> Fluttershy Plays Tetris > by FluttershyAllTheWay > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm back! I had a great holiday with my mate. Whilst on holiday, he became incredibly addicted to a certain game, one that I'm writing about. His insatiable addiction allowed me to come up with this stupid idea. If you dislike this idea or think it sucks, just message me on fimfiction. I can rehaul the chapter/write a different story about something else. Anyway, on with the story! *************** "Lalala!" Fluttershy trilled emphatically. She had always been enthusiastic about cleaning, and now was no exception. As she daintily waltzed her way around her cottage dusting shelves and primping up the area, Angel just looked over at her with a look of general distaste and disinterest. With a heaving sigh, Angel rotated around and plodded off to her bed, fed up. All of a sudden, a knock echoed from Fluttershy's door and resonated around Fluttershy's cottage inexplicably loudly, a knock that surprised Fluttershy beyond belief. She jumped where she stood and couldn't stop herself accidentally letting a gentle but frail squeak from escaping her mouth. This wasn't right: almost no-one came to her cottage, so who could it be..? With her back hooves quivering a little in fright, Fluttershy softly padded towards her door and reached out a shaking hoof to the handle. Opening it a crack, Fluttershy peeked round the edge of the door nervously to check what stood in front of her. A few brief seconds later, Fluttershy forced her eyes open so she could see what stood at her door; what she saw surprised her no end - it was Derpy! "Hey Fluttershy!" Derpy awkwardly announced in her oddly out of place but strangely familiar voice. "I've got a package to deliver you from DerpyMail!" Fluttershy prised the door open and greeted Derpy with a smile. She couldn't help but admire Derpy for the way she remained strong and enthusiastic, despite all the torture and discrimination she had witnessed throughout her life. "Oh, Umm, thank you..." Fluttershy softly commented, ensuring she was being polite to Derpy at all times. She was a pony of morals, even if she was shockingly timid. Derpy rummaged through her mailbag until she clasped her hooves on a solid package. Fluttershy watched as the aforementioned package rose through the piles of letters and was handed over to her. With a grateful nod and another notion of thanks, Fluttershy accepted the package into her own hooves. ************** Closing the door behind her deftly, Fluttershy plopped the mysterious package onto the floor. It was about the size of one of Twilight's magic books and weighed a similar quantity as well. Perhaps Twilight had sent her something to read? Fluttershy gently put the package down on her table with the intentions of not opening it until tonight. Eventually though, curiosity overwhelmed Fluttershy: she had to open this package and discover the goods that were tucked neatly inside. After a minute or two of extensive struggling with the unnecessarily thick packaging, Fluttershy had fought her way into her gift. However, there was a problem with this anonymous present: what in the hay was it? It was... a block. A blue one, to be exact. There were pushable things on the front that hooves could manipulate (With great difficulty...), a screen towards the top and a removable object that fitted perfectly into the provided slot. The odd object was scribed with the word "Tetris". Now Fluttershy had never been this confused in her life. What in Equestria was this... thing? What in the hay does "Tetris" mean? There was only one solution: ask Twilight! She was a clever pony; there was no doubt that she would have a conclusion to come to over this mysterious object. ************** "What in the name of Celestia is that?" Twilight queried. Fluttershy could do nothing but inwardly sigh, ensuring that Twilight didn't notice. Twilight knew nothing about it and her intellect was unparalleled in Ponyville! However was Fluttershy going to find out what the chunk of mechanical engineering was? "Sorry Fluttershy, but there is no way I could tell you what that is. I guess you'll have to discover it on your own..." Twilight stated boldly before slipping into a sigh. Twilight loved helping her friends, and failing to do so depressed her a little: she felt like a complete failure. Fluttershy picked up on her friend's attitude and was quick to react. "Oh no, it's okay! I'll find out myself." She reassured Twilight whilst wearing her most convincing beam, causing Twilight to smile as Fluttershy departed Twilight's library. ************** With a thick sigh, Fluttershy lay down the object softly