    Discussion: Gundam · 6:05pm

That's right everybody, today we're talking about one of my favorite series of all time, "Mobile Suit Gundam." Gundam a series that made its start in 1979, under the name "Mobile Suit Gundam", made by Yoshiyuki Tomino. The story of the series follows a war between Colonists in space and people on Earth. The main character of the series is kid usually who gets his hands on a Mobile Suit(Giant Robot), called "Gundam." The kid demonstrates a superior ability to pilot said machine and fights to protect his friends and defeat an evil menace.

I first got into Gundam back when one of the spin off series, "Gundam Wing", came on Toonami back in the 90s. I was instantly hooked, and followed it ever since. I've watched many of the TV series, played the games, read comics, and built the models that came with it.

But then I had a thought, "Surely there must be a Gundam/Pony crossover?" So I took a look, and I haven't found anything worth mentioning. The only one's I have found had a Gundam in them but hardly focused on that aspect at all. Usually one of the main characters shipping with Twilight. And who wants to see Amuro Ray kissing Twilight Sparkle? And to the person that would, I wasn't talking to you.

So a question for you guys, "What do you think of Gundam?" And would you want to see a Pony/Gundam crossover?

    Here's a little sample,

In a reality with infinite universes, things tend to become familiar and different all at the same time. And sometimes, two universes with a difference so great, can come together to form one by mistake. This is a story of one of those universes.

It is the year 1000 of the Celestial Era. Half a millennium has passed since Equestria began sending its ponies into gigantic orbiting space colonies known as “Sides”. The colonies created a new way of life where ponies would be born, be raised, and die.

But the furthest colonies from Equestria, known as “Side Luna”, proclaimed itself the Republic of the Night, and launched a war of independence against the Solar Imperium. In the early months of the war, both sides lost half their respected populations. Ponies were horrified by the atrocities that were committed in the name of independence. After eight months had passed, and both sides were in a stalemate, one mare has a faithful encounter with a Mobile Suit. Who will survive?

So this little story came out the other day, Mortal, and it has been a nice read. It talks about Twilight's struggles to make the right choice about whether it's right to give immortality to ponies on their way to the grave. And after the most recent chapter, the fans are split to say the least.

    Spoilers ahead . . .

You done? No? I can wait.

    Now? Alright.

So, Twilight performs Alicornation on Rarity and makes her immortal. Then, she gets Rarity, to perform Alicornation on Rainbow Dash, who throughout this story has been a complete contemptible person. Emphasis on the "cont" part of that. But we can see where she's coming from, she hates seeing her friends die. But don't get me wrong, I hate what happened to Rainbow Dash in this story. Despite everything that has been explained to her, she hates Twilight for not turning Fluttershy into an Alicorn. That can be understandable, if you forget about the fact about Twilight telling Rainbow Dash what the repercussions are. Frankly, Rainbow Dash is behaving like a spoiled child in this story. I was waiting for a "Had enough of your shit Rainbow" moment, but it never came. Instead, the spoiled child got her toy. But that's not my main issue.

My main issue is Twilight handing out the Alicorn thing willy nilly. I'm sure you all know what that means right? It means that everybody would become immortal and have equal power. If you had the same power as the rest, would you settle for their rule? No. Who the hell do they think they are? Trying to rule over you, you have as much power as they. You know the right way to go, you deserve to rule.  And there lies one of the problems, you'd have people go along with a system sure, but you'll also have people who have equal power try to rule over the rest and fight for it.

In the comments I made an analogy that Equestria is like heaven, and Twilight was trying to become a goddess. You may gawk at that, but Equestria is a near perfect society. The ponies are provided for, have plenty of food, celebrate as often as one can, they have virtually no crime, and their ruler lives to serve the people. And Twilight is trying to take control of the one thing ponies can't control, their mortality. And she succeeded, but has ruined a near perfect society. And for that, she was cast out of Equestria, with a following of those devoted to her. We know this tale already you guys, and it does not end well. I don't know how we got to battle of gods, but here we are now. What do you guys think? This is my own interpretation on things, I'd love to hear your opinions.

