    Short update · 12:23am

Maybe I'll elaborate on this soon but here's the short version.

Trotcon was a blast, and I'd love to tell everyone about the fun I had and hanging with my pals on the fanfic panels.

However, I came home to bad news and I'm kinda distracted by that at the moment. The main reason I don't do blog updates anymore is I lack internet at home, and I happen to be at a friend's house right now to abuse internet for job searching.

Yeah, I came home to find out I had lost my job. And the reason they let me go...

    Is because I'm a brony.

And bronies shouldn't be allowed to work with children...

I had just started training in my new career as a live in caretaker at a school dedicated to raising orphans and troubled teens, and someone asked about the sticker on my car (a Pinkie Pie) and the pin on my shirt collar (a Big Mac cutie mark from Pinfilly). I mentioned that I was into MLP and got mercilessly teased by the other trainees since MLP is 'just for little girls'. I didn't divulge further on the topic, since it was clear from our first day of training that the most important thing that this place wanted was professionalism, and it wasn't anyone's business what I liked. The only other thing I said was there are a lot of grown people of all ages and genders into the current show, and I happened to be sucked into it. Nothing more.

The day after that (which was today), I was pulled aside and told I wasn't working out and they couldn't give me further details as they were protected by 'at will' employment law.

I was doing better than anyone in the course. I was asking tons of questions and learning a lot. The only reason they would have made this decision is because I like cartoon horses.

And I'm not going to stop liking cartoon horses.

We've had to change plans so the blog has been removed. This donation from Ami Havivy and Tara Strong is bigger than we expected and we can't find the big donors to raise money for these without help, nor can we give them away via raffle without help. Thanks to the  Daily Oat for reblogging the project, but all other brony news outlets ignored us. I will have a few of the paintings available for purchaee at Trotcon, and we will go ahead with the small silent auction we have planned there. My friend Josh (one of the PR heads for Bronycon) has agreed to take the remaining pieces off my hands since they are able to get the publicity to sell them at the price they command.

I'm very discouraged right now, and I apologize to anyone else who feels the same. See you at Trotcon and we'll try and have a blast.

So yeah, I'm aware I haven't been very active in fanfic for quite a while. There's several explanations for this, but it really comes down to time. My job has been working me 70 hours a week and I'm too stressed to sit down and write in my free time. On a good note, I will be leaving this job soon and starting a new one mid-June, but this new job will be very time consuming, but far more rewarding than what I do now. My hooves have been equally busy in my free time with other things. There was a relationship for a while, running the Midwest Brony Division, and now planning for Trotcon, where my buddies Steel, Shifty and I have been invited as guests. If you're coming by, I'll also be running fanfic and writing panels with my pals PavFeira, milesprower06, JasonTheHuman, and ROBcakeran53 and a panel on conventions with Darkly Cute and Purple Tinker.

On that note, there's something else I'd like to announce.

THE HEARTH'S WARMING CARE PACKAGE IS BACK AND COMING TO TROTCON

I will be running a silent auction from my space in the game room, with all proceeds going to help fellow fanfic author Late To The Party.

For more on his story please check his latest blog entry: A Tale Of Two Siblings

More details to come, but there will be some prizes that are open to bidding if you're not attending the con... many of them probably of interest to you fanfic fanatics... stay tuned!

I will be taking a few weeks off between jobs to decompress and do some writing. Gravity is in progress again, and I do apologize for the wait, but fanfic is a hobby to me, and as such, there are higher priorities in my life. I appreciate the feedback on my work so far, and hope to bring you more work in the future when my life permits me to.

tl;dr : I’m sorry the fandom is in an uproar because of my actions.

I truly loathe that I am in this position right now, but I feel my hand has been forced, and I must make a public statement about a bit of uproar in the fandom that while I had no direct involvement, I still feel somewhat responsible for causing.

I will spare most of the unfortunate details, since there are plenty other places going on about it, and I don’t wish to repeat the hurtful things that have been said, but I will give some information to explain my involvement in what happened and so I can apologize to both parties on what went wrong.

First a bit of context for my role in the story. In February, I came to the decision I wished to attend Trotcon this year, as it not only looked like fun, but it was one of the closest brony conventions to where I live. Even though I help run a rather large local fanbase around Chicago and the surrounding Midwest states, I knew none of my closest friends were going to be able to attend, so I started looking around to see who I could share my travel with to avoid covering room cost on my own with my meager salary.