on the floor of her cottage and started at it for a while. Just then though, Fluttershy saw something, something she had missed previously. Above the screen was the text "Game boy Colour". After putting two and two together, the imminent conclusion that Fluttershy came to was that the name of this object was Game boy Colour. This new revelation sparked something in Fluttershy - there must be something she missed. Fluttershy picked up the Game boy Colour and rotated it slowly in her hooves, inspecting every crevice. It was a comfortable thing to hold; almost as if it was designed to be hold in such a way. It wasn't long before Fluttershy discovered a precarious slider. It's existence was enough to cause the now insatiably curious Fluttershy to flick it up without thinking. Instantaneously, Fluttershy was engulfed in a brilliantly bright light. To boot, the Game boy Colour was beeping constantly. The screen flickered on and the word "Tetris" rose onto it in all its majesty. Fluttershy was in awe at the machine that worked in front of her. In a few seconds Fluttershy figured out that the pressable things on the front controlled the Game boy Colour. It wasn't long before Fluttershy begun her first game of Tetris. First maybe, but definitely not last. She liked this game; the self-satisfaction given from it was amazing. All she had to do now was learn how to do it all correctly and discover which button controlled what. All the colourful shapes enticed Fluttershy - each different shape had been assigned a certain colour: this allowed Fluttershy to quickly pick up on each shapes distinguishing characteristics. The shapes fell at a gentle and controllable pace, before touching the bottom of the screen and clicking into place. It was late, Fluttershy knew, but she was engrossed in "Tetris". Sleep wasn't an option: Tetris all night was already a unanimous winner in Fluttershy's mind. ************* The Game boy Colour seemed like a good discovery to Fluttershy at present, but little did she know of the destruction and chaos it would cause her and everything around her in the very near future. Only time would tell what would happen to Fluttershy and her surroundings. ************* If you did read this, thanks! Constructive criticism is welcomed with wide forehooves. I will be writing the next chapter over the course of the weekend, so expect it then. -FluttershyAllTheWay > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW SCHEDULE: Fluttershy Plays Tetris on Thursdays, New story on the weekends. I hope to keep this up for as long as I can. :3 So, I wrote the first chapter in third person but focusing on Fluttershy and her thoughts. This chapter focuses mainly on Twilight in the same way as I did with Fluttershy last chapter. Thanks for all the feedback on the first chapter, be it positive, negative or just plain constructive. Thanks to all! Without further ado, I will get to writing. *************** "Fluttershy? Are you home?" Twilight crowed as she hammered her hoof against Fluttershy's cottage door. There was no answer. With a deft sigh, Twilight turned around and began to trudge her way back to the library. It had been three days since Fluttershy was last spotted in Ponyville: that was the day in which Fluttershy visited her to check about what the contents of her mysterious package were. Although Twilight was forced to disappoint Fluttershy with her lack of knowledge on the subject of quaint machines, Twilight, being the good friend she is, was determined to discover the origin of this piece of equipment and inform Fluttershy on the vital information. She had spent the last few days researching amd had uncovered what this obtruse block was. One problem lingered though, Fluttershy had disappeared off of the face of Equestria recently! Sighing again, Twilight retraced her steps back to the library. Perhaps she could try again tomorrow to contact Fluttershy. "NOOOOOOO!" Just then, a long and exasperated shout of pain, sadness and anger echoed outwards from Fluttershy's cottage. It reached Twilight instantly and in fear, Twilight spontaneously darted back to Fluttershy's cottage. She had to ensure Fluttershy was alright. "Fluttershy! I know you're in there! Answer your door!" Twilight hollered, shouting inexplicably loudly to ensure that her words were audible to Fluttershy. Still, no answer. Anger was building up inside Twilight. Initially, it was all just concern for Fluttershy's well-being, but with Fluttershy being so ignorant and not answering her door deliberately, Twilight could not contain her frustration. In mild fury, Twilight began bashing Fluttershy's door down, to such an extent that it was looking like it