First thing is WHY IS THERE SO MUCH CLOP IN THE FEATURED BOX? I understand its been this way for a while, but it just seems to pile up and up and up. While I don't hate cloppers or have any real bias against them, the whole concept is just.... no. For me, anyway. Seeing this kinda stuff on the front page is... it's a little too much. There's like three stories that aren't clop. And, the whole tentacle on being featured? I mean.... at least it's not artwork, right? RIGHT?!?

Well, now that that is out of my system, I've been doing some thinking about Samurai Applejack. Overall, this was a story I never intended to be serious, something I could just do lightheartedly off to the side without putting as much effort into it as I tried to do with other fics. That philosophy hasn't really changed much, but I find it difficult to keep writing it. Time constraints are one thing, but another thing is the fact that, while I have it planned out, it's lacking the sort of "fun" element I had before and becoming more of a bore as I find myself struggling to come up with the chapters themselves. Kinda bothers me.

For this reason, there's a strong possibility the fic will be discontinued (completely canon, by the way, as the original Samurai Jack was cancelled, too). I apologize for anyone who was actually into the fic, but I just don't think I can complete it the way I'd like to. I am sorry.

I'd say "Maybe I should just stick to oneshots", because I like writing those and they actually do fairly well - hell, my one recently broke 100 upvotes with zero down - but, I'll probably end up attempting another train wreck multi-parter. So many ideas for both.

    Fic writing is 2spooky4me.

Well, it's finally 2013. How about that.

Keeping this blog post short, there won't be an update this Thursday like there usually is. School comes back tomorrow, and I've got to start working on theater things here, so I want a couple days to get used to things and figure out how to manage time to write the updates. Plus, gives me a bit more time to sit down and think this one out and type it. Think of it as sort of a bye week.

Updates will resume as they usually do next Thursday, otherwise known as the 10th of January. Happy New Year!

    Yours,

    Tuesday

Or what have you. Hope you're all having great holidays!

On another note, have some music, because who doesn't love Metallica done by a professional choir?

Speaking of music, anyone see Les Miserables yet? I just saw it today, and, I don't know. I liked it, but it wasn't as good for me as when I saw it onstage. Could be that I felt that Russell Crowe was an odd choice for Javert, or that drank too much soda during the movie. Don't know. It was good, but not great.

What is great is the Walking Dead game. Just got it. I was expecting point-and-click zombies, but instead I got point-and-click feels. Still totally worth it.

This was a really random blog post. I apologize, for I am tired as anything right now. I should probably start my updates before three hours til midnight Thursday. Oh, well.

    Cheers,

    Tuesday

    Apocalypse on Friday! Who's ready?!

But, besides that, I have a question concerning the story that I want all of your take on, that I thought of initially when I began this story, but I was reminded of again by a comment on the latest update:

Honestly though, why is it even a cross over really? I haven't seen all of the show, but so far the connections between this and that are thin. Why isn't this just it's own story? So far the only similarity's are really displaced in time and magic sword.
    (comment by y1fellas)

This statement is very true: this fic is almost nothing like how the actual series progresses. In any other case, this wouldn't be a crossover at all. However, I've been reluctant to change it because I just know if I don't have that there, someone will say "the premise is just like Samurai Jack".

Lately, I've thought about adding "Inspired by Samurai Jack" to the description, and getting rid of the crossover tag, but I'd like all of your opinions on this. I know, really stupid things, but they just irk me, you know? Rather get them out of the way.

    Cheers,

While I did mention in the last blog post the reasons for the title change, I noticed that the more vocal readers of the story didn't understand/like the change or feel it necessary. In hindsight, I see where they came from. Plus, I always referred to the story as Samurai Applejack anyway, so we might as well keep the original title, right?

And, I apologize for not updating last week. I had unexpectedly lost access to my computer for the week, but as of now, the updates should be coming in at their normal rate of Thursday nights EST (yes, I'm aware it's midnight Friday morning where I am when I updated this morning. I wasn't struck with inspiration until late). Also, that is my general rule for this story; you should expect an update on Thursday nights, unless I state otherwise. Since Christmas falls on a Tuesday, depending on how bored I am I may not take off that week like I was planning to and give you another update. We've got another 22 chapters to cover, so might as well, right?

Glad I could update again, though. I really enjoy writing fanfiction, especially this piece. While I used to think I wrote seriously, this piece is kind of my go-to just to write for the hell of it, considering I've got half a novel's worth of post-apocalyptic goodness for a real novel in the works, and it allows me to contribute to FiMFic like I love doing. Plus, this way my notifications aren't just story additions to "Ponies in the Real World" and Emerald Flight's blog posts. They're fun and all, but its kinda depressing to see three notifications and they all don't pertain to you.

    Cheers,

So, sometime this evening (EST, anyway) those of you reading may notice a couple differences in the story. For starters, the title will no longer be "Samurai Applejack" - the more I think about it, the more generic it sounds, since there ARE other fics with it. And, I'd like the story to be a bit more than just a crossover - while influenced by source material, it needs to have its independence intact. As such, I feel a more fitting title is needed. So, that's one.

