The creatures nodded as my blades appeared at my side. Zecora had summoned a bladed staff and sunk into a crouch, the staff clutched in her hooves.
The flames from my summoning circle slowly petered out revealing a faceless white pony with a black mane in a suit.
“Sere'tu'thas...” Zecora breathed, her eyes wide.
A rich voice came from the creature despite its lack of a mouth. “It's been a while since I've enetered this realm... what have we here...” It sounded oddly cheerful. “A young nosferatu with quite the aura, and a dark shaman...”
“You will do no harm creature, of this I will make sure.” Zecora said, aiming one end of her staff at it.
“Oh? And you think your pitiful amount of power will stop me? Even those two Elders you summoned are cowering in fear.” It said chuckling as black tendrils grew from its back. The two large creatures Zecora had summoned were indeed cowering beside her. “However, I will give this realm a chance...”
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Good question Nosferatu, I'm glad you asked.” It turned to me, my heart rate rising. “If you can land one strike on me, I will swear my loyalty to you and you will be able to summon my aid when you are in need of it. However, for you at least it will be a battle to the death. If I kill you it will be up to the forces of this realm to stop me.”
I glanced over to Zecora who had cringed at the offer. “Twilight I do not advise ta-”
“I'll do it.” I said, cutting off Zecora with my reply. “Under one condition.”
“Twlilight-” The zebra started but was cut off by the creature.
“And that is?”
“If I win you cannot under any circumstances break your contract, or kill anyone without permission, this includes me. Also, when I die you return to where I summoned you from.” I said. I had read up on situations like this happening in the past ending with the summoned creature killing its summoner to get out of the contract.
It chuckled. “Very well.” It said. “Prepare yourself.”
I got into a defensive stance, concentrating on the creature as I summoned a third blade in the tree behind it.
Suddenly its tendrils shot towards me, I brought my blades up to block and shot the third blade down at the creature, hoping that my plan would work. I felt a lance of pain shoot through my leg as one of the tendrils stabbed into it. A thud was heard as the third blade hit home.
“GAH!” It yelled in pain at the blade lodged in its back. “What the?” Its tendrils retraced as Zecora fell to her haunches, jaw hanging open. “It appears I underestimated you...” It said as a tendril pulled the blade from its back.
“I'll be honest I'm surprised that worked...” I said, gritting my teeth in pain. “Zecora, a little help please?”
“Buh... wha... but... how... um... okay...” Zecora stammered as she slowly got up, leaving her dumbstruck summonings where they were.
“Well... a contract is a contract, and I agreed to it...” It sighed. “I must be out of practice...”
“I've read that some contracts usually are represented by a mark on the holder of the contract.” I said as Zecora returned with a bag of medicinal herbs.
“At least I'm not saddled with an imbecile, yes they do, although unlike in most stories they are hidden unless called on or you reveal it.”
“Very well, do it.” I said. “Also, what should I call you?” I asked as it nodded and extended a tendril over to me.
“In the last world I terrorized I was known as the Slenderman, although that hardly applies here as I am no longer humanoid.” It said as the tendril touched my right eyebrow, a stinging sensation surrounding my eye.
“Perhaps Slendermane would work?” I said.
“That does have a good ring to it, very well Slendermane it is, I shall return to my realm until I am called upon, with your permission mistress.”
“Go ahead.”
“Defeated by a pony with one of the oldest tricks in the book... I am out of practice. Until you call then, farewell mistress.” It said as it disappeared in a burst of black flames.
I let out a loud sigh as I relaxed. “Be honest with me, how stupid was that...” I said to Zecora.
“That was more idiotic than facing down an ursa major with only a tissue as a weapon...” She said. “Do you have any idea who that was?” forgetting to rhyme, clearly still shocked at how things went.
“No... and that is probably a good thing.” I replied.
“That was Sere'tu'thas, lord of the void. You just defeated a creature Celestia and Luna would have trouble with by sheer luck.” Zecora said. “And now you have his power at your disposal.”
My jaw dropped as my mind tried to process the idea of controlling that much power.
“Twilight are you feeling well? You seem to be a bit-” I didn't hear the rest of what she said as I blacked out.
“Twilight Sparkle! Art thou alright?” Luna's voice echoed through my mind in the dreamscape.
“I think I just passed out...” I said shaking my head.
“I felt a spike of dark magic, what happened?”
“Remember what you said about not summoning eldritch horrors?"
"Yes..." Luna sounded worried at that statement.
"Let's just say I've gained a powerful ally by sheer luck.” I said with a sigh as the dreamscape started to fade.
“I'll take thine word for it.” Luna said as I woke up.