would shatter under all the physical pressure. Just then, Fluttershy's door gently swung open, revealing her incredibly messy cottage. It was so abnormal to see it in such a state, Twilight thought. Usually, Fluttershy was a pony who greatly enjoyed the endeavour of cleaning her cottage. It was then when Twilight fell back into the generic swing of reality in Ponyville. Her balance was off from the position she had poised herself in to allow knocking; promptly, Twilight collapsed forwards towards the absent minded Fluttershy who was focused on the chunk in her hooves. She didn't even give a Twilight a glance as Twilight careered directly into Fluttershy: she was so engrossed in the Game boy Colour to even notice. But then, as both ponies who were entwined with each other hit the floor of Fluttershy's cottage, it flew. The crushing impact of hitting the floor caused Fluttershy to loosen her grip on the Game boy Colour. Due to the momentum created, the Game boy Colour was free from Fluttershy's grip and it soared across the room before smashing against the floor with a inexplainable sound. Fluttershy reacted instantaneously. With an ear-spiltting wail, Fluttershy jumped up and scuttled her way across the room to the Game boy Colour. A small crack was visible on the blank, green screen and the buttons were extremely loose. Scrapes and scratches were distributed around the Game boy Colour's exterior case, but they clustered more around the corners. With a high-pitched whine, Fluttershy slowly picked up the Game boy Colour and begun cradling it in her forehooves, sniffling as she did so with tears forming in her eyes. Twilight glanced up fro her sprawled position on Fluttershy's floor. She had briefly been knocked unconscious by the impact of hitting the floor. One hoof was on her head to compensate for the dizziness she felt and the splitting headache she was experiencing, whilst the other was rested gently on the floor to ensure Twilight could maintain a steady balance. As her eyes focused, she noticed Fluttershy and was taken aback by the expression laden across her face. Anger. An insatiable volume of anger was evident on Fluttershy's face, taking Twilight by surprise. After a few seconds of staring at Fluttershy's face (which was screwed up with rage) nonchalantly, Twilight realised why Fluttershy was angry. The answer lay deftly in Fluttershy's hooves. "You! You! Look what you've done!" Fluttershy shouted in an almost desperate voice. It was as if she was clutching at straws to blame someone for the accident. Immediately, Twilight deserted all feelings of compassion for Fluttershy and her Game boy Colour and instead gained anger and hatred. "Me?" Twilight screeched in disbelief. "I haven't done anything! If you weren't so addicted to the stupid game it would be okay!" "Oh, so it's my fault?" Fluttershy rhetorically queried. Her voice was dripping with sarcasm. "Ugh! Fluttershy! Stop it! Be yourself and put that menace of a machine down for once! It's having nothing but a negative impact on everypony, including yourself!" Twilight pleaded. It was her turn to sound like she was desperate. Fluttershy was metaphorically struck by that comment - she was well aware that each and every word was true. However, Tetris was too good! What to do? With a quick look to her side, Fluttershy just meakly whispered "Get out..." to Twilight. She couldn't bare to look her good friend directly in the eyes. "Huh?" Twilight asked, trying to get Fluttershy to repeat her almost inaudible last statement. "Get out!" Fluttershy screamed at the top of her little lungs. Twilight's only reaction was to sigh deeply and loudly before turning tail and heading back to the library... Again. *************** "Phew." Fluttersy emitted a deep sigh when she saw that the Game boy Colour still functioned. She had spent the last few days doing nothing other than immersing herself into games of Tetris. The basics had been mastered and advanced techniques were learnt. Fluttershy felt like the Tetris-Lord. It had been hectic last game: all the blocks had been at the top of the pixelly screen. Fluttershy was only a few lines off her top score, but her hoof had slipped on the awkward button and everything had gone pear-shaped - causing Fluttershy to let slip a painful cry; one which must have attracted Twilight to the scene. One game. One game would suffice tonight, Fluttershy decided after much thought. She hadn't slept since she had acquired the Game boy Colour: perhaps tonight was a practical solution to this sleepless drought. An extensive and intense game later, Fluttershy lay down the Game boy Colour on her bedside table and snuggled in her inviting bed for