Vladmir Cavallo presiding. But call me Vlad if it's any easier.
Lesse here...I'm a resident of the Kitsap County, Washington state, where the weather is absolutely glorious. And, by glorious, I mean totally ridiculous. Sarcasm's a wonderful thing, isn't it?
I've had an interest in fanfiction since an early age, and have since evolved my writing style into one that I hope is quite distinguished. I'm a fan of gaming, though I'm also a brony through and through...though, you could probably tell that much because of my presence on this website.
I'm what some people may call...well, different. And I'm not afraid to admit that I myself deviate from norms. Matter of fact, I consider it one of my defining traits. I do what I do, and if people don't like it simply because of what it is, that's their problem. In my eyes, the subject matter in question is secondary to the level of sophistication and thought the person in question has given to it. Dedication is a beautiful thing, really, and if someone is dedicated towards something, one must not judge them purely based on what they enjoy.
Even though these stories may be about colorful ponies in the magical land of Equestria, I still make it a point to bring out more mature elements in my works. However, I make certain not to do so in a way that may seem distasteful. The most prominent of these elements being horror. So many writers have come to equate horror with gratuitous amounts of blood and violence, and this is why the genre has become so much of a hit-or-miss in the media. When I talk about horror, I mean the kinds of things that crawl into your skin. The kinds of things that stay with you, that make you look over your shoulder in fear, that keep you from looking at a dark corner or back alley in the same way again. Horror is supposed to inflict fear, genuine, long-lasting fear upon those who bear witness to it. Violence on its own, while it can be jarring, does not usually meet these ends.
In addition, I have come to pay particular notice to the rise of grimdark fics within the brony community, but more specifically, the grimdark fics that go on to relate tales of a particular character going insane and killing people. Now, I'm not against that on its own, but the thing that I've noticed is that, not only do these kinds of things end up as Cupcake rip-offs most of the time, but the reason behind their madness is usually flimsy, if not completely nonexistent. People don't go insane without a good reason, and honestly, I find that the process in which a character loses his or her sanity as a lot more interesting to follow than what happens afterwards. Matter of fact, if done properly, having a character take a little trip down the road of madness can be one of the best forms of character development a story can have. It's just that it's difficult to pull off.
(Also, if you happen to know of a particular musician by the name of NytMayr, then know that he and I are the same person. I just prefer using different usernames for each profession, for simplicity's sake.)
