Peter Jackson's King Kong · 9:48pm Dec 22nd, 2022
Finished watching the 3-hour extended cut of Peter Jackson's King Kong, after years of it being in an odd position of both being very influential on my childhood, but also being absent from it for lack of a full viewing until now. I remember years ago when I got the World of Kong bestiary book and just immersing myself in the beautiful nightmare world of Skull Island over and over until half the pages have since come loose from the binding. And now here I am years later, finally finishing the actual movie itself.
It's...very rare that I find a candidate for something as concrete as "Favorite Movie", but...this one comes close. Very VERY close. Just...everything, the story, the action, the characters and the way they use the 1930's Great Depression era the original was made in to set them up, how Kong and Ann's dynamic grows over the course of the movie...it's beautiful and terrifying and thrilling and pretty much the kind of stuff I live for.
9/10
