> Suta's Stars > by TripleStripes > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The New Element > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I make my way back to my house from the observatory, my hooves quietly making contact with the ground, I don't want the Seekers to find me out past curfew. As I near my house, my light purple horn softly glows green and opens the door. I rush in, slam it back and bolt it shut. I let out a small sigh, and walk up the tiny staircase to my bed. I put down my saddlebag and stare out my small window, at the barely visible stars so similar to the one on my flank. I remember a time before the Overtaking, when I would watch them through my telescope, rising one by one at Princess Luna's command. Now the smog from factories and despair have coated the sky, even making the moon hard to see. It used to be such a happy place, Equestria. Full of ponies under the gentle ruling of Princess Celestia. But then disaster struck. Princess Celestia and Luna disappeared, some unseen evil took her and her sister's throne, and remains there now. The only ponies that have seen him either run the factories or recruit the Seekers, and they probably wouldn't be so friendly about telling you about the new ruler. The saddest part, the part that made every soul in Equestria lose all hope, is that along with the Princesses, Twilight Sparkle went missing. She stood as the Element of Magic in the legendary Elements of Harmony, and without her, evil and chaos can not be stopped. The other five of the Elements searched high and low for her- they were friends or something- for months with no luck. Word has it that in their search they saw some really disturbing evils, and now none of them are the same. I lie down on my bed and try to forget the cruel world we live in as I close my eyes. Hours later, I see a faint, flickering glow in the corner of my room "Su-Suta, Suta, Suta," said the figure, I rub the sleep from my eyes to get a better look. It's some sort of pony-like creature, gentle eyes and a long pastel mane. The face looks familiar, but then my vision falls to the cutie mark, a small blue crystal heart, surrounded with gold swirls. Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, Princess Celestia's niece, the last royal that is still known to be alive. "Please listen, I don't have much time. But something really bad is going to happen, and Equestria will not be able to survive it. You're the last one I think we can trust. You need to find it, the new element of magic, for the original..." A tear runs down her face, "has been disconnected. We don't know what it is, but the spark must be reignited, and you're the only one that's not afraid to light it," with that last word said, she disappears with a soft wisp, leaving behind nothing but a single teardrop on my dusty wooden floor. I remember reading before that Princess Mi Amore Cadenza was Twilight Sparkle's aunt-in-law, after she married her brother. I think he died as general in the war following the Overtaking. I start thinking about what she said, about Twilight being disconnected, obviously that meant she's officially dead, or was just corrupted so she doesn't represent the magic of friendship anymore. So, what? Now I have to go and ask every single unicorn what they think of friendship? Does it have to be a unicorn? And are they only in Ponyville, or anywhere? I let out a loud groan, and flop back down on my bed, deciding to handle this in the morning. ~ ~ ~ I wake up to the air-piercing factory siren, like I do every morning. I roll out of bed, and view myself in the cracked mirror. I levitate the wooden comb that I carved not long ago over near my head, and try to straighten my untamable navy blue mane, the light yellow streak hanging in between my eyes. I carry on with my morning as usual, bread and fruit rations for breakfast, sing a quick melody to keep my spirits up, and dusting. So much dusting. I wrap my emerald green scarf around my neck, covering a small scar from a while back, and adjust my tiny rectangular glasses on top of my snout, and walk out the door. Though instead of turning my usual left towards the large dome I spend my days recording the sky at, I head left, down to where there used to be some sort of farm. It is where all six of the other Element holders stay, as they are too paranoid to leave each other, in fear that they will be stolen as well. I wander through the acres and acres of dead trees, the fading red barn in the center of this mess of dead stock. as I get near, I go over what I was going to say. My name is Suta, and last night Princess Mi Amore Cadenza visited my home to inform that the Element of Magic is- suddenly I hear a bang, the barn door was slammed open, and before I know it I'm on the ground, the very strong hooves pressing hard on my chest, knocking the wind out of me. I stare forward, into the magenta eyes of my assaulter. "Who are you?! What do you want?! WHY are you TRESPASSING?!" I hear faint, scared whispers behind her, one quiet, one high-pitched, one western, and one... victorian. I use the little air I have to attempt to speak. "I... am S-Suta... and I-" "Suta?! Okay, this makes more sense, miss. Sorry for knockin' you down so hard," She steps off me, and waves the other four ponies towards me. "So, you're the one Cadence told us about. Well, I'm Rainbow Dash, Element of Loyalty," she is a bright blue pony with an amazing mane of six colours, but on of her wings was a darker blue, with stitches near the base "I'm Pinkie Pie, Element of Laughter," Said the one next to her. She was an unreal pink, both her mane and coat. nothing was really physically wrong with her, but her eyes kept... twitching. "Howdy, I'm Applejack, Element 'ta Honesty," She said calmly, really casual. One of her green eyes was covered with a patch. The next one I could barely even hear, she was so quiet. All I could make out was "Fluttershy," and "Kindness," "And I am Rarity, how do you do?" Said the dazzling white and purple one, a small bite out her ear missing. "Well, I'm fine. It is truly such an honour to meet you all. My name is Suta, and last night, I was visited by Princess Mi Amor- I mean, Princess Cadence, and I think you all know what she said. Now, if this is really true, you all are the best source to inform me, what do I look for in a pony to see if she is a possible candidate to be the Element of Magic? Any must-bees or can't-bees?" They all stare at me, confused about what I had just said. Then Rarity speaks up. "Oh dear, you must be mistaken! You don't have to find the new element holder, you have to find the new element! Darling, you are the Element of Magic, and you need the find where the newly created Harmony Stone is,"
