> Scratch That > by Hyperactive > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > But Mom! I don't wanna! > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "What?! How could ya? You know I hate classes!" Babs Seed was very angry at her mom. "But sweetie, it's only a DJ camp. You've been nagging us for months to be a DJ!" Her mom would point out. "Whatever. I'll hate dat, even if I have ta go." Babs blew her hair out of her face with a small puff and stormed off to her room. "By the way, it starts today. Gather your stuff and come to the taxi!" Her mom called. "What?! You never told me it was today! I aint got anythin' ready!" Babs grabbed a pencil, some paper and her signature hat. She ran out the door as fast as she could. She jumped in the taxi and glared at her mom. Her mom paid the taxi driver and Babs was gone, off into the country hillsides. Hillsides that were different from Manehatten. Babs took off her hat to examine it better. It was gift from her cousin Apple Bloom, a farewell gift from the first time she visited. The hat itself was a baseball cap. The bill was medium length, still providing eye protection from overhead sunlight. The hat was a light yellow hue with muted orange tints across the brim. She placed the hat back on her head and set her head against a leather pillow on the cart. Her eyelids very slowly drifted down and Babs soon fell asleep. The trip was a five hour drive, so there was a chance she'd be up again before the trip was over. Her eyes fluttered open. Babs was still in the taxi and it looked as they hadn't moved since she fell asleep. "Ah, wha' does it matta?" Babs shrugged and closed her eyes again, but not to sleep. She started humming her favorite road trip song. Yeah, I'm chillin on a dirt road, laid back swervin' like I'm George Jones. Smoke rollin' out the window, an ice cold beer sittin' in the console. Memory lane up in the head lights, it's got me reminiscing on them good times. I'm turning off of real life drive and that's right, I'm hitting easy street on mud tires! Back in the day Pott's farm was the place to go, load the truck up, hit the dirt road. Jump the barbed wire, spread the word. King in the can and the Marlboro man, Jack and Jim were a few good men. Where ya learned how to kiss and cuss and fight too, better watch out for the boys in blue! And all this small town he said she said, aint it funny how rumor spread? Like I know something y'all don't know, man that talk is getting old. You better mind your business, man watch your mouth, before I have to knock that loud mouth out. I'm tired of talking, man y'all aint listening, dem ol' dirt roads is what y'all missin. "Um.. miss? We've reached your destination." The stallion driving the taxi said. "Oh, thanks!" Babs grabbed her stuff and left the taxi. The building before her was an amazing sight. The outside walls were electric blue with darker blue stripes. The doors were a formal white. Babs Seed hitched up her hat and went in the door. A small mare peeked up from behind the counter and asked in a very quiet voice, "Seed, Babs?" Babs nodded her head and went further in the building until she reached a door marked DJ Lessons. She walked in the door and noticed a hook with her name on it. She hung her hat on the hook and sat down on the carpet. There was so many other fillies there and Babs didn't recognize any of them. There wasn't Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, or Scootaloo. Not even Diamond Tiara or Silver Spoon. This was going to suck! Then she heard a voice. It was familiar but not. Who was it? Babs looked up and saw the mare that would change her experience at the camp forever. Vinyl Scratch. "Hey everypony! I'm your teacher, so just call me Vinyl! No Miss Scratch stuff!" Vinyl was very energetic. "Anyways, I would like to introduce our newest mini DJ, Babs Seed!" All the other fillies clapped for her. Vinyl pulled Babs up and greeted her herself. "Hey kiddo! Nice to meet you! I'm excited to see if you actually wanna be a DJ. All these other fillies just sit around and do nothing all day!" Vinyl's attitude towards Babs was so kind. "Well, thank ya. I really like music and hope dat dis class will be awesome!" Babs smiled. Vinyl removed her sunglasses and looked Babs in the eye. "Hahaha! I can't be so serious! But really kiddo, this class will be good if you actually care to pay attention. It's not like a boring school class." Vinyl then held up her hoof for a bro-hoof and Babs did. Vinyl threw Babs an