The Man of Tomorrow, The Man of Steel, The Last Son of Krypton, the Superman.

One of the greatest heroes of all time, Superman has been around us for 75 years. That's a long time, and something we have to respect. Why am I looking at Superman now? Well, I've always had a place in my heart for this guy. He's everything we've always wanted to be. The best example of being human. I know he's not human, but he sees our potential and acts like the best of us would act. And that's something we should all strive for. Is he a tad overpowered at times? Maybe. But his stories are never about fighting to be the best, it's his story of how he fits in the universe. Him doing good, his moral obligations, his strength to pull him and his friends through the best and worst of times.

So tell me guys, what do you like about Superman? What do you hate about him? And as a side, don't come in and say, "Batman is better". Offer more to discussion than that, I know you guys can do it :)

Marvel Heroes is a game being developed by Gazillion Entertainment. I'll be honest with you guys, I do not know much about the development for this game. It kind of came out of nowhere for me. But, after getting invited to Beta the game, I decided to offer my opinion on it to you guys. I can't stress this enough, this is a first look. It's not a final opinion until the game comes out.

What can I tell you about the game? It's an MMORPG where you play as a Marvel character in a Diablo like set up. You get to play as a wide variety of character, which is good. What heroes can you play as? Pretty much any hero or villain that you can think of. For the casual fan of comics, you'll recognize the big names. And for the more hardcore fans, you'll see some names in there you'll like. I'm talking about Squirrel Girl y'all! And forget you haters! She's legit! Also I have no knowledge of her. Mainly because I'm a bigger DC fan than a Marvel fan. There are a lot of good stories I know, but I'm just not that into it. But, I do like a good Marvel game once in a while, and the Marvel movies are great thus far. I'd compare the current movies to DC's but the only hero they'd go up against in that regard is Batman. And that'd be an unfair fight.

But we're here to discuss the game, so what do I think of it? Not too bad. It's a Free to Play game, so no stupid subscription fees. But you do have to pay to get certain items. In essence, it's Pay to Win. I'm okay with Micro-Transactions, it's the users choice if they want to pay money. How difficult is the game? Well, like Diablo, not too difficult at all. Just click and you'll get that win. No real strategy when you first start out, but when you get up there you got some difficulty. The UI is pretty good too, simple and easy to navigate. As for gameplay, the Melee characters are very overpowered. Play as the Thing or Wolverine, and you'll be all good.

So, should you pick up the game? That's up to you, but from my assessment, it looks pretty decent for the comic fans. If you're a Diablo, League of Legends, or DOTA player, it'll be very familiar to you. Give it a try if you've got the chance.

I played the first Assassin's Creed when it came out. I remembered it had an interesting story, good voice actors for the most part, and some pretty good gameplay. You also had your bad ass protagonist, Altair. He showed us how to get the job done in the Medieval times. And then you had some stuff in our own time that was, for lack of a better term, dry. It was a good game for sure, and then I heard there was a sequel coming out, taking place in the Renaissance.

I was thinking, "Wow, that's going to be interesting!" And you know what? It wasn't. I got bored of it early on. Ezio Auditore was a shmuck in my opinion. The game felt slower, the landscapes were all the same, and it just made me sleepy. The game also featured Desmond, who I got tired of real fast. And then we find out about one of the big secrets in Assassin's Creed. A civilization before this one got wiped out by the sun and left clues to make sure the next civilization wouldn't have to suffer the wrath of the sun. That's lame. When we left off in the first game, I thought that the McGuffin was going to be mystical in some way. Turns out, it was aliens. But that's fine, I didn't stick around for the plot of Desmond and his shit. I stuck around for history, and I got bored of the Renaissance early on. And then, since people liked stupid Ezio, we got two more games with the bastard. I didn't play either of those, I was turned off from the series. That was until, Assassin's Creed 3 came out.

