And this is about the OC changeling Scrappy. He was originally a mostly one off unnamed changeling meant to show that even the dumbest and "cutest" changeling could be fiercly loyal to Chrysalis, to add more depth to her predicament while in Discord's home.
However, the character became fairly popular on the 4chan threads and was asked time and time again to be given more depth, and even a name (Scrappy wasn't my choice). And so, he became a pretty prominent character as Ocellus and Thorax hadn't existed yet.
While most of Scrappy's written actions were determined by myself, his level of appearance was mitigated by reader interest. (Which, now that I think about it, is very close to how Scooby's Scrappy was). And while I retconned the alt. Anon stuff, I did keep the chess thing written by the crossover author Elo, simply because I thought it was fucking funny.
But I never did ask, how does the readers of FiMfiction feel about him? Answers won't affect the story now as we have reached the "season ender". But I am curious on others opinions
Thinking about it, I think Scrappy was a good character. He had his own character arc where he was constantly trying to rationalize how he could maintain conflicting loyalties without being a traitor to either. For a character that is comparatively simple in wants and actions that’s a very deep internal conflict. I would say that Scrappy never really reformed, like the majority of changelings, but much like Chrysalis was simply blown gently upwards. I can’t really think of any real difference between ‘old’ scrappy and ‘current’ scrappy beyond a love for chess.
I'm reading this story longer than it has been uploaded on this side and must say that Scrappy is a pretty solid character. He was refreshing, and even though he sometimes comes off as silly, or even dump as some people might say, he is probably a pillar for Chrysalis' sanity. If we think about how her whole hive abandoned her, all her children turned their back against her: but there is still one left. Maybe it's not just Anon who reformed her, maybe there is some part of Scrappy that made her think that even if there is just one creature believing in her. That it's worth it not pursuing this evil path that she would've gone through in the original timeline. Makes me wonder how much of the future timeline written for the first book is still valid, since a lot more happened since then. But that's the multiverse, I guess.

considering around the time book 1 was originally written (started midseason 5) i was surprised how much i even managed to get to work, as a lot of what i wrote ended up coinciding with the show as it went on. the only real big botch i can think of is in book 2 with Garble, which i was able to make work. Also, considering Chrysalis's sanity in the show, and how badly she was affected losing her hive, I had actually hoped she would have found someone that would have saved her. but nope, stone statue, stone statue for all.
