Progress Report VI: Hiatus · 2:22pm Nov 7th, 2022
Hey everyone!
So I'd be lying if I said I didn't see this coming. I wanted to think all I needed was a week or so off, but I've given it a lot of thought, and I think it's best I take a little hiatus. There are several reasons for this. The health issues I was having a week ago are not as solved as I previously thought and while they're still nothing too serious they still need to be dealt with, and that's putting a damper on my output.
However, the biggest reason is because my creative energy is being pulled elsewhere. I don't necessarily like to talk about what I do outside of this website, but writing is far from the only creative outlet I engage in. I'm an artist, video editor, and I'm a musician more than any of those. Since September, writing has been my primary outlet, but my brain seems to think my energy should be spent elsewhere for some time. Due to the sheer volume of words I've written in the last third of this year, I'm inclined to agree.
I don't plan to make this hiatus last any longer than a couple months give or take, but as always I don't want to give a specific time frame. Above all else, I just want to make it clear I'm not disappearing forever and leaving my story unfinished. I still have lots of ideas for it, and beyond that I have plenty of ideas for other stories I want to write. It's just that, since late July, I have pumped out somewhere in the range of 200k-300k (EDIT: I decided to count just how much and even while omitting quite a bit it's well over 200k lol) words of stories – most of which has not seen the light of day and likely never will. So if I want to keep myself from burning out, I need to take time away – let the things I've learned from this bout of writing sink into my brain. That way, when I come back, I'll be even better at it and I'll have all new ideas too!
As I've teased in the previous entry, I do have other fics that are in a semi-finished state. No guarantees, but I may or may not post one of those during my hiatus as a one off. Unlikely, but there's hope.
Thanks for reading, thanks for understanding, and hopefully I'll see you not long after the turn of the year.
As always, take all the time ya need, n plz feel better soon
Hope you take good care of yourself, which includes taking care of your other creative endeavors!