It was also around this time that I became quite involved in aiding the LPU relief efforts. As a result, I began speaking on a more regular basis with Purple Tinker, founder of Bronycon, via Twitter. She happened to mention at one point her interest in attending the con, and I extended my hand to say if she wished to go, I’d save her a spot in my room.

At the same time I was rounding out the rest of the room with some good pals from the fanfiction world who were talented, lived in the general area of the con, and were interested in attending the con and doing a fanfiction panel with me for the con. Hence, the roster of the room was filled out with PavFeira (author of My Little Chrono, and winner of my Hearth’s Warming Care Package project) and milesprower06 (author of Letters From A Disgruntled Friendship Student).

Then, about two weeks ago, I received word from one of my closest friends that his group, which I play a large role in as well, was invited as a VIP Guest of Trotcon after I told him to apply for a guest appearance there. This meant that he would be receiving a hotel room for the group, shared between him, myself, and one other. I made my original roommates aware of the situation, and that I was not going to ask them to pay more than what their fair share was originally, and they simply would have a little more hotel space as a result.

Everything was in place and fine until late last night, when a close friend made me aware of a situation that was unfolding on the RoosterTeeth forums between miles and Tinker.

What fueled this war of words was a clash of beliefs, and I will not be placing blame on one party or the other in this apology, I simply wish to make it clear that I was responsible for bringing these two ideologies together to clash in the first place, and a lot of heartbreak could have been avoided had I not organized these people together on this trip.

Earlier this week, Purple Tinker caught a lot of flak for a tweet she made in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, when she called out the Bronycon Twitter feed for using the word ‘pray’ in their expression of sorrow towards the victims of the tragedy unfolding.

I am not interested in playing politics or taking sides in this matter, as I feel my personal beliefs are just that: personal; and as such there is no need for me to publicly express where I stand on this matter. However, I will express that I understand why Purple Tinker was upset over the tweet. Bronycon simply wished to express their sorrow over what was currently unfolding, and since I’m personally acquainted with their PR staff (withholding who to avoid sucking people into this mess involuntarily), I’m certain they did not mean any offense with the use of the word ‘pray’. Still, the religious connotations behind the word offended Tinker’s personal beliefs on religion, and while perhaps this wasn’t the most appropriate time to make a statement about it, I feel most of the community has unfairly judged her statement about it. My own personal beliefs aside again, many members of the LGBT community, such as Tinker herself, have been persecuted again and again by religion, and yet as a society we tend to use words with an religious etymology on a regular basis which in this case, she took offense. Yes, it’s a mess of political correct stigma, but unfortunately that is the age we live in.

That aside, it was these statements that fueled miles’ to make his own statements on an internet forum calling out Purple Tinker’s feelings towards religion, which are quite different from his own. While a difference in personal beliefs is fine, the way in which he went about it was not. The comments he made quickly turned into a series of rude gags between himself and users, mocking Tinker’s status as a member of the Transgender/sexual community. Whereas Tinker’s public statement was called out as a matter of bad timing, these comments were outright hurtful, and made under the poor assumption that it’s not going to hurt the person who is at the expense of the joke if they never see it.

Well, that plan backfired, because someone notified Tinker of what was going on, and then someone else made me aware that these two were clashing. Now, it was upon me because part of the heated conversation they had involved how much their difference in beliefs was going to make them clash at Trotcon if they room together, which was my idea in the first place. While I don’t believe it excuses miles’ actions, I do believe that he wouldn’t have gone around saying these things had I not organized this trip to begin with. And I never would have organized a trip with these people as roommates if I had any inkling that their personal beliefs would publicly clash in such a way.

I’d like to say I’m sorry to both of them for this. Tinker, I’m sorry for the persecution you are put through by many out there, and I’m deeply sorry that you were put through this as a result of my poor choices. miles, I’m sorry I paired us all together with someone that clashes with your personal beliefs, and it was not intentional, it was simply a matter of me not being aware of your personal beliefs as I tend to not pry on what one’s personal beliefs are. I’d also like to apologize to Darkly Cute, head of Trotcon, who was notified of the situation going on, as it was looking like the con she has put so much work into was going to get pulled into this mess. Rest assured that I have found a solution to the situation that doesn’t involve either party forced or feeling the need to make new travel arrangements so close to the con.

