Prologue: Project: Jurassic Everfree
Equestria. 65 million years ago. The beginning of Discord's reign.
Discord motioned for as many dinosaurs to board the ship he had made for them. Not much time was left, as the island was only a few minutes away from erupting and being destroyed for good. Discord had seen too many dinosaurs die while he did nothing and he was determined to ensure none of the dinosaurs on the island were left behind.
"Hurry, get on the ship, now!" Discord told them.
The ship contained many species. There was Tyrannosaurus Rex, Velociraptor, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Pteranodon, Parasaurolophus, Allosaurus, Carnotaurus, Baryonyx, Apatosaurus, Ankylosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Sinoceratops, Stygimoloch, Spinosaurus, Indominus Rex, and Indoraptor. Discord sensed that the volcano was about to erupt. He teleported to the lagoon and all the other bigger water spots and saved the Mosasaurs. He noticed a stampede heading to the coast and teleported ahead to warn his team.
"Run!" he told them. "Run!"
They began running as the stampede came down the hill. They ran through some trees and eventually hid behind a log. Suddenly a force bumped into the log. They looked and saw it was Carnotaurus.
"RROOAARR!!" it roared.
Discord slowly and quietly snuck around the gyro rock. His wife, Carlita, and his younger more nerdier brother, Jameson, got in the rock. The Carnotaurus slowly walked around the rock, then charged at a fleeing Sinoceratops. It attacked the herbivore, forcing it to fight back. The Carnotaurus tried to bite behind its neck, but the Sinoceratops hit it away. The Sinoceratops then tackled the Carnotaurus. It eventually decided that the fight wasn't worth being burnt to death and ran off.
Eventually, the Carnotaurus got back up and turned to the three Draconaqui. Discord stood right where he was, ready to hit it away. The Carnotaurus began charging at them.
"RROOAARR!!" it roared.
All of a sudden, a Tyrannosaurus appeared and bit down on the Carnotaurus' neck, then pinned it to the ground with it's foot. As volcanic ash began collapsing from the volcano as it erupted, allowing the Rex to roar triumphantly for a bit of drama. It then decided the fight wasn't worth its life as its instinct took over and told it one thing - run.
The ground shaking caused the gyro rock to begin rolling away and towards a cliff. Discord flew after them, as dinosaurs ran behind him.
A Suchomimus pushed a Sinoceratops out of its way. It looked at the Draconaqui inside the rock, and roared at them, before a rock hit it, knocking it down and killing it.
Many of the dinosaurs stopped at the edge of the cliff, not wanting to make the jump. Other dinosaurs decided to make the jump and take their chances with drowning instead of burning to death. Discord like other dinosaurs got enveloped in ash, and the gyro rock fell over the cliff.
The dinosaurs who jumped began to try to swim to the main land. The Mosasaurs who were freed surfaced and helped them get to the dock. Discord dived under the water and punched the glass. He ripped open the door and pulled his wife and friend to safety. They swam to safety on a beach, catching their breath for the time being.
"Where are the others?" Carlita asked.
"Back at the boat, with the injured raptor we rescued," Discord replied.
"It erupted faster than we originally thought," Jameson said.
"We couldn't even save all of them," Carlita said sadly.
Just then, a few Draconaqui flew overhead with the caged Tyrannosaurus. The Tyrannosaurus looked alright.
"RROOAARR!!"
"Maybe we have," Discord said.
They watched as two more Draconaqui carried a Baryonyx overhead.
Back at the docks.
The Draconaqui all loaded up the last of the dinosaurs onto the boat. General Tullik was overseeing this when he turned and saw a Stegosaurus being carried on a cart. Tullik could see it had been burnt by the fire over by its tail and right back leg. He went over to help heal the burn.
"Easy, sweetheart," he said in a calming voice. "Easy."
He then used his powers to heal the burn with a jolt, causing the Stegosaurus to jump.
"That'll go away in the morning," he said.
"Get the raptor to medbay immediately!" the doctor said.
Meanwhile, up on the rock.
Discord and the others were watching as more Draconaqui loaded more Brachiosaurs on top of the boat. Carlita was looking through a pair of binoculars.
"They're down there, loading up the last ones," she said.
She handed her husband the binoculars. He looked through them and saw the wounded raptor he found.
"There's the raptor," he said. "The burn looks bad, but nothing Zia can't fix."
Behind them, the eruption of the volcano got even worse as it intensified. The island was coming down, and it was coming down fast.
"We need to get on the boat!" Discord said.
