Happy Holidays! (Part Five) · 3:56pm
I met a mare who lives in Canterlot, and she was headed for
Fillydelphia and some homemade apple pie. Mmm!
So, how about that Applejack? I stopped by TV Tropes the other day, and found one page explaining that Applejack has progressed from being a headstrong and obstinate fireball to a character who more readily exemplifies the "team mom" trope. As I understand it, the team mom is basically the responsible one who acts a bit more grown up than the others, and exhorts the rest of the team to act more rational and mature. Applejack is certainly the most grounded of the Mane Six (is that an earth pony joke?), but I find "team mom" to be an undeserved fate for Ponyville's greatest rodeo star, would-be Iron Pony champeen, and the rootinest, tootinest little pony to ever kick a tree. I like Applejack when she is a pony of action, and so I enjoyed seeing her get back to her rough and rowdy roots in challenging Rainbow Dash to see who was the most daring pony of all. It may not have been a "team mom" thing to do, but it did seem to me to be a quintessentially "Applejack" thing to do. Even she knows there's more to life than merely "apples, apples, apples!"
You just keep on keepin' on, cowpony, and I'll keep being a fan of yours.