a repectable night's sleep. Things did not go to plan though: Fluttershy's sleep was awkward and incredibly interrupted. As soon as Fluttershy shut her eyes, each and every vibrant tetris shape floated past her eyes, each unique in its own special way, coming closer. It was as if the shapes were coming down on top of Fluttershy, crushing her against the bottom of the screen. This same horrific nightmare recurred each time Fluttershy attempted to drop off. Another depressing sigh later, Fluttershy just gave in and picked up the Game boy Colour. She had a new record to set. *************** Done! Next chapter will be next Thursday. Expect my new fic this Weekend, probably Saturday I will post. I don't know when it will get up on Fimifction though. Once again, constructive criticism is always welcomed. Finally, a gigantic thank you to RarityMyLove for making me a Fimfiction profile picture. He's drawing a detailed Fluttershy. You'll all see soon. :D Bye for now! -FluttershyAllTheWay > Chapter 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm back everypony! I hope you all have had or are having a lovely Christmas at the present moment. I, myself have had a nice Christmas: family visited and it was enjoyable overall. Either way, less delaying: on with my unfinished stories! ********************* "Fluttershy? Answer the door!" Twilight shouted in pure rage. She had more than enough of Fluttershy's evasive behaviour over the last week and the argument that had taken place last week hadn't exactly eased Twilight into restful sleep for the nights that had followed after the incident. Twilight's fury was multiplying at an alarming rate. Although the initial incentive of her visit was simply to rebuild broken bridges, the lack of respect Fluttershy was displaying by not answering her door had escalated Twilight's anger tenfold and evolved her reasoning to something out of pure chagrin. Twilight proceeded to hammer Fluttershy's cottage door with all of her might and strength. In a slight change of events, Fluttershy's cottage door decided against resisting the extreme duress it was being put under and instead chose to collapse and cave inwards, much to Twilight's disdain. The unexpected occurance of Fluttershy's door fracturing had affected Twilight in many ways but the two primary ones were a sharp feeling of guilt for damaging somepony else's property haphazardly and a significant feeling of joy from being able to enter Fluttershy's province: something she was being denied previously. Just one thing remained absent on Twilight's checklist that Spike had prepared for her earlier for this expedition: she must find out all the details about Fluttershy and her "Gameboy Colour". The findings from this trip had to be evaluated immediately: furthermore, extensive researching had to commence about pony psychology and its relation to the Gameboy Colour. "Let's find Fluttershy." Twilight boldly proclaimed with great determination as she began her search of Fluttershy's cottage. ************************** It wasn't exactly a long search that Twilight had to endeavour. Simply put, the search required only a light trot to Fluttershy's bedroom and the opening of her door. (The one that wasn't broken.) Either way, that is irrelevant. *Ahem* Moving on... ************************** The sight Twilight experienced when she opened Fluttershy's door was one that couldn't be described simply. The most basic way it could be phrased was to say that on any other (less abnormal) occasion, the sight would have been a significant shock to Twilight. However, under the current circumstances, this view was something Twilight had come to expect from the Fluttershy she was currently experiencing. This aforementioned Fluttershy was not actually visible to the average pony's eye. Instead, what the eye would receive was a tremendously messy room with a bed central of it. The bed contained a mysterious lump that sat in an upright but arched position. This "lump" clearly hadn't repositioned itself in a while: cobwebs were laden across the sheet neatly, stringing up to the walls. It really was an odd sight to see Fluttershy's cottage not spotless; she had always prided herself a little inside on her cleaning abilities. Twilight, on the other hand, was aware of this foreign bump's identity. With no caution but a stealthy style, Twilight crept over to Fluttershy's bedside and begun performing a delicate and silent arc over Fluttershy's head to grasp onto the covers firmly. With utmost haste and without a care for potential consequences, Twilight yanked Fluttershy's sheet off of her spindly and underfed Pegasus body, over her head and onto the floor. The