Jonathan Coulton · 6:12am
Last year, the Humble Indie Bundle released a pack of music albums to be downloaded. I don't listen to enough music as is, so I figured I'd grab the bundle and give them a shot. Overall, most of them really didn't stick, though your mileage may vary. My favorite of the group was "Jonathan Coulton's Great Hit (Plus 13 Other Songs), which wound up being a regular listen at work or on car trips. If you have some time, I'd like you to listen to a few of my favorites from the album.
Like them so far? Pretty good variety there. You've got a song about what you have to do to stay on top, how awesome it feels to be on (prescription) drugs, the mundanity of adult life, and zombies. Each song is humorous but also says something about Jonathan himself. Finally, towards the end of the album, we have this song tucked away:
At a glance, it seems similar to his other songs. It's about a giant squid that just can't quite fit in. But rather than being filled with jokes and self-deprecating humor, the song is about crippling loneliness. Every time I listen to the album, this song always knocks me down. All of Jonathan's songs are so funny and uplifting, yet this one makes you want to cry. Its somber tone seems out of place in an otherwise upbeat album. But to me, that's what makes the song really work. If it stood on its own, it would be sad, but group it with the songs that never fail to make to make me smile, and I realize just what all is going on in Jon's head. There are multiple sides to him, just like there are for all of us. Some days I'm the most friendly person in the world, never failing to make others laugh. Other days, I'm as lonely as that squid.

Congrats on your story being on Equestria Daily!