identical replica of her sunglasses and Babs put them on. "Welcome, Babs." Vinyl smirked and then dismissed the class. "If you'd like, we could spend lunch and recess chatting." Vinyl looked out the large glass window in the class. "Oh my gosh! Dat would be awesome!" Babs laughed. But her face very quickly got sad when she realized she had no lunch for the entire month, as that was how long the camp was. "Ey, don't worry kiddo! I got tons of food here for ya! C'mon, let's go!" Vinyl guided Babs out the door and down to the cafeteria. Inside, was a wonderland full of so many different meals. Babs ran up to one that stuck her fancy, various pastries all on one plate. Vinyl grabbed an energy drink and passed an orange soda to Babs. They sat down at a table and there was a brief moment of silence. "Hey Vinyl, I have a question." Babs suddenly rang out. "Yes kiddo?" Vinyl grinned. "Do you see DJ in me, or do you just to that to all new mini-DJs?" Babs asked. "Well, kiddo. Lemme tell ya, some fillies have absolutely no talent at all and I still tell em, 'Your great!' Even though they are terrible at what I do. But for you, it's different. I see potential in you! I can see you being a DJ when you grow up." Vinyl's voice got quiet. "Woah! Are ya a fortune teller or something?!" Babs got excited. "Hahaaha, no. I wish! But somehow, I can you someday taking my place." Vinyl smiled. "Oh. Ahahaaha! How would I take your place? Would you die? Please don't tell me you die!" Babs sported a tear. "Honestly, Babs, I have no clue. I hope I don't die, 'cause I'd love to jam out forever!" Vinyl Scratch put on her sunglasses and instructed for Babs to do the same. Two fillies walked by and started laughing at Babs. "Excuse me?! This here filly has more talent in her body then the both of you plus seven other prissy little fillies! I'm sick of this rude behavior!" Vinyl just lost it. Snapped. Went berserk. "Calm down, Vinyl! They are just stupid, what can you expect?" Babs laughed. The fillies got scared and ran out of the cafeteria. "Sorry. I hate prissy girls who act like their better just 'cause they have their ugly little mark." Vinyl shook her head, causing her mane to sift from side to side. Babs attempted to cover up her flank with her tail. "You n-noticed!?" Babs was sick with worry. This was her getaway from bullying for one month, but what if it continued here? "Don't worry, kiddo. It means you're special. I didn't get mine until I was a few years older than you and oh boy was I teased for it. All it means is you can still figure yourself out. All them other fillies' are talented in.. what? Being rich and spoiled? Haha. Right..." Vinyl laughed. Babs held up her hoof for a brohoof and Vinyl returned it. "I'm so excited for your future, kiddo." Vinyl smirked. > Spikes > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vinyl Scratch and Babs Seed were the best of friends. They both hated prissy rich girls, so they both got mad at them. "Vinyl, please tell me dat there's not gonna be a war that makes you die or somtin!" Babs was still worried about Vinyl dying in some tragic event. "Don't worry kiddo! Oh! Have you even seen your mane? It's just like mine!" Vinyl handed Babs a mirror. "Woah! Awesome!" Babs smirked at her mane. She grabbed her sunglasses off the table and put them on. Vinyl laughed and put hers on. "Dis is awesome, Vinyl. I thought dat dis camp was gonna be borin'! But you make it a lot better than I expected." Babs smiled. "Hey, kiddo. You should be getting to class, m'kay? I'll be down in a minute." Vinyl told Babs. "Alright!" Babs ran down the hall and back in the classroom. "Oh! Look who it is! Teacher's pet!" A small filly with a pale blue coat and a dusty yellow mane sneered. "TEACHERS PET! TEACHERS PET!" More fillies were mocking Babs. They pushed her into a corner and then began kicking her, really hard. "Ow! Guys! Stop it! It hurts!" Babs cried out in pain. "Nope! You're a teacher's pet!" A tall filly with a cream coat and muted orange hair pulled into a braid laughed. Suddenly, music began playing. The music was electronic, but in a way it was dark and creepy. All fillies except Babs turned in fear. They all heard the voice that terrified them. "WHAT are you doing?! You other fillies need to leave this extraordinary filly alone or I'm going to bash your brains in." Vinyl walked in the door. Her hair was flying as she just ran down the hall. What the other fillies didn't know was that Babs Seed and Vinyl Scratch had earpieces, so they