Taking place during the Revolutionary War, I immediately had a fascination with the game. And for the first bit, I liked it. Pretty good game, and I continued on with it to the end. Sure, you had to play as stupid Desmond and his stupid shit, but the game was decent overall. Except for the ending. I don't know how, but they fucked up the ending pretty badly. You have to make another choice between two options that suck(Mass Effect anyone?) and you don't even get to make the choice, Desmond does. And that sucks. I wasn't too upset(I only drank enough to puke once), because I didn't stick around for that shit, I stuck around for the History. And they might have muddled a few things here and there, but overall it was interesting to go back in time to the start of America. Plus that naval combat was something else, that was the best part of the game in my opinion. But then I figured, it was time to end the series there and move on. Or not.

They announced Assassin's Creed 4 a while ago, and I didn't know what to think. But then I found out what it was about, and it got me immediately hooked. PIRATES! YAR! Ye scour the Caribbean for plunder, grog, women, and targets! And more ship combat! What's not to like? Truly, if ye be a scurvy dog, it'll be worth a look.

But more on that later. Right now, I'm kind of pissed. You know why? Because I look on this site, and so many of the stories are crossovers or blatant rip offs of the damn game. Let's have Assassin's in Ponyville! Yeah that story will be awesome! And then we'll have Ezio fuck Twilight Sparkle, cause he's a lady's man! That shit sounds stupid. And it is. It's a stupid idea. And everyone does it! It won't stop! Why? Because people love that damn game.

I don't ask for much around here, but please stop putting Assassin's Creed in your stories. It's so boring to begin with, and fans won't make it any better. Just look for something else to cross your ponies with. I apologize for yelling, and I don't normally do this, but after going through some shit this morning, and just seeing the flux of stories all at once, I just needed to vent.

It's a sad time for the employees that got screwed here for sure. 150 people laid off, needing to look for new jobs. But let me say this, don't blame Disney. Lucasarts had this coming for quite a while. Why am I against Lucasarts in this case? Well, it's because I was a big fan of them.

Back in the day, I played the hell out of Lucasarts games. Games that forever influenced me. Hell, some of these games helped me gain a better understanding of the world. The game that influenced me was a game known as: Tie Fighter.

Tie Fighter was a flight simulator game where you played as a pilot in the Imperial Navy. And your job was to take down Rebel Terrorists that dared threaten the people of the Empire with the dastardly acts. Paints Star Wars in a different picture when you say it like that right? I'd say, even today, that the game is one of the best games I've ever played. The gameplay was awesome, the replay value was high, the story was fantastic, and for the time the Graphics were phenomenal. In fact, you could say that most of the Star Wars Flight Simulators were great. The Rouge Squadron series, the Starfighter series, and X-Wing were all great games.

Lucasarts also made one of the first great shooters. You all remember Doom right? That violent game that parents hated? Well, here came the alternative: Dark Forces. You played as an ex-Imperial named Kyle Katarn, and it was your job to help bring down the Empire with your kick ass ship. Further down the series, Kyle became a Jedi and helped create a game where you truly felt like a Jedi.

And then they came out with a game that's in my Top 5. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Taking place 4000 years before the movies, you played as virtually your own character, and creating your own place within the galaxy. Whether it was a dark legend or light one, you did it. The sequel was great too, expanding on the Time Line the game took place in. I should probably do a Let's Play or something for these games since they were so amazing.

But then at some point, the time for these games passed. I think it happened around the time Lego: Star Wars came out. The game made a lot of money, and was a safe bet for both kids and adults. Lucasarts played it safe for a while there, with the odd serious release. For example, the Force Unleashed. The Force Unleashed had you play as "Vader's Secret Apprentice". And the point of this game, was to take the force to its extreme level. How extreme? You bring down a Star Destroyer! A ship big enough to fit 50,000 people onboard. That's awesome. At least in concept. The idea and the promise was that you'd be strong enough in the force in the game to do this. But then reality kicked in and made that part a mini game. The final project was a hack and slash that had you powerful in the force for sure, but didn't have you reach that awesome level that you felt like you were going to reach. The game did well enough to get a sequel which did pretty awful. Gameplay became more God of War like, enemies were limited, and the story felt rushed. So that virtually failed, but Lucasarts came out with another big game. A sequel to a game I praised early. That game was The Old Republic.

