 ish big...
- I have completed chapters ready for publication, yet it is in my humble opinion that you should keep something back to not stress yourself out.
