Well, folks... work is finally easing, and if all goes well, you’re going to see two chapters from me in the next two days. Firefly is nearly ready except for the songs and graphics, which I’m still working on, but I’ll share the base map of Harness Hill here:
Hey, folks. Just a quick note (okay, not-so-quick) to let everyone know that the next chapter of Midnight Rising launches this evening, following one more editing pass. Prereader response is generally good so far, though I’m still waiting on two at this point. And I’m already 8000 words into my next writing assignment, which is a new chapter of Feathered Hearts - Continuation and Chronicles.
I’m forced to break one chapter into two, because it got too big. The next Feathered Hearts chapter was already well over 17k words and probably on its way to 20k, which is a lot more than I typically allow in a single entry. It also had a natural breakpoint mid-chapter, so I elected to make use of it. This means you will be getting not one, but two new Feathered Hearts chapters in short order, each around 10.5k words each.
Though after the intense writing effort I put into the latest entry of Eros—I put a ton of work in on it, so if you read it, please comment, folks! —I’ll probably wait a day or two before starting the new chapter of Nightmare Night to try to recharge mentally.
It’s with prereaders now, delayed by my workload, which has resulted in nearly 40 extra hours worked over the past two and a half weeks--and I damn well better get some comp time for that! Unfortunately, even when prereaders finish with the new chapter, it’s not ready yet--I still have to make some graphics and do song selections for it, which will take some time. So I ask your indulgence for a little longer. It may be a week, or it may be less, but the new chapter release is coming.
And I thank my prereaders profusely, including most especially AJ_Aficionado, for pointing out a couple glaring issues I had to address. As I have now done so, and the chapter has received a resounding stamp of approval from AJA and others, I’m going to launch it tonight instead of tomorrow. Happy Halloween, folks! 🎃 Hopefully this will be both a trick and a treat.
I announce this study ahead of time and its protocol so that nopony can claim that I manipulate P-Values. A little context:
I am vocal that Abrams care nothing about continuity. Just look at what he did to Star Trek; he made Stino (Star-Trek-In-Name-Only). I was vocal about not wanting to see Swino (Star-Wars-In-Name-Only). Several ponies pointed out that I should not bash a movie without seeing it. Since they have a point, I shall see it.
I normally announce new stories with a good old fashioned blog post, and I neglected to this time. No longer. We must maintain the traditions of old.
For all of those who missed the debut... Behold!
The Heart's Promise
The age of ponies is over.
Hey, so new story coming out This Friday
The next installment in the Friends With Benefits continuity
And this one picks back up the RariTwi plot thread with some things I set up in Friends
If you haven't read Friends or aren't aware of the Friends With Benefits continuity
Check it out starting with Lipstick
And get caught up for its continuation in Benefits
As I put the final touches on the Harmonic Resonance epilogue—it will launch tonight, and if you’d like to see what the resulting personality might look like if Twilight and Midnight Sparkle merged, check out the opening section—it’s time to turn our attention to Autumn, to Halloween... and at long last, back to my long-languishing Unleash the Magic stories.
Well, that was a good and productive October, folks. I did everything I said I would, coming out with two new chapters of Feathered Hearts - Continuation and Chronicles, two of Midnight Rising, and one of Nightmare Night. So I’m going to try to keep the momentum going into November.
To make a long story short: Five updated chapters (10-14) are now in prereads, and given the amount of text involved, I’ve given my prereaders a full week to work on them. A sixth updated chapter is nearly done (22: Know Thy Ally) and a seventh is planned (25: Battle of Bale, Part 1) by the time we’re ready to go.
300 likes! Everybody can pick up their helms, red capes, spears, copper shields, and chest wax, as we’ll be marching to the Hot Gates to face down the Persian Army shortly.
It's now with prereaders with the working title of Agni Kai, for its Avatar - The Last Airbender-inspired firebending battle—though that's far from the only thing it references. It's currently coming in at just shy of 16k words, meaning it'll probably be over 17k by the time I'm through with editing passes and all the additional detail I usually add.
Thanks to all who read and a warm welcome to those who came aboard! Please comment, folks, as I’ve seen only one so far on the new Feathered Hearts chapter as of this blog post.
Thanks to what I think is severe tendonitis in my elbow due to excessive weightlifting, for which I’m seeing an orthopedist. Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop me from typing, so my writing continues. As promised previously, I’ll be moving right along into the final ascension chapter of Harmonic Resonance involving the human Twilight, which I plan to finish within a week. In fact, I want to finish off the entire story, including the concluding post-ascension chapter, by
And it would be a lie to say I don't feel some anxiety over it. Still some work to do, from writing the Author's Notes to the introductory blog. It's been a six-week journey coming to an end tomorrow... or maybe it's only beginning. How, I can't help but wonder, will it be received? You just never know. It might be a huge hit--you don't see much griffon/human action on site, so this could certainly be filling a neglected niche--or it could end up flopping and doing damage to the main story in
But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around, definitely, but they're not everywhere, and the noise is basically a low hum instead of a constant,
I’m waiting a couple more days to give the rest of my prereaders more chance to hit it. Be warned that I did decide to break up the chapter again, so you’ll essentially be getting part 1 of Queen Moly vs Dragon Lord Vesuvius with a lot of additional commentary—and a major revelation or two—from the Humane 6 peanut gallery as Sunset continues to tell the tale.