"Better the boat than up here!" Jameson replied.
The trio began running for the boat. Down at the docks, the final Draconaqui were loading up.
"Get on the boat!" one of them shouted.
Out of the Forest, Discord, Carlita, and Jameson ran for the boat, pursued by fire rocks bombarding the dock and close to the boat. One rock landed near Jameson, knocking him down. Discord ran to help and turned to his wife, who was also turning to help him.
"Get that truck going!" Discord told her. "Go!"
Carlita ran to get the truck started as Discord ran to help Jameson. Carlita started the truck as Discord bent down to help Jameson up.
"Am I dead yet?" Jameson asked.
"Not yet, brother!" Discord replied, helping his brother onto his feet.
Back in the truck, Carlita began driving as Discord and Jameson chased the truck down. Discord jumped onto the back of the truck first, then reached back for his brother. After a few failed attempts, Jameson finally made it, and both he and his brother climbed into the back of the truck. Back in the front seat, Carlita sighed in relief...
Until she saw the boat begin to take off, worrying her a little.
"HOLD ON!" she called back to her family.
The brothers did as they were told, praying to whatever god or goddess that was listening that their truck made the jump. Carlita put the petal to the metal, speeding up enough to jump off the dock, and, no doubt due to luck, land on the ramp. After driving onto the boat, Carlita hit the brakes, and put the truck in park.
"You guys okay?" a Draconaquus asked.
"Yes, thank you for asking," Carlita replied.
Just then, everyone is coming out and looking to the distance. Even the Draconaquus that checked on the trio was looking in the distance.
"What's going on?" Carlita asked the Draconaquus.
"Um, Carli..." Discord said, sorrow in his voice.
Carlita froze at his tone and what he said. He only ever called her "Carli" when something had upset him to the point of sadness.
"You may want to see this..." Discord said silently.
Carlita did as she was told, but immediately regretted it. Right there, on the dock, was the last dinosaur on the island. A lone, elderly Brachiosaurus was lumbering towards the water, lava and smoke closing in on it, all while it bellowed in a desperate call for help.
"We missed one..." Carlita whispered, sorrow and horror in her voice. "We didn't get all of them..."
The other dinosaurs, even though they had been tranqed and were falling asleep, heard the cries of their friend, and bellowed out to urge her to go faster. Even the carnivores, who would normally be hunting and eating the gentle giants, begged her to hurry. Unfortunately, the smoke reached her, so she stood up on her hind legs, using her tail to balance herself, and raised her head to full height to try above the smoke. However, judging from the glow given off by the fires and magma, the lava had reached her as well seeing as she had toppled over.
As the loading bay doors closed, everyone had tears in their eyes. Even as they began falling asleep, many had clearly accepted their friend's fate due to the tears in their eyes as they stopped calling out, while others refused to stop as they fell asleep, tears stinging at their eyes.
"We failed..." Carlita said sadly.
"Not entirely, ma'am," a voice said next to her. She turned to her side, and saw that it was General Tullik. "We got all the others, so that counts for something."
Carlita said nothing, but simply nodded sadly. Despite sympathizing with her, Tullik then called out to Discord.
"What are your orders, sir?" he asked.
"Continue on with the mission, continue on... to Jurassic Everfree," Discord commanded.
The journey was long and took a few days. But finally they had reached their destination. Once they arrived, they let the dinosaurs loose into the fenced area, which was thankfully large enough for them to roam around. As the Draconnaqui were about to enter the dinosaurs' new home, the ground began to rumble. As the Draconnaqui looked around, saw the ground splitting open.
"EARTHQUAKE!" Jameson shouted.
Discord, who was ensuring the fence had been starting up, heard the shout, and rushed to open the gates to let them in. Unfortunately, it seemed as if Mother Nature herself had other plans, because the earthquake quickened its pace.
"We're not gonna make it in time!" Tullik shouted. "Discord, all that matters is the last of the dinosaurs are preserved! Put the barrier up, protect them at all costs!"
Discord hesitated, conflicted.
"Just do it, man!" Tullik ordered.
Discord, reluctantly, closed the gate. Once he had, he began setting up the barrier, trying to block out the cries of the people. Once the barrier was set up, Discord tried to fight back tears. When he looked up, he locked eyes with Carlita, who mouthed three words to him: Protect the dinosaurs.
Discord silently nodded, looking away from his people as they fell into the chasm below. Discord was now truly alone in the world... the last of his kind... the last Draconnequus.
