Cave slimes

Cave Slimes are found in all cave networks in equestria. These land based Ctenophora are scavengers but are known to attack live prey if they perceive it as weak or injured. Another interesting note is that despite being carnivores they seem to enjoy a common mold found in the caves this mold when concentrated is highly toxic to ponies, the Slimes that eat the mold become the dreaded poison slime.

Forest Slimes

Due to its dark environment the Everfree Forest is home to at least one type of slime. Due to the dangerous nature of the forest, this ‘forest’ slime is much more aggressive and is considered to be an active hunter. A strange subtype of the forest slime is the poison joke slime. these slime cause a random effect on ponies, whether poisoning them, blinding or even disrupting magic.

The forest slime is the only creature able to  come in contact with the poison joke and actually  benefit from it.

Reproduction

Slimes, unlike other Ctenophora ,like most of the oceanic jellyfish,they  only have one life cycle rather than two or three  Living only in the medusa stage. and without water to aid in fertilization slimes must seek out a mate. Once two or more slimes join together they form a single large slime that will gorge itself on anything it can for the final process, splitting. Splitting is the process when the large Mate Slime is ready to divide, The creature splits into four to six slimes. Luckily the slimes reproduction is nowhere near the level of the parasprites.  

Known predators of slimes are Diamond Dogs and Dragons. Parasprites are known to swarm Forest Slimes on occasion.

Note: This researcher has obtained several Slime based recipes by Diamond Dogs, they claim that if you beat the remains of a slime with surgar it becomes a cool tasty treat. They call it a Flan.
