A potential wasted Rich opportunity for a legend... · 12:06am Jan 19th, 2023
So... I'm not sure if I am on some sort of rolll regarding the Equestria Girls side of my AU, or if this is just a natural consequence of having recently made a post about the Friendship Games version of my AU once I get around to it... but thing is, today I ended up thinking about Legend of Everfree and how it would take place in my AU... and while it's relatively issue-free in my opinion, perhaps it would merit a deeper look than I intended to give it at first.
I will admit, Legend of Everfree isn't something that I was looking to adapt into its own stand-alone fic. I'm not retconning it out of my AU, but I never planned to adapt it as more than a chapter in Chapters of a Revamped Tome to acknowledge the timeline differences. Neither of the two major issues (or at least, two of the major issues) that seem to divide people in this movie are something that I take much of an issue with. I may like Flash Sentry (pony and human alike) better than Timber Spruce, but I don't ming SciTimber as a ship that much, though I do understand and even agree with the issue of the 'unequal dynamic', with her being a camper and him a counselor, even if they are the same age or close to it. And I can see why human Filthy Rich could be so much nastier than the pony one - apparently without a closer association with Granny Smith to rein him in and with the fact the human world seems to be less inclined to friendship (for all the issues that Equestria does have), I think he could believably devolve into callous ruthlessness, if he was ever as nice to begin with.
That said... on the latter issue in particular... I couldn't help but think there was a bit of a wasted opportunity, for one reason. We know from the first Equestria Girls movies that Diamond Tiara goes to Canterlot High, and she's presumably Filthy Rich's daughter in the human world too... and while Camp Everfree doesn't look like her thing (although it's hard to say considering that human Diamond Tiara never got much characterization)... part of me couldn't help but wonder if that isn't worthy of exploration.
I'm not sure if Hasbro ever considered it, but given they wrote pony Diamond Tiara out besides cameos because they felt her story was done, they probably didn't think the human one deserved much attention either if they did consider her.
What does this mean exactly for when I get there? Well... I'm not entirely sure yet, but it means enough that I most likely will adapt Legend of Everfree as a full length fic with this angle addressed somehow (possibly after some earlier fleshing out of human Diamond Tiara so it comes less out of nowhere).

And well... depending on how nasty your take on human Filthy Rich turns out to be, I'll hold back my final opinion for the time being... but going by his movie self, he does seem the sort who might have done with a bit more karma, though maybe not necessarily an exact retribution of what he wanted to do to Timber and Gloriosa.