Probably the biggest shame in all of this is the timing, as it happened to unfold in the wee hours of what is known as the Day of Silence: a worldwide day of protest in response to the needless bullying of LGBT youth, whom are quite often driven to harm or suicide on account of people thinking it’s okay to mock someone for being different. We are all different, and that is what makes each of us special. Nobody should be judged for who they are, and it’s especially hurtful when I see it happening in the brony community, because honestly people: My Little Pony has taught you better than that.

In the wake of this day of protest and the events that have unfolded, I’d like to close with a personal experience from my youth that I not only feel is relevant to both parties in this matter, but an important highlight of the issue Day of Silence is about.

In my senior year of high school, I had an unfortunate encounter with a fellow student that resulted in me being suspended for a week for using a racial slur. I know. That’s terrible, but stay with me here. While I’m not a fan of any of these societal labels (I’m simply me, and that’s all that matters), I am, depending on who you ask for these labels, either straight, ally, or metrosexual. I was friends with several homosexual students in my school, including my best friend who I ended up rooming with my freshman year of university. Because of the foolish assumptions of other students, and because the only girls I dated in these years attended other schools, there were rumors I was ‘gay’ as well.

This led to my classmate approaching me during class one day and using the slur ‘faggot’ when addressing me. Not only was I offended that he thought he could simply assume my sexual identity, but that he thought my sexual identity was grounds for mockery. I did not respond with violence or hatred, I simply told him to his face that his choice of words was hurtful to many friends I had, and that the word he used carried the same kind of weight to my friends as the word ‘nigger’ did to him as an African-American.

He decided to cry to a teacher that I had used a racial slur, and I was appropriately punished for using the word, although I defend to this day it was only used in an appropriate context to prove a point. However, my school did not believe the use of the word ‘faggot’ was offensive, and my classmate was not punished for his actions, and I doubt learned anything from the experience.

I’d like to point out at the close of this tale that since then, I’ve learned that a few of the bronies in the local fandom I help run are students are my old high school, and have become instrumental in founding a Gay/Straight Alliance on the campus.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words still hurt.

    Thank you.

    Love and TOLERATE,

Well, the last three months have been hell, but I'm finally returning to 4 day, 40 hour work weeks. Which means spare time. And no distractions, because I'm also single again. Maybe I can finally get some writing done.

For now though, I'm gonna finally catch up on my read update list and gotta organize a meetup next weekend. Taking the local bronies downtown Chicago to see Hey Ocean (DRINK CIDER LEARN NOTHING)

I'll be around lurking. Reading Anthropology right now. Been meaning to scratch it off my read list for months and now I HAVE to so I don't look like an ass when JasonTheHuman guests on my Trotcon panel.

The last two days have been my first chance in weeks to get some writing done.

Unfortunately, I spent both days in bed, sick as a dog...

I have the rest of Gravity planned out, just need the time to writie it. Soon I'll be done training employees and back to four day, 50 hour work weeks instead of my current five day, 65+ hours.

In cool news, I raised $1200 for the LPU relief league, most of which went to help little Kiki. I'm glad someone is gonna get some joy out of these cards and comics.

Been finalizing my convention plans for the year. Going to way more than I planned. I'll be at C2E2 and GenCon, both of which I never miss, but I'll also make it to the MLP Toy Fair, and TrotCon.

TrotCon is gonna be a blast. I'll be meeting and shacking up with some friends in the fandom I'm eager to meet in person. PavFeira, milesprower06, and Purple Tinker will be staying with me, and I'll be hosting panels with them. If you can make it to TrotCon, it should be worth it.

Oh and I guess I'm going to some reptile convention this weekend. Sounds neato, I guess. I once had a snake named Dr. Rockso...

Anywho, time for work.  Hoping for a short day so I can get this Gravity draft done.

Also thanks for the positive response to Light Bulb. It was a silly, stupid story, but I'm glad people got a laugh out of it. On that note, several of my pals pressured me to send that one into EqD, even though I'm not a fan of their fanfiction selections or prereaders (no hate, Love and Tolerate, but I have my opinions). After waiting three and a half weeks, here's what they said.

    Dear author or authors,

I regret to inform you that I cannot recommend your story be posted to Equestria Daily.

