Was it show ruining or shark jumping? No. Not even close. In fact, I'm rather interested to see where they go with this, since it definitely seems like a long term thing.
Was the episode itself good? Kind of. Honestly, I think the whole switching cutie marks thing would have stood fine as its own episode, and I think it deserved a full episode's worth of time. Twilight becoming an alicorn kind of feels like it got tacked on at the end because they couldn't find anywhere better to put it. I think it would have fit much better as the conclusion to an epic two-parter, rather than something that feels more like a condensed regular episode. Apparently we'll have to wait until next season for our epic two-parter, though.
On a separate note, I feel like Twilight was way too chill about suddenly becoming a princess, which is probably a product of trying to cram at least two episodes worth of material into one. There should have been a couple of minutes set aside for a proper Twilight freak out.
eta: Also, I think Derpy finally making a proper cameo is the writers' little reassurance to us that they've still got this, and maybe a little fuck you to Hasbro, as well.

Alright, now that that's done with, can we stop freaking out and declaring RUINED FOREVER! until the final actually airs?

Yeah, I think we all know what's coming.
Hey look, the writers have been reading my fanfic.
Now that I'm almost done with Aurora, I thought I'd talk a bit about what I'm planning to do next. First of all, not a sequel. Sorry to crush all of your hopes, but I don't really see anywhere good I can go with it after this. Instead, I've had an idea for a new, unrelated story kicking around my head for a couple of weeks. Now that I've gotten that massive update out, I'm thinking I'm gonna write a chapter or two of it. The new story is called Abdication, and it's going to be a comedy adventure focusing on Luna and Celestia. Don't worry, I'll still finish the final chapter of Aurora in a reasonable amount of time.
I should also give a warning, though. We all know nothing should ever take priority over ponies. Unfortunately, a few things are, such as trying to find a job, getting ready for school in a month, and writing something that someone might actually consider giving me money for at some point. I give my solemn word that I will finish Aurora before schools starts, hopefully well before. After that, though, updates will be on a "When I don't have a shitload of p-chem and physics homework" schedule, aka not very often. Oh real life, how I hate you.
Anyway, since pretty much all of the major spoilers for Aurora are now out in the open, feel free to ask me anything about the story. Or, you know, anything else, if you want.
If you're having serious problems writing a scene, it probably means it's a bad scene. Try going back and reworking something, so that you can either change the scene significantly, or cut it entirely.
The other day, I stumbled upon this amazing story, and was disturbed to find it only had a couple hundred views. I'd strongly recommend it to anyone who likes Octavia, or Luna for that matter. I haven't read any of the author's other stories yet, but they all look pretty damn good. Now go, my loyal minions, and bring the gift of favorites and thumbs up!
PS: I still don't have access to my main computer. FYI, Samsung's warranty is an absolute piece of shit. I think I'm gonna have to just buy a new power cord. On the plus side, I got Aurora onto Gdocs, so slow progress is being made.
So the power cord on my laptop just crapped out on me. I'm borrowing my roommate's netbook right now, but unfortunately, the new chapter is only on my computer. I should be able to get this fixed within a week tops, but until then, expect delays.