reaction she gained was far from positive... *************************** "Aaaah!" Fluttershy shrieked faintly (a combination of her being extremely timid and her lack of enthusiasm over the past week caused this juxtaposition.). With a deep gasp, Fluttershy collapsed backwards and tipped off her bed, landing daintily on her head. The hard and unforgiving wooden floor didn't make for much of a soft landing, but Fluttershy didn't complain. Having her eyes away from the dastardly box of evil for the first time in a week had caused Fluttershy instant sleep. She had been deprived of it over the last week consistently and this had led to dire consequences. Despite Twilight's previously enraged mood, even she had to admit that a sleeping Fluttershy, upside-down and standing on its head was definitely a very cute picture indeed. This point was further nailed home by Fluttershy's adorably soft snoring. It was so delicate, like the intricate designs you might find on an especially fancy wedding cake. It truly was sight that made Twilight's heart melt. But that's a story for another time. Back to the story! *************************** Suddenly, a sly grin crawled its way over Twilight's face: there were many things she could do if Fluttershy was unconscious... (Nothing dirty! Jeez, guys!) With pure and intense concentration shimmering over Twilight's face, she deftly resurrected Fluttershy from her sleepy but obscure position and placed Fluttershy comfortably down on her bed. With a quick and simple spell, Twilight fluffed up Fluttershy's quilt and gently positioned it over Fluttershy to ensure she was receiving maximum comfort. The warm fuzzy glow Fluttershy was emanating as she lay pleasantly in her bed and her long and cheerful smile she wore guaranteed to Twilight that Fluttershy was cosy. Now, Twilight thought, for the sly part. Using her magic, Twilight gently and silently levitated the Gameboy Colour off of Fluttershy's bed and delicately tip-hoofed her way out of Fluttershy's bedroom, still carrying the Gameboy Colour. As soon as Twilight had exited Fluttershy's bedroom, she slowly and precisely shut the door so it would not alarm Fluttershy. Once the door was fully closed, Twilight dropped off the tips of her hooves and let out a relieved sigh. She had done it: mission complete. Now all she had to do was to investigate more about the mystique the Gameboy Colour held and what perplexing puzzles it offered to Twilight. It was time to commence researching! With that all said, Twilight began her steady but satisfied trot home to the library. Twilight beamed uncontrollably; she felt as if she had accomplished a significant amount today. It had been a step forward in her grand scheme... *************************** Well, that's all for now guys! It's still Christmas day and I have a lot things I'd love to be doing now such as spending time with family. I just wanted to a bit of writing first to blow off excess staem and built up "lactic acid" from not exercising the 'Writing Muscles', you know? Additionally, I just fancied some creative writing. I will write the first proper chapter to Resurrection as soon as humanly possible, believe me. I'm busy over Boxing Day though, so don't expect it then. Either way, bye for now and Merry Christmas! -FluttershyAllTheWay > Chapter 4 (Finale!) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nothing to say here aside from the next thing I post will be my Paranoia sequel. I just cannot wait to write that damned story. That is pretty much all, but stick around to the end for some good news and a treat of a story link! ******************************* "Aaaaaaaah!" A booming shriek emanated across Ponyville. The source? Fluttershy's cottage. It was the morning after Twilight's 'visit' in which she had 'acquired' a certain Gameboy Colour. Fluttershy had slept the whole night through, courtesy of the absence of her addiction: the Gameboy Colour. She hadn't been aware that it was missing until the morning. Fluttershy had arisen refreshed and restored, happy to have caught some shut-eye. After a decent night of sleep, what better to do than play the game which she was overly addicted to and cause herself many more sleepless nights? But after a brief search of her bed and her room, no Gameboy Colour had been present anywhere. This was obscure: Fluttershy hadn't misplaced the Gameboy Colour! Suddenly, realisation soared in: Twilight had been here last night... Twilight wanted her to put the Gameboy Colour down... Twilight must have stolen it! Fluttershy was outraged! How dare Twilight commit such dastardly crimes! Theft was illegal! Well, she wasn't having any of it. Fluttershy may be timid, but