Look for errors in the following areas, but please do not consider this a comprehensive list of your errors:

    Passive tense narration

Telling emotions instead of showing them

    Out-of-character Celestia

Despite being a "comedy," there is very little in the way of comedic pacing (unless you count Celestia, queen of Equestria and god of the sun, throwing a temper tantrum, to be funny)

The whole premise of this is that... they don't understand how lamps work

This is your first strike of three; if you choose to revise your story to attempt for a second round, I suggest taking your story to Ponychan's /fic/.

Yeah. I don't think they read it either.

So... The last 24 hours have put a lot of my life into perspective. As the blog title implies, I really should be six feet under right now, and it's a small miracle I'm alive.

I've been thinking a lot about the tragedy that has befallen attendees and, to some extent, guests of Las Pegasus Unicon. I'll save my full opinion as it would be full of rage, but what some people had to go through as a result of this is inexcusable. I don't care right now who is to blame, and perhaps that can all be figured out when the dust settles, but for now, there are many wonderful members of this fandom in need.

I was wondering what I could do to help, until yesterday happened.

I was driving a work vehicle down the interstate on the way to a raccoon rescue, and it had just started to snowstorm here in Chicago. I felt the truck begin to slide, and slowed down thinking it was the road conditions, but before I knew it, the truck was sliding into the other lanes and did a 180 before colliding with the barrier.

Somehow I flew across three lanes of traffic into a barrier without hitting another car, and I wasn't injured at all.

    I should be dead...

This put a lot of my life into perspective, and as the day continued, I realized I have a lot of... "things". Random MLP stuff I've collected over the last year and a half, some of it with great monetary value to some, but in the end, they're just things. And I don't need things. So a good chunk of my collection has gone up on the LPU charity auction page.

There are some VERY valuable and rare items up for auction, listed below are items I posted:

    Princess Cadence Plushie

Autographed MLP Issue 1 (1 of only 750 printed)

Autographed MLP Issue 1 Derpy and Doctor variant

ULTRA RARE Autographed Issue 1 variant (ONLY 125 EVERY PRINTED)

    Rarity Bronycon Exclusive Promo Card

Applejack Canterlot Gardens Exclusive Promo Card

Fluttershy Everfree Northwest Exclusive Promo CardDerpy New York Comic Con Exclusive Promo Card

All 4 rare Gold series pack card (not the box toppers)

And the rest are a bunch of various cards for particular episodes signed by the writers

    Hey bronies and pegasisters.

My pals at Radio Is Magic are having me on as a guest tomorrow night. 6-8 central US time.

This will be my second appearance on their show. The last one was a blast and very random.

    I like random

I gotta say, I'm quite surprised by the warm response to HMPDITTCALB (gesundheit!). Seriously, it was a rather weak draft before I talked it over with Steel and Kar. The original ending was garbage (I had written a story that was 4k words longer than I expected and realized I had no idea how to end it). But I'm very happy to see the response and thanks for kind words and I'm glad it made people laugh. There's enough craziness in this fandom, and sometimes you just gotta smile and laugh.

Anywho, I also noticed a couple milestones. Hit 200+ watchers. Gravity has hit 500 upvotes. 15k pageviews. Not too shabby. I also noticed that I'm falling into a weird pattern. When I picked up writing fanfic about 9 months ago, I thought I'd just be writing ships and sad stuff, but now I've realized I'm falling into nearly every genre. I've had three features now, all of them very different types of stories. A sad epic, a romantic clop, and a random comedy... guess I have to go dark or human next XD

Catching up on some reading next, and then gonna finish the draft for the next entry of Gravity. Thanks again for reading. I'll be around.

Oh, and here's something my gf drew me for Hearts and Hooves day. Cute.

    null

Happy Hearts and Hooves day to you all. For me, I gotta go spend it working and then visit the NIU memorial.

Well, it's not Gravity, but it's something. After watching the fandom go into a meltdown over the announcement of AliTwi, I just felt the need to write something about it.

Gravity's next canto is about half complete, and sitting at 6.7k words. In the meantime, I hope y'all enjoy How Many Princesses Does It Take To Change A Light Bulb?

I'm still working 70+ hour work weeks while my company trains new employees to help my workload, but Gravity is next on my list.

Oh and here, have some art. Someone sent me this the other day. It's supposed to be my girlfriend and I. Pretty cute, and pretty cool to get fanart.

    Love and Tolerate!
