> The Rise of Princess Derpy > by muffin > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1: The Spell > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hmm. The exchange spell - what's up with the title? It doesn't make any sense - 'changes who we are'?" said Twilight studying the complicated spell that was in the spell book. She was paying a visit to Ponyville for an afternoon, and was trying to read all the books that she hadn't read before. Maybe I'll just try the spell on Derpy, it'll have no effect on her - I'd tried the Proper Eyes spell and it didn't work at all! The princess trotted our of her home in Ponyville and met up with Derpy, who was busy stuffing mail into her mailbox. "Hiya, Twiligh- uh, I mean your Majesty. Spike has picked up all your mail and paid all your bills, no worry." greeted Derpy, bowing to the princess that was standing before her. "Thank you for notifying me, Derpy. Can I test you for a spell?" asked Twilight, smiling nervously, wondering if Derpy would accept. "Sure ya can! After all, that other one had no effect on me." "That's great! A million thanks. Now, stay still and don't fidget. It'll mess up the entire process. And... now!" A bright magenta beam shot out of Twilight's horn and onto Derpy's chest, creating a bright white flash of light that almost blinded the ponies nearby, including Twilight. However, a white beam shot out of the flash and it hit Twilight, causing her to be affected as well. It was only a few moments later when the light died out, revealing the two ponies. Twilight felt for any injuries. "Oh dear. This is a problem. I don't have a horn, only wings." said Twilight, touching her forehead. Derpy, her mane being slightly sizzled because of the magic, touched her forehead, trying to copy what Twilight had done. She discovered a hard, stiff bump on her head, and in surprise, wrapped her arms around her body to discover two feathery wings on either side! "I'm a princess?" thought Derpy aloud, stretching her large wings to the fullest. "I'm afraid you're an Alicorn." said Twilight sadly, eyeing Derpy's new self. "Really?! That's super great!" Derpy yelled, overjoyed, jumping off the ground and towards the castle. Twilight felt like facehoofing. I shouldn't have tried the spell on her. Lyra would have been a better choice - I think the Proper Eyes spell didn't work because she can't be like that. It's canon, thought Twilight as she scratched at the ground, thinking of a solution to the problem that she was facing right now. However, somepony interrupted her thoughts - Carrot Top. "Stop ruining my flowers! I worked hard on them, you know!" she screamed angrily, glaring at Twilight. "Don't speak to me like that! I'm the princ- wait, I'm sorry for ruining your flowers." "Good for you. Hey, I've seen you before - Twilight Sparkle, right? Aren't you an Alicorn? I saw you being affected by that light over there. Guess you're thinking of a counter-spell, huh? Well, I suggest you go to the Crystal Empire. That library's huge, compared to this one. Thanks for apologizing." "Okay, thank you for the suggestion." Twilight stuttered, before trotting off. Maybe Cadance and Shining Armour can help me find the cure there. Derpy had just arrived at the castle grounds in the interim. "This is great! I've never seen such a big castle!" chuckled Derpy, looking up. The sight was beautiful, full of fluffy white clouds on a baby blue sky. "I would absolutely love to meet the princesses! Hey look! Here's the entrance, I must be on the balcony. Maybe the princesses are inside. I'll go take a look." said Derpy, trotting into the castle with outspread wings. She really was excited to be an Alicorn - that meant more muffins! "Hullo! Anypony here? I'm Princess Derpy now!" she yelled as she entered the large castle. A soothing voice of Princess Celestia answered her question. "Please come in. We have so much for you, come into the dining room please." "Really? That's great! I'll let myself in, if ya don't mind!" "Not at all. Do you know the way? You've been eating at Pizza Hut for the last few days." "Er... could you lead me?" "No, I won't lead you. I'll take you." Derpy suddenly glowed with Celestia's magical aura and amazingly floated off the ground, round some sharp corners, through some doors and arrived at a large dining hall with the princesses waiting. "Welcome back, Twilight. Have a seat, we will have a magnificent feast prepared for you." motioned Luna, telling Derpy to sit down as she was going to explain that she wasn't the princess. "Er.. I have something to tell you. I'm no-" began Derpy, but Luna clamped her hoof over Derpy's mouth. "Shush! The food coming!" exclaimed Luna as the waiters came in carrying a pile of food covered by those fancy food covers. "Your food, ma'am. Hope you enjoy it." said one of the waiters, setting down a plate in front of Derpy. It certainly smelt delicious, and she couldn't wait to dig in. However, when he took off the cover she was dismayed to see what was on the plate - not a muffin, but instead a yucky asparagus covered with Thousand Island dressing and topped with a piece of parsley. "Thank you, sir." Derpy chuckled nervously, munching on the snack. "But do you have any muffins I could take a bite out of?" "Muffins? What are those things?" "They're like cupcakes, but much tastier." "What could be more tastier than cupcakes, princess? Don't worry, dessert is coming up in a second." "Okay then." The new princess felt like puking. Asparagus was not a treat, but the sisters seemed to be enjoying it, for they asked for seconds and thirds. "Are you enjoying this, Twilight? Asparagus is delicious, I must say. I suggest that you take off your Derpy Hooves costume, we have a meeting with the Mayor of Manehattan after this." advised Celestia as the waiter was taking her third asparagus. Derpy took a deep breath, afraid to tell the princess that she wasn't Twilight Sparkle. "I'm sorry, Princess Celestia, but this is not a costume. My name is Derpy Hooves, and Twilight cast a spell on me and we reversed bodies, her being a pegasus right now. I decided to explore the castle while she's preparing the counter-spell, but you invited me for the feast and I had to come. I just don't know what went wrong. A kajillion apologies to you." admitted Derpy, hanging her head. She'd wished she would be a princess longer, but sadly it had not happened. Princess Celestia just chuckled and grinned. "It's okay, Miss Derpy. Do not fret, we will let you stay in the castle until Twilight is ready." explained Celestia. Derpy's face lit up like a light and she gave Celestia a large bear hug. "Oh thank you, princess! I'll try not to do anything wrong here."