when it came things she valued intensely she wasn't afraid to lose her cool in one drastic outburst. With a loud and resonating battle cry, Fluttershy applied her menacing face and ran out of her not-so-present door. Her destination? The library. Fluttershy had a crucial rescue mission to complete. Meanwhile, at the library, Spike was tidying up and doing chores for Twilight. It was rather peculiar to Spike that Twilight still wasn't awake yet: on a usual day, Twilight would have been up long before Spike had even finished his delusional daydreams about him proposing to Rarity in romantic fashion. This thought provoked a short sigh from Spike - one day his dream would come true. "Perhaps I should check if everything is okay with Twilight?" Spike audibly thought to himself, not realising he had said it aloud. With a brisk dump of all the tidying equipment and his frilly apron, Spike headed upstairs to Twilight's bedroom to check what the lack of presence entailed. Spike reached Twilight's door and had his hand curled tightly into a fist, ready to knock gently so he could alert Twilight of his presence. Just as he moved his fist backwards and poised himself for the forward motion, a splintering smash echoed through the library - coming from downstairs. "Give me back my Gameboy Colour!" Fluttershy roared forcefully as she made her entrance. She had already battered down the door; her presence must be clear to all the inhabitants of the Library now. Aside from the twitches of rage, Fluttershy's ear twitched suddenly as she heard a very deft and delicate noise - something of a mute thud. The noise was coming from the floor above and seemed to be approaching Fluttershy, drawing ever closer. Almost instantaneously, a tremendously confused Spike came into Fluttershy's field of view. He was bounding down the stairs, waddling as fast as his little baby legs could carry him. His face wore an expression that was purely bemused. Fluttershy's moment of rage was sucked out of her immediately; replaced by empathy for poor little Spike who looked very concerned and bewildered. "What's wrong, Spike?" Fluttershy asked softly. "Well, Twilight still isn't up and it's half past one! She's always up by now!" Spike answered, his voice dripping with concern and worry. "That and I want to know what caused you to do that." Spike added. He clearly wasn't amused by Fluttershy's 'extravagant' entrance. "Well, Umm..." Fluttershy bashfully replied. She felt rather guilty for her thoughtlessness and recklessness. "So why exactly are you here?" Spike queried openly. "Twilight 'extracted' my Gameboy Colour from me without my permission..." Fluttershy answered simply and softly. "Well, why don't we both solve our problems? Let's go ask Twilight what's up and try and get her to return your goods!" Spike suggested. Fluttershy merely nodded in mutual agreement. The two friends headed their way up the stairs of the library, reaching Twilight's bedroom door before they had the chance to utter a thing to each other. With one gentle and surreptitious shove, Spike opened Twilight's door. Once the crevice was big enough for Fluttershy and Spike to slip into, they both wormed their way into their room. Gracing their eyes in front of them was a sight they both never expected to see... A big ominous lump was situated in the centre of her bed, covered by the bed sheet. The lump was arched slightly, as if it were engrossed in something contained in it's hooves. Cobwebs were clearly visible, draping from the sheet and stretching out to the walls and ceiling. Spike was bewildered by the site and a little frightened by its mysterious presence. Fluttershy, however, simply facehoofed: she knew exactly what this symbolised. The two creatures in Twilight's room could hear a strange tune at a low volume: it was the Tetris theme music. Looks like another pony has fallen prey to the Gameboy Colour and its dastardly deeds... ****************************** Well, that's one story cleared up and completed. Happy days! I know, the ending was pretty obvious but oh well. I hope you enjoyed it and stick around for more from me! I should probably mention the influence Church had on this chapter: influence beyond his recognition. The vocab is not so wide in this chapter because I want to make my stories flow more. Reading Church's story was quite eye-opening: he used some fairly basic language but the story flowed so well and was brilliant. As a consequence, I am going to cut down a little on complex language so I can ensure my stories flow accordingly. Finally, watch out for the Paranoia sequel: that'll be the next thing I will write and post. Happy New year! -FluttershyAllTheWay
