Signal Boost and a bonus! · 11:45pm Nov 1st, 2022

Posting this a day late . . . why should Halloween only be one day, huh? Who doesn't love ponies in costumes?

I present to you a new Not-A-Contest submission:

ECostume Contest
Another year has passed, and Halloween has rolled around once more. Last year I took ponies to a trunk-or-treat. This year I'm hosting a costume contest.
AlwaysDressesInStyle · 8.3k words · 363 views

Now, it's not quite in the Not-A-Contest; it doesn't have working ponies in it—figured it counts, 'cause it's very much in the spirit of the contest, and those are the very same ponies in several other Not-A-Contest stories by AlwaysDressesInStyle. They're just having a Halloween party, you see.

It's got a bunch of cute ponies in costumes, it's got Minty, and it's even got an obligatory batpony.

Source

It's also got a surprise twist in it. One of them, anyway . . . you'll understand when you get there. And did I mention it's holiday-themed? 'Cause it is!

In other news, in case I forgot to mention this in a previous blog (I think I did, but I might not have), I'll be headed to Ciderfest this weekend. I'll only get there late on Friday, then be there for all of Saturday and most all of Sunday.

Hope to see you there!

"In other news, in case I forgot to mention this in a previous blog (I think I did, but I might not have), I'll be headed to Ciderfest this weekend."
I'm behind on blog posts and have been distracted enough that I don't know, sorry.
Yay, though!

"Hope to see you there!"
I don't know if we'll see each other, but I've heard that, given it's a smaller con, that sort of thing is more likely -- and as that suggests, I do indeed expect to be there, and actually just put up a blog post about it, despite a last-minute bit of illness I'm recovering from, if not yet fully, basically just in time to still take the trip.

(Seriously, though, whew. This illness has been bad enough on its own; if I'd caught it just a few days later (and progressed through it at the same rate), at best I'd be having to try and reschedule travel and such, and I might well have missed the con entirely, by just a few days, after so many months of anticipation and planning and such. Fortunately, as it is, today I'm feeling well enough that I think I could leave today if I had to, I'm feeling better today than yesterday, and I'll hopefully be feeling better tomorrow, when my first travel reservation starts, than I am today. Then hopefully better Thursday, and better yet Friday for the actual start of the con.)

I love that first picture so much.

What is ciderfeast

You just know every year Luna went to the Pink One and got a new costume. She now has the whole set including the special edition Starlight Glimmer.

Celestia is really creeped out by Lunas closet.

Next year she's a Hell's Horses Elemental.:rainbowlaugh:

5695934
I have a Luna inspired Balius because of course I do

5695979
Too bad Iron Will only qualifies as a ProtoMech.

5695993
Well you could use the Buraq to do ponys. Then Iron Will the Minotaur works out.

You can find me if you want to; I'm tall and I'll be wearing a top hat (with ears) and an Admiral Biscuit shirt. And it is a smallish con, so there's a good chance of us running into each other.

Yeah, that sucks. Getting the con crud out of the way before the con, huh?

It's a great one. I think I have a print of it somewhere.

5695829
It's a MLP convention in Milwaukee, WI that's happening this weekend!

Why the pink one has them is probably a good question to ask, but maybe you're better off not knowing the answer.

Celestia is really creeped out by Lunas closet.

Heh, I don't doubt it. Can you imagine how terrifying that would be?

Although . . . what does Pinkie Pie's closet look like? I have to think maybe even Discord doesn't want to know.

5696032
Why? Costume emergency of course!

And Pinkies Closet? Organized Chaos. Discord wishes for the Chaos that Pinkie gas in store. Except for the Organized bit.

Why? Costume emergency of course!

That is true. Or when she needs to disguise herself as another pony for whatever reason.

Organized, but in a way that only Pinkie Pie can understand.

...You may be overestimating my abilities there, but thanks. I don't think I've spotted you yet, at least?

"And it is a smallish con, so there's a good chance of us running into each other."
A better one than at a smaller con, at least! Though the hotel interior does have quite a few twists and turns, and people do venture outside the con hotel as well.

"Yeah, that sucks. Getting the con crud out of the way before the con, huh?"
Ugh, I hope so. At the very least, I should be good against anything sufficiently close to that virus. I really hope I don't get sick right after the con when I'm still dealing with the tail end of this one's symptoms during the con.

No worries, I just got here recently. I'll need around on Saturday, gonna check out the vendor hall first thing tomorrow.

5696379
Thanks. :)

Oh! I feel rather silly for not thinking of this earlier: are you planning to be at the authors and fans meetup thing Saturday? I was already planning on going to at least see who was there, and it seems like a logical place to find you.

5696387
Yes, I will be at the authors meet and greet thing today

5696419
Ah, lovely! Well, that simplifies that, then. :)

Trunk-Or-Treat is a terrible development:

The point of Halloween is that it is the only time children can go to the homes on strangers unattended, but is is safe because gzillions of eyes are on the street. Unfortunately, fearmongers ruined it with their lies about poisoned candy —— ¡no child has died from the candy of strangers! —— and fears about abducting children (the last time that happened was in the 1970s).

Trunk-Or-Treats do not have the fun of running around unattended at night and are also far too often exclusionary:

Many church run Trunk-Or-Treats. They often limit the Trunk-Or-Treats to members-only.

Belated thank you for the signal boost! :pinkiehappy:

Nice!
Also, I just noticed that you posted this blog on your tenth anniversary on this site, so do you have any thoughts or am I too straightforward about it?:twilightsheepish:

Trunk-Or-Treat is a terrible development:

I disagree.

Where I live, for example, any children who wished to come to my house for treats would have to walk along the shoulder of a state highway posted for 55 mph (and on which most traffic drives at 60 mph or more), and if they wished to go to houses on both sides of the road, they'd have to cross where there are no crosswalks or street lights . . . or else walk several miles to the nearest signaled intersection and cross over there.

If I wanted to offer treats, I'd have to depend on those foolhardy children to show up at my house. Based on the fact that my porch light is almost always on, and that I am almost always home on Halloween eve, and the fact that there has not once been a trick-or-treater at my house, I can assume that no children (or their parents) are dumb enough to go trick-or-treating alongside a state highway.

For them--or any other children who live in the country--trunk or treating seems like a safer alternative, and perhaps a better community alternative than driving to the nearest decent-sized town and doing the traditional trick-or-treat walk. While I do have a town near me, a nearby township has a population of 1200 and there are no villages in it. Not even a subdivision, but there is a township hall with a parking lot which could serve for trunk-or-treat.

I'll be honest, I was gonna do a blog about it and maybe a story in celebration, and then I got busy with a bunch of other stuff and forgot what day it actually was.

Par for the course, really; I'm behind on several story updates and blog posts (I've got three cons I attended this year I still haven't written a blog post about). Sooner or later I'll blog about it, I guess.