Secondly is the cover art. While Samurai Applejack fighting Sombra, lord of darkness is without a doubt badass, I feel a bit weird using it. When I found the image through an EqD post, I couldn't find a deviantArt page associated with it, but it did inspire the idea of the story in the first place, so I put it up there as cover art. However, I haven't given the rightful author his/her deds - and, until I get around to doing that, I don't feel right not giving credit. Instead, I've whipped up a small bit of art myself - something simple, basically an Applejack from the show silhouetted against a white sun in a dusk setting. The picture itself is a take on the wire-run scene in "Blazing."

Description may change in the future, but I'm not going to mess with it too much for now. I'd like to invite readers in without making them think that they NEED to know Samurai Jack to understand the fic, because you don't need to. As stated in the last blog post, its all about CONCEPT. The description doesn't really seem as urgent to change as the title and cover art, so it'll remain that way for now.

Also, if the word count changes on some of the chapters, or for whatever reason it says I've updated even though there's no new chapter, it's probably because I'm fine-tuning and editing chapters a bit.One day (when I stop being lazy) I'll probably send this to /fic/, and get some criticism on it, as my writing obviously needs some work. One day. But, just letting you all know ahead of time, that would be the reason for a change - if there's another reason (i.e. "the whole chapter's plot has been changed" <- doubtful situation) you guys will know about it in some blog post or something.

Have a .jpg instead of a .gif. Because The Walking Dead was on not too long ago.

    Cheers,

Well, aren't you guys in for a fun ride? (Hopefully, anyway)

First things first: it was brought to my attention in the comments that there ARE other stories named "Samurai Applejack" (and here I thought I had done my research. Shame.) For this reason, the title will probably be changed in the next week or so. Either to "Samurai Applejack:" and then a subtitle, or some whole new title. Not sure yet. But, a heads-up.

As for length, I hope to update this at least once every week, but as many of you know, updating is almost never set in stone. Though, the next chapter is part way done, and this whole story is going to be planned out - no fillers. None. As of now there shall be 26 chapters, so those of you who're sticking around for the ride, don't expect to get off the train until May.

Alright, that should cover it, I think. And, as mentioned in the description, at least somewhat, the story is a crossover because of the concept behind it - being thrust into the future so as to not disrupt the past, and wielding samurai swords. This story will not follow the course of the episodes and there will be very little resemblance to any specific one, but more resemblance to the series as a whole.

    Have a gif.

    Cheers,

I'm midway through the second, but I've been itchin' to post this today and by Celestia I shall do it. If the submission takes long enough, I may have enough for the second chapter, but if not, eh, the story's set in motion, anyway.

It'll pass moderation when it passes moderation. But, it's been submitted! Yay for fanfiction.

Anyone catch that new season premiere? Fricking awesome, right? Sombra could've been much more developed, but hey, what can you do?

Alright, so I'm not dead, nor was I dead - I ran into a bit of a rut whenever I tried to write fanfiction, and as a result haven't been able to. I have, however, been working on my NaNoWriMo novel - which, according to the group of friends that I do nanowrimo with, is very good. If you're into the whole post-apocalyptic thing, and you guys want to read that, shoot me a PM and I can give you the link.

However, in terms of fanfic, the season premiere has given me the motivation to start writing again, and I cranked out 3,196 words of my latest one just now. I don't plan on publishing until I have the second chapter done (that earlier number being completion of the first) just to get some plot elements in there and stuff, but it shouldn't be too much longer. I'd say I'm going to submit it tomorrow night, so that should give you a general idea of when you'll see it up here. I'm really excited for this one.

I'm not going to give out too many details with this one, because I would like it to be somewhat of a surprise. It is a crossover, though, and incorporates elements from season three. A quote from it:

Spike became immobile in his descent, the Crystal Heart remaining still in the air. Sound stopped traveling and there was absolute silence, something unlike anything Applejack had ever experienced before.

King Sombra closed his glowing eyes firmly where he floated, standing atop his shadow platform. He reopened them and stared directly at Applejack.

“Foolish pony,” he stated coldly. “Are you not aware that your shadows contain not only your form, but your mind?”

Well, I hope it'll be good, anyway. Confidence!

    Cheers,

    9/30/12 ...Update? · 1:51am

Okay, so cancellation isn't really an update, but...

    ... I can explain.

See, shortly after I posted Thursday's blog post, the reviewer on Ponychan got back to me - and, well, things need adjustment. A LOT of things.

This is normally the point where I say "Fuck it" to the story, but a friend of mine is right in his attempt to stop me from bailing out on my less-than-completed ideas. So, I'm going to take this bad review in stride - because, he did give me pointers.

THIS WHOLE STORY is getting re-written. The basic plot element will be the same, but locations, POV, and other things will be changed. It will also be laid out ahead of time.

HF&AE will eventually make it back onto FiMFic, but will first probably be on GoogleDocs, and under a different name. Eventually, it will get back on here. I'll make sure that a blog post is sent out to all that fav'd this so they can read it, but, be warned - while it's the same story, it really isn't.

    ... yeah, that makes sense.

So, tl;dr - HF&AE's cancelled, will be re-written, will be re-posted, will let all of you know. As for re-posting date: TBA. I have no idea when I'll get around to it. Not too long in the future, though.

Also, did any of you go to Canterlot Gardens? I would've gone, but I'm on the OTHER side of Pennsylvania. Oh, well. Least I have BroNYcon... next year....

    Cheers, (and sorry!)