When I heard about the game, I was downright pumped. I was ready to return to that time and become the greatest Jedi ever. But then I heard the terrible news, it was going to be an MMO. Understand, I don't hate MMOs. I played a bit of GW2 and WoW and had a lot of fun. I just don't like it for Star Wars, especially for the KOTOR universe. The games always created a personal story between the player and the universe, and that's not something that can be shared. You lose your uniqueness after that. But I gave it a try and played for a few months. I enjoyed it, but then I realized I was paying a lot of money for an experience I could be getting for pennies in WoW or for free in Guild Wars. So I stopped playing, and I wasn't the only one who did it. ToR has bombed financially and for a game that cost millions of dollars to make, that isn't good.

Lucasarts then decided to continue playing it safe. Lego games and the abomination, Star Wars Kinect. And would you guys believe that the Kinect game was their last game? Not some good Star Wars game, not some great adventure, not something completely new and interesting, just a Kinect game. And a bad one at that.

Something I should have mentioned earlier was, that Lucasarts didn't just make Star Wars games. They made a lot of interesting games in the past. Such as Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, and so many others. They were once known for their innovation and progress. But, they lost that initiative to do something great, and ended up at the bottom.

Like I said, it's sad. And it's sad for me to say this but, it's a miracle they lasted this long with their attitude. I'm not saying I'm glad people lost their jobs, far from it. I hope these people get jobs that let them use their talents in the future.

But now, Disney has the license for Star Wars games. They're responsible for a lot of great games, and only go for deals that are entertaining and profitable. Granted, we've seen a lot of cash in games before. But some of those games turned out pretty well. And you know a lot of these companies are going to want to get in line to deliver the next big Star Wars game right? We want it, and the public will deliver. Hell, imagine Blizzard making the next Star Wars game. I'd buy it.

Point is, feel bad for the people who lost their jobs, but feel optimistic for the future.

I hate April Fool's on the Internet. I hate the, "Oh look at us! We're going to shut down the site!", or, "We're going to stop this project!" I'm sick of it. It's old. Too old.

All of you, stop it. You aren't funny, you're old. If you want to do something new? Try making a new feature on the site that's completely ridiculous that it might become a new feature. If it doesn't, who gives a shit, at least you tried something new!

So in short, my opinion on April Fool's jokes on the internet is this: It's old. And the people who do them, suck.

    Double Rainboom · 5:15am

Double Rainboom. This project has been worked on for quite a while. A team dedicated to making this story come to life. A team dedicated to making this animation look beautiful. A team that was dedicated to its sound. As many of you know, I critique things here on FimFiction, and try to help out to the best of my abilities. If I see something wrong with the grammar or with spelling, I point it out and help. If there's a story flaw in there, I'll say how it worked for me. Sometimes I'll be in the minority, or in the majority. Here, I'm not sure where I stand. But I'll give you my honest opinion, because it's what you the fans and the makers of this thing deserve.

So to sum it all up? Meh.

For a fan creation, it isn't too bad. The animation was pretty nice, although we have seen people do a better job of it on other projects. I will say that it was the best thing about this one for me. The rest?

Let's talk about the sound. The voice acting here wasn't too bad. Twilight sounded like Twilight and Rainbow Dash sounded like Rainbow Dash with a cold. A lot of the times, it sounded like they were struggling to get a feeling of how they were supposed to sound in a scene. Sounding completely angered, when the scene called for slight annoyance. But that isn't the biggest problem with the sound. The biggest problem, is the lack of sound. There are points where the sound is muffled, and where big crash noises were called for, they sounded more like a muffle. But when the sound was audible, it worked pretty well. Unfortunately it just didn't stay consistent.

