Crate Digger Profile

"And, that concludes the Vinyl Scratch for today! At the top of the hour, will be the Aloe and Lotus Beauty Hour, so stay tuned to K-COLT, the voice of Ponyville!"

Octavia dutifully hit the button for the K-COLT jingle, and the "ON AIR" light winked out. The breath that Octavia that she didn't realize she was holding was exhaled as she glared at her partner across the table. "Did you really have to make fun of Princess Luna?" she asked archly.

The blue maned unicorn pony looked over her shades with a smirk on her face. "Oh, come on, I'm an equal opportunity kidder! Besides, I haven't been banished to sun yet, have I?"

Octavia, though she should have been used to her friend's cavalier attitude by now, still shook her dark grey maned head and sighed. "Look, I've got a recital coming up, so I need to get some practice. I'll catch–" She was about to adjust her bow tie and head out the door, when there was a knock on the door.

"Mail call!" a high pitched voice called out.

Vinyl Scratch leaned over and called into an open door. "Hey, Digger, package for you!"

A voice called back "I'm coming, I'm coming..." A male earth pony cantered in, his mane covered in dust. He was a rather plain looking pony, with medium gray coat (darker than Octavia's), and a darker gray mane and tail, with only a splash of cream on his hooves and muzzle. About the only thing was really remarkable was the elaborate cutie mark on his flank of a gramophone. He shook a bit of dust out before he opened the door.

"Oh, hi, Derpy, whatcha got today?"

"Muffins!" The pegasus pony with grey coat, blonde mane and golden eyes would be kinda pretty... if weren't for her wall-eye. She took a package from her back and handed it to the earth pony.

"Hey, Scratch, you got any muffins left?"

"Sorry, kid, we didn't get any today." Both the earth pony and the pegasus looked a bit disappointed.

"Oh, well, Derpy. Thanks for the delivery and I'll try to save you one for tomorrow." The pegasus brightened and turned to fly off to her next delivery. "Hey, Octavia, good you're still here, you'll want to stay for this. I think this has the records you ordered from Manehatten."

Octavia's ears perked up. "Oh, I've been wanting to hear that Manehatten Philharmonic record you ordered. Where did you ever find it?"

"Ah, just luck," he demurred modestly.

"Luck, nothing," Vinyl Scratch boasted. "That's why I hired you, Crate Digger; you could always find interesting stuff in the stacks for my shows. So, what we get?"

Digger rummaged around and found a knife to open the box, carefully opening it. "Let's see... oh, here's that 'Equestrian Girls' 12" of yours. Looks like they finally got it pressed."

"Sweet... this will be a big hit at the clubs when I go to Canterlot." She used her telekinesis to extract the records from the box to get a better look at her own likeness on the cover. "Oh, good they got my good side."

Crate Digger rolled his eyes and continued looking through the box. "Oh, here's the Manehatten LP for you, Octavia, 'Firebird Suite'... and I also found a recording of Debusneigh's 'Sonata for Piano and Cello'."

"Frédéric will want to hear that as well, see if we could work that into our recitals." She carefully took the records. "Say, anything else in there for me? And do you have a saddlebag I could borrow?"

The male pony took a quick glance through the rest and shook his head. "Doesn't look like it. I think there's a saddlebag in the engineer's booth."

"Thanks. I really do need to head out." She dashed to the booth to grab the saddlebag, carefully put the records in and left. "See you tomorrow," she called out.

The male pony looked up at his unicorn boss, "She's not quite as distant as she once was."

The white unicorn snorted and shook her mane, "It's amazing what friendship can do. Anything else?"

"Well... let's see. Oh, here's that Wild Horses reissue you wanted; I never knew you liked old school stuff."

"Hey, good music is good music, you should know that."

Crate Digger chuckled and went back to the box. "Oh, good that record of traditional music from Neighpon, that's mine. Along with the "A Horse With No Name" 7 inch... " He continued to riffle through the box, carefully sorting the records for his boss and himself.

Vinyl Scratch levitated her records and sorted through them, making sure, much like Crate Digger was, they had arrived in good shape. "Yeah, that looks like everything." She tucked the "Equestrian Girls" single and Wild Horses records into her own saddlebag. "You probably should get these moved to the back, so that Lotus and Aloe can come in. I'll catch ya' later, kid."

"Okay, later, I'll go file these. Anything you need from the back for your gig tonight?"

The unicorn thought for a moment. "I'll come by this afternoon if I need anything."

"Okay."

"Later." Vinyl trotted out the door to her own place, leaving the earth pony to move his latest treasures back into the dusty stacks of vinyl, the place where he was the happiest.
