I'm a member of the midnight crew.  When the sun and moon are actually behaving themselves, anyway.   I clean up the skies at night so you can see the stars through the clouds.  Or maybe it's more complicated than that.  It always is...

I love reading everything.  And I fancy myself a writer of ponyish fanfiction.  If I'm behind on reading fanfics it's probably because I'm up to my (currently tufted) ears in schoolwork.  But I feel at home here.  And so I shall stay.

A Dream of Dawn

When facing Twilight Sparkle, Nightmare Moon was given a choice: redemption or revenge.  What if she had chosen the latter?  A grim fate awaits Equestria, but in a time of greater strife and conflict, Discord's return is accelerated. While he expected to bring chaos, he did not anticipate that he would end the Longest Night and bring hope and joy back to the land.

Discord struggles to reconcile his nature with his desire for admiration.  While Twilight's friends strive to carve a new life in the ever-shifting Equestria, she searches for Celestia, the only one who can bring harmony back to her lands.  But Nightmare Moon also seeks her sister in a desperate attempt to find her place in the world.  New dangers lurk in the wild and more threaten to fall over Equestria.  Nightmare Moon's decision broke the balance of the world.  Will Equestria ever turn to peace, or will the spiral of chaos and destruction be the end of everything?

(An alternate history, this story takes the universe established by the canon and explores one possible outcome if Princess Luna had not been redeemed.)

Special thanks to my pre-readers, MmmandarinOrange and DarkmatterButterflies for keeping  my head on, taking the journey of the story, and making it so much better than it would have been if I wrote it alone.

Mark of the Hourglass

One fateful day, Twilight Sparkle saved my life by pulling me away from a lightning strike.  I might not have my memory, but I have the most interesting filly in the world to bother until it comes back.  Unfortunately, the world doesn't seem to want to wait.  Something is wrong with the the fabric of time and space itself, and I just might be in the middle of it.  I just hope we can figure out what is happening before it's too late.

(A fic I started writing a LONG time ago... like two years, it was the middle of S1... and decided to drawer it because OCs suck.    Recently was inspired by watching some CRAZY ANIME to finish this up and chuck it out here.  Why not?  Enjoy.  Or don't.  I probably won't be writing OCs again for a very long time...)

Submitted a new story this morning.  I know for a lot of people following me, this might not be their cup of hot cider.

I won't begrudge anyone for passing it up.   For those of you not into horror, a new, longer-style adventure fic more in the tone of Dream of Dawn (though WAY less sucky, and lighthearted) should be up in about a week.  Depending how bad my school/thesis work gets, maybe give or take a few days.

I love horror.  Not senseless horror, not endless bloodbaths, but psychological horror with a real who and why and where--even if you don't necessarily manage to answer those questions for certain.   Real corners of the psyche, real places in which our reality can break, and the darkness (or light) that manifests through those cracks.  'S/he's a psychopath' doesn't really count.

Silent Hill 2 is the happiest I've been with a horror game, Fatal Frame 2 the second happiest, Eternal Darkness is way up in its own special category...  book-wise I took a fair amount of inspiration from House of Leaves, and it was challenging but really dug into my heartheadspace for weeks.    Horror movies are harder to come by.  Arguably Hitchcock is more suspense than horror, but wherever you put him, he's a lot of fun.    Other movies... it's hard to put a hoof on.  Alien, maybe?    I devour anything with a supernatural bent, and have a ton of American and Asian horror under my belt, but either I can't think of anything I loved to death or they scared me so witless I shut them out of my memory.

Horror needs hope.  Horror needs depth to be haunting.  And the point is still to delight and entertain,  NOT disgust.

After all, ghost stories have an important role in all societies.  And if you want to, well, you can think of this as just another Equestria ghost story... if that helps you sleep at night.

Indeed, thou likest us to scare you.

Your writing style is so clean and wonderful to read.  Your ability to cover the whole gambit of emotions from the creeping dread in "413 Mulberry Lane" to the warm, caring tones of "The Night After" quite frankly makes me envious of your talent.  I don't know what you will write next, but I eagerly await it.

I don't want to write Princess Sparkle until I've seen how she acts in Season 4.

Plus, um,  in the DoD timeline she probably still has a long way to go before she hits that point.

I'll think about it though.

That might have been before I got my friends to pre-read.  Right now I'm just trying to focus on the last handful of chapters... but I will try to clean it up.

Hey there! really liking Dream of Dawn, I'm on the fourth chapter. The story is really good, but there are quite a few grammar errors and typing mistakes. Have you considered looking for an editor? Just thought I'd let you know so your story can be the best that it can be :pinkiehappy:
