There was once a man. Let's call him 'Pierce' for now. For half a year, he'd been aware of these 'brony' people, and had read up on their memes and common jokes, but not once did Pierce ever actually watch the show. The reason? He was afraid he'd like it. Come late August of 2011, he finally caved; he ended up watching the entire first season in three days, and was waiting eagerly for season two to begin. The dry spell for him was short, but a it was a dry spell nonetheless. He was bored. And so, for the first time ever, he decided to do something so horribly wrong--so creepily strange, that his only justifications were that he was extremely bored to the point where he could use some cheap entertainment.

He started to read fanfiction.

Starting on fanfiction.net, Pierce was reading MLP fanfiction just to humor himself, but he quickly discovered something. Until then, he'd only read two fanfictions ever: My Immortal and some really weird Naruto fic his sister showed him. But now, he realized, fanfiction could be funny, action-packed, mysterious, and even heart-wrenching. He was hooked; being a person of large imagination, he couldn't help but start creating his own ideas for fanfiction, and soon he started his own account. The account has since been abandoned, but two incomplete fics still lay dormant there--one of which being 20 chapters deep with over 60,000 words.

When Pierce moved to FimFiction.net, he brought over only one of his stories. People were actually watching and favoring it, and he couldn't help but feel self-conscious of the fact that he only had one fanfiction on his account. Looking at a list of ideas, he decided upon one of them to whip up and take a second slot.

Without coming up with an ending, and barely having a plot, Pierce started to write a fic where Princess Luna becomes mysteriously pregnant.

And you sons of bitches still want me to finish it.

Okay, look, first off I want to get a few things off my chest: Shift With the Tides was made purely as a placeholder, and honestly, it would've been Cancelled by now if it hadn't been asked by so many people for me to continue. Second, when I was writing it, I was doing something I now realize is a TERRIBLE idea for someone like me: Writing by the Seat of Your Pants. I did with SWtT, I did it with Substitute Sanity (which I still haven't finished), and I even did it with Darn it, Pavlov!

I would like to take a moment here to thank user Apple_Jax for helping me out a bit with actually creating a damn plot. This leads me to another point of mine: my original idea was shoddy, and it also sucked. Thank God I had someone to point out to me that my idea was dumb and point me in another direction. As much as I would like to tell you all what that original idea was, I'm a bit ashamed to--which leads me to my third point:

I'll admit it--I'm afraid of negative feedback, of people not liking where I take my story. For that reason, I felt it be better I just abandon it, but that's not fair to any of you. As such, I've decided upon a new plot--for better or worse--and am currently working on it right now. I would've kept it secret a bit longer, as well as write a few more chapters before claiming I've made a 'comeback' like a few months ago, in which I didn't do ANYTHING afterward. But I found out just yesterday that today is the one-year anniversary of Shift With the Tides being published, and I'm a sucker for things like that. So, have the fifth chapter! Whether the story ends up meeting, exceeding, or being far below your expectations--for better or worse--it's getting done. I can only hope that my ADHD-fueled procrastination doesn't strike again. But I have four stories: one Cancelled, one Complete and two On Hiatus; even if I never do anything else on this site, I'm GOING to finish what I started.
