Why you should respect your characters

    Hey guys, DarkShockBro here.

    *WARNING!*

Just a fair warning, this journal MAY be controversial. Plus, it's pretty personal. I want you to go into this with as open of a mind as you can, please. Also, I will be referencing none of my stories or any other stories, as I feel like that would defeat the purpose of a journal that I want to be universal. OK? Thank you.

How to show respect for your characters: Part 2

    *WARNING: RANT AHEAD*

Hey guys, DarkShockBro here. You know, I was hoping that the criteria I detailed in the first part of how to show respect for your characters would be followed more often than not. Sadly, in my recent Total Drama and Suvivor binge (including Fan Fics), I have found that is anything but the case, primarily in antagonists.

How to show respect for your characters

    Hey guys, DarkShockBro here.

Being a creative writer myself, I tend to read a lot of fan fiction and watch a lot of cartoons. During this time, I tend to pick up on certain characteristics common to every work of literature. Some of these traits are good, others not so much.

    It's been a while...

    Hey guys, DarkShockBro here.

I'm sorry I haven't been visiting this site in a good long while, but I'm back with lots of news!

First and foremost, the first arc of the collaboration between me and Shadoroq is DONE. We've been working hard to make this story a special experience, and I think you'll enjoy our contrasting styles.

Hey, everypony.

First off, I don't mean to sound whiny or anything when I say this, so if I'm coming off that way, I apologize.

Now, let's get back to the topic: likes and dislikes. I'm sure everyone on this site does their best to make fiction that they and other people enjoy. And, to me, one of the best indications that people like my story is through the like to dislike ratio, because I take likes and dislikes very seriously. I get elevated whenever another like is added to my story, and I get rather sad whenever another dislike is added. Now, if there was some legitimate critique going along with these dislikes, I'd be fine with it. However, out of the six people who disliked my story, only one commented on it; a user named EternallyLost. In response to this critique/dislike, I gave him a watch, and he's actually made some good stuff: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/30612/a-tempest-comes-to-ponyville

But, I digress. The thing is, if someone dislikes my story, I feel it only fitting to explain why they disliked it, so that I can improve it. That way, the person in question may indeed like my story, and I can improve the quality of my story.

I leave future readers of my story with this. Don't be afraid to give me hell. I can take it, so long as there's an explained reason for it. Besides, I want to get A Diamond in the Rough to EQD. So, the more critique on my story, especially with the grammar, the better.

Well, that's it. Have a nice day.

true if you dislike something then you should say the reason :yay::yay:

I feel the exact same way. A dislike without an explanation is essentially graffiti on your story. You can't even tell if they actually read the story in the first place before making the decision. :applejackunsure:
