I guess you could pay out a war, and then write the story about it?

Going by Ponies vs Humans /Humans vs Ponies, but on which side would you place the war?
Would they be on Earth, or in Equestria? How would the local change the warfare, and the outcome?

There is the Question as to who is representing the respective sides.
Or, are we going all the way, Earth vs Equestria? A War of the Worlds, as it were.

You need to figure who is to start the war, and why. How the respective sides fire up their forces and how to motivate the sides to join up against the other side. Follow a patern like WWs 1 and 2?

If we go all the way, it would seem easy to pick Celestia and Luna to be leading the Ponies for Equestria.

1737515 In my head while ponies have been through some wars none have ever devolved into all out bloodshed and insanity. So if I ever wrote a fan fic of a war between ponies and humans I'd have it lean towards the humans but not have them outright win.

For a related sidenote, I am planning on writing a story about the Twilight Guard. As a Princess, she needs her own Palace guard, like the previous 3 before her.