could hear everything the other was saying. So Babs' yells of pain wear all heard by Vinyl. "VINYL! I'm so glad you came! I have a nosebleed!" Babs cried. Vinyl walked over to the other fillies and her voice got low. "You girls are going home. Don't get happy, because it comes with a permanent suspension from all professional events. No more going to special weddings. And your parents know if you girls get kicked out, you all lose 100 bits. Guess who is getting about 3 000 bits?" Vinyl snickered. All the fillies ran out the door in tears, never to return to the school again. "Um, miss? I wouldn't ever bully my best friend." A short filly stepped out from the darkness. She had a pale coat and a curly red mane. "Who are you?" Babs asked. 'Twist. I'm from Ponyville!" She giggled. "Oh, well... nice to meet you! Thanks for coming for me!" Babs grinned. "Unfortunately, I'm leaving today..." Twist's voice trailed off. "What?!" Babs was devastated. "Sorry." Twist frowned and then walked out the door. "Don't worry kiddo. I'll make sure you have a good time." Vinyl smirked. "Alright, I hope I can believe you." Babs wasn't confident. "You can." Vinyl winked. They walked outside and into a disco a thousand yards away. "Could you play this?" Vinyl held up a simple record. "Yeah." Babs nodded. "Let me see." Vinyl handed the record to Babs and waited. "Alright." Babs played it almost perfect. "Woah. Pretty awesome!" Vinyl laughed. "Thanks!" Babs blushed. They trotted out of the disco. Babs and Vinyl spotted a moss covered bench and sat down. "Vinyl, I have a question. How-OH GOD KILL IT WIT' FIRE!" Babs pointed to a Snails on the ground. "Huh?" He asked. "AIE! It can speak!" Vinyl whimpered. She began poking Snails with a stick. "Sheesh, I'll leave! If you guys hate me that much!" Snails ran away. "Alright, back to my question. What do you think will be my cutie mark?" Babs asked. "Well, I really dunno. Hmm.. I have an idea! Why don't we set up your own DJ studio so you can benefit from this program instead of always doing nothing?" Vinyl burst out. "Sure. Can we a DJ party to give it a kick-start?" Babs got an idea to accompany Vinyl's. "Rad idea!" Vinyl motioned for Babs to follow her. They ran back to the school and ran to Babs' dorm. Babs grabbed her special hat and looked at it. Then she stopped looking at it and put it on. Vinyl handed her a pair of sunglasses to compliment her hat. She grabbed some sleek black headphones and slipped them on. "I think dis looks cool." Babs smirked. Vinyl led her to a small room. The walls were blank. "I think dis is boring. It needs... color!" Babs got an evil grinned. Vinyl jokingly rolled her eyes and went to a different room to get some paint and paintbrushes. She returned with two colors. Vibrant pink and bright brown. "My mane and coat colors!" Babs was incredibly surprised. "Well, it is your room!" Vinyl smiled. Babs grabbed a large roller and dipped it in the brown paint. She then began painting one wall completely brown. Vinyl grabbed another rolled and dipped it in the brown to help Babs with her wall. They did each wall until all four walls were painted an unusual bright brown. "Now, we gotta wait for it to dry. So we can do the finishin' touches." Babs laughed. Soon, the paint dried. Vinyl assisted Babs in painting the corners of the room the vibrant pink color. "Vinyl! Dis looks awesome!" Babs smiled. "I know! But now, to start the real job. Playing music!" Vinyl put on her sunglasses and ran out to grab some old records. "Here, I got you these!" Vinyl put three records on the floor. They were all notably hard to play. "Perfect!" Babs ran over and began playing the first one. Every scratch she did, Vinyl flinched. Eventually she played the entire thing. "Nice! You need to practice, practice until you could play it backwards in your sleep!" Vinyl walked out, leaving Babs to practice the record. Suddenly, a large cannon knocked through the wall, nearly hitting Babs. "Vinyl!" She cried. Vinyl ran as fast as she could. Her mane lost it's spiky form and became long and straight, but Vinyl Scratch didn't have time to care. "Babs!" Vinyl jumped in front of an arrow that was about to hit Babs. "VINYL!" Babs yelled. The arrow pierced her stomach. Vinyl's body flopped over like a cloth doll. "Vinyl... are you... gone? Out of my reach forever?" Babs sniffled, then dropped a few tears. "Vinyl.. my friend.. my, my everything. Gone with one bow.." Babs began crying a river of tears that seemed as if it could flow forever.