Story. Story is something people love about the new MLP. The grand adventure, the lessons they learn and the manner in which they learn it in. And fans have a Fanfiction site dedicated to Ponies. So, it should stand to reason that, with all these great resources, we can get a really good story out of this project that has been worked on for over a year. Reason took a vacation and left this story out to dry. The story is something that you'd find in my Fictional Crisis story, where Rainbow takes a McGuffin and travels to another universe. It's fanfiction, but not good fanfiction. I'm surprised they didn't pass the story through more people here that could have helped. And there are scenes here that could have been done a lot better. Like in the beginning, Twilight is explaining to Rainbow that she doesn't know if the potion is safe to drink. She then lists off what the potion could do for each of her friends. You could have Twilight go full nerd and explain to Rainbow how trials and experiments are necessary to see if a potion works or not, and how she shouldn't rush into things. Rainbow could bring up the counter argument that you just have to go for it if you want to make progress. Instead, Twilight mentions that it could make Rainbow fly faster and she just drinks it. Another thing I'd like to mention, is the fan wank in this thing. You see references to old Cartoons and other shows on the air currently throughout the episode. It's there so much that it became a detriment to the story. Stories can be well done in MLP, we've seen it so. It's something we all like. That's why it's such a shame that it's so lackluster here.

But, this does have a plus one to it's score.

There's no FUCKING singing here. I love it when there's no singing in an episode. I feel like it should be a treat, like it was in Season 1. But now it's become too much of a good thing.

    tl;dr

The fan project was not good. The effort showed, but it was mostly just fan wank. It's a shame really.

So many writers out there want to show their work to others. Now, this involves writing it, getting it checked, and then submitting it. Story is posted, and it's up for the world to see. The next step is for the readers to read it, give their opinion, and then leave. It's really that simple. But sometimes, the reader finds the story and gives it a like and leaves, or gives it a dislike and leaves. That isn't okay. If you read a story, and take the time to give it a like or dislike, you should also say what is good and what is wrong with the story. If you don't, the writer won't learn, and the writer won't evolve. So, the next time you see a story, give a comment telling them something about the story.

    I mean, this is okay:

"I think the story could use-"

    Or this is okay:

"The story is bad, try again-"

    Or even this is okay:

    "LOL NOOB?"

    But write something down!

You know people call me the optimist? I can see a bright side in any scenario you put in front of me. Because, in a dark world like this, we need to see good things happen. Good acts propel us to do great things. Sam Raimi and most of the crew did not get that memo, because there are only a few things in this movie that were remotely in the realm of good.

I'll get this out of the way now, this movie was bad. Really bad. Oz was directed by Sam Raimi, most of you will know him from directing the Spider-Man movies. Starring James Franco as the Wizard, we see him roll into town and never really improve. Most of you know how character development goes. The character is introduced, we see the character go through a journey and change either for better or worse depending on the plot. This asshole stays an asshole through the movie and with every action, stays an asshole.

And Mila Kunis. You guys know her as "Meg" from Family Guy, or the girlfriend from Ted. From what I see, she has the capacity to act, but hasn't reached the role she needs to really show it. Here, she plays the Witch of the West. And in this movie, she serves her role as the heart broken girl who transforms into the witch we see in "The Wizard of Oz". She did a lousy job too. Cheesing the role to the extreme.

Really, if you want to sum up the movie in one word or less, it'd be "Cheese".

Good points? I only need two fingers. First, Zach Braff. He played Oz's monkey. He did an excellent job with the role he was given. I would have given him the role of Oz, he's one of he most talent actors in that movie. But, they take great talent, and make him a monkey, a CGI monkey. And then you have Joey King playing a doll who lost her family to the Wicked Witches. She did a good job, and we should watch her career with interest.

Overall, don't waste your money. Pay for Netflix and watch something there. A "C-Movie" is more entertaining than this shit.
