    Return to Writing

Writing in some sense is a very therapeutic experience for me; everything I write always has a little piece of me in it, no matter how detached it is from reality. I love the world-building and characters in MLP, and being able to give my own spin on it is always a unique experience for me. A Pastry Chef's War was in some sense

This is just some random rant of some points that I've been mulling over on the past few days, and since its related to fandom in headcanon in many ways, I decided to stick it here as my own little outlet.

LGBTQIA+ pony discourse is something that I feel was criminally underrepresented over the course of the show. I don't think it was the fault of writers or showrunners, if anything I felt like there was a lot of effort there to to add that level of diversity which was ultimately squashed by the hetwashing of corporate. It's the unfortunate truth that it is only very recently many shows have had the freedom to express queer relationships and identity in a positive light (Disney being a very famous example of complete LGBTQIA+ suppression) and I'm thankful to have seen the finale of G4 portraying Applejack and Rainbow Dash in a lesbian relationship, even if it wasn't stated by name.

Where the show could not pick up, I think fandom has been an absolutely vital tool in being able to use these characters without the fear of some benign censorship breathing down the neck of the author. Whether it's audio dramas, fanfiction, abridged series, animations, or any other form of creative media, it's always been the fandom that's been unafraid to give that representation that the show couldn't.

Delving deep into pony content, the wide variety of content portraying disabilities, queer dynamics, heartbreak, tragedy, and a whole host of other content I wish was explored more heavily in the show; having this available, with the characters I held so dearly was always a constant reassurance to me. It really reminded me now how important having that available in any community was, and importantly it gave me the confidence to start working on fandom content of my own.

For this reason, I will love my little gay horses until the day I die.
