> A Displaced Gunner > by Shadow Hero > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Man with the Machine Gun > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -The Man with the Machine Gun- A few months back- Canterlot castle Laguna had just arrived and many of the present soldiers had been giving him dirty looks even though the Princess herself assured them he was not at all a threat… well, all except for one. Speed was an orange coated stallion with a short messy dark blue mane and tail and a rather infectious smile. “Sooo, feel like coming over for dinner? I bet a certain little filly would love to see her godfather.” Speed teased while prodding the man’s arm as they walked the halls of the castle. “Depends, what's on the menu?” Laguna responded in kind, punching Speed in the shoulder. “Alright alright, how ‘bout I make your favorite then? Chili.” Speed said through his chuckling. “Come on man, you know you don’t have to. Seeing Scoots is all I need... But if that's-” Laguna did not get to finish his sentence however as the two were interrupted by one Twilight Sparkle. A unicorn mare with a purple coat, moderately sapphire blue mane with lavender highlights, and black rimmed glasses had popped into existence before the dumbstruck pair. “The Princess would like a word with Laguna.” She said as she raised her glasses higher upon her snout. Laguna looked back at Speed, looking for some way out of his predicament. “Hey, you can’t leave the Princess waiting.” Speed said punching Laguna on the shoulder. With a defeated slumping sigh, Laguna raised his hand in a point. “Lead the way.” With a nod, Twilight lead him to the consulate room where it was Celestia had waited for him. With a welcoming smile, Celestia ushered the man inside. “It's good to see you in good health, things are well I hope?” She asked with a smile. Laguna could only sigh as he took a seat close to the princess. “Alright, what's the reason you called for me Princess?” Celestia’s smile began to waver, her face now devoid of expression. “It seems the Crystal Empire has returned and with it, an increased aggression from fiends.” As Celestia finished,  a guard with a white coat walked in. “I’m sorry to interrupt but it seems a group of soldiers are attacking some of the villages to the north.” The guard said taking off his helmet revealing his blue mane. “It seems we are too late to reclaim the Empire. Get ready, it’s time to go to war.” Celestia said looking down at the map of Equestria.  “I was hoping to drop you here...” she mumbled. The Frozen North- a few months later War...the great orchestra of doom and destruction. A great force of Ponies and Griffon danced and weaved upon the battlefield, swords sung with the wind, axes swam upon rivers of blood and tears...and a single warrior stood out like a sore thumb. Charging with the speed of an angry minotaur, Laguna slammed bodily into a crystal pony. Said pony had been much too close to ending the life of one “Speed”, once safe, Laguna leveled his mighty weapon of automatic majesty into an oncoming group. With grace and precision, leaden bullets pierced both air and armor. “You okay Speed?” Laguna, could only offer a hand as he kept his eyes focused and alert. “Pretty good, but I totally could have taken ‘im.” Speed replied with gusto. “Pft, sure pal...”Not but two seconds passed as several Ice Bombs formed before them. “I got this.” The stallion said as he lifted his right hoof and shot a small fireball at one Bomb, the monster melting away. “Man you ponies learn fast.” Laguna himself had cast Fira into the group. ‘Wasn’t all that long ago that I learned how to use this ability.’ Draw...a simple word that carried much weight. The ability to siphon magic from the world around you...as well as the enemies before you. “Hey, war means having to go above and beyond.” Speed said dispatching the last Bomb with Fira. Laguna looked around to see that most of the Crystal ponies were nowhere to be found. ‘Strange.’ he thought to himself. Unbeknownst to all one King Sombra, the opposing force in this skirmish, had been biding his time so as to charge a sufficient amount of magic. After a drawing all the necessary magic from his own troops, a single beam of light had pierced the skies. “Heheheh...I summon thee…” Laguna and Speed began to walk, managing to bump into Rainbow dash, a blue rainbow maned pegasus mare. Her left wing had been replaced by a metal prosthetic and a wicked scar ran along her left eye. “Looks like they’re retreating for some reason, cowards.” She scoffed as caught sight of the duo. Of course before any one could say anything in response, a single piercing light stole the attention of all those present. From a ring of parted clouds in the sky did descend, one giant human like woman with snow white skin and ice blue markings. ‘Okay that's not good…’ Laguna thought as he looked upon the frozen maiden. The being opened her eyes as freezing torrential winds swept along the landscape. It's ice began erecting massive pillars, those lucky enough to escape had been introduced personally to the outer shell of hardened towers...those not as lucky shared an intimate relation with the insides of said pillars. “We should run.” Speed stated, calmly staring at the carnage as his compatriots frantically began to flee for their lives. Nodding in confirmation, the trio of Dash, Speed, and Laguna began their own hurried flight. In Dash and Speed’s case, this was quite literal. For Laguna… “Hey! Wait up! I can't run that fast!” This was not the case. “I got you!” Speed exclaimed as he turned  around and snatched Laguna up. Of course the added weight had now begun to hinder Speed. With saddened eyes, Speed tossed Laguna as a pillar of ice began to form around his barrel. “NO!” Laguna’s cries fell to deaf ears, Rainbow having swapped in to ensure their continued safety. She landed within a mystically sealed tent and breathed. “What are you doing!? We have to go back!!” Laguna struggled as Rainbow kept him down. “Look...it's too late for him, and I had to get you out of there before we lost another.” Rainbow retorted. “What seems to be the matter?” Princess Celestia said as she walked in on the struggle. “It seems that Sombra got his hooves on a Guardian Force.” Rainbow said with a salute. “There is no need for formality… So what I saw then is true. We must think of a plan to counteract him, for with its help Equestria is doomed.” Celestia said as she began to pace. ‘Maybe we can find are own, but where.’ she thought. “Princess, there were many injured during that last confrontation.” A pink earth pony mare with a darkened pink mane said as she walked in with a gray earth pony. “Is there anyway to heal those frozen?” Laguna asked with dwindling hope. “Far as Red Heart knows? No.” The Gray earth pony said in a monotone voice. Laguna’s hopes died, sighing as his shoulders fell into a slump. “I have an idea, Pinkamena.” The princess turned to the pink mare. “Send a letter to my royal adviser, Twilight and ask her to search for any info on the Guardian Force.” “On it.” Pinkamena give a salute and walked off. The gray mare, one “Maud” turned to Laguna. “We did retrieve most of the frozen ponies, Speed is in the infirmary.” she said. WIth a nod he turned to Celestia, eyes filled with sad resolve. “Oh! Yes well...you are dismissed, Captain.” Laguna ran about as fast as he could, the sight before him raher heartbreaking. Various soldiers had been stuck in various states of frost, everything from frozen limbs to frozen torsos. The further in he went, the worse off the damage was, until he found himself before a cloth flap. Clearing his throat to announce his presence, he waited until he heard shuffling from the other side. Redheart, a white earth pony mare opened the flap. “You can’t- Oh, it’s you. Come in come in.” she said moving to the side. With a heavy step, Laguna found himself at the side of his best friend and comrade. “This is my fault...if I was faster then maybe...” He knelt closer to Speed, his heart falling with him. “It was not your fault he was just following his heart.” The monotone voice of Maud called out from behind Laguna. “What do you mean?” He asked the mare without even looking up. “That's what friends do. They put themselves before others, foregoing any consequence.” Maud said as she sat down next to Laguna. “I-I guess so, but that doesn't make it fair. He had more to live for, he has a kid at home waiting for him! What am I even going to tell her?” Laguna began to berate himself silently, tears running down his cheek. “There there.” Maud said as she pat Laguna’s head as he fell upon her shoulder. After quite some time, Laguna head off to the mess hall tent to pick up something to eat. ‘Get yourself together. Sitting around moping won’t bring him back.’ He thought as he walked in, all eyes present falling on him. He quickly got his food and sat down at an empty table, doing his best to ignore the outside world. “So how's it going?” Rainbow asked as she sat down in front of Laguna, whom had decided to play with his food. “I’m feeling better I guess. So how are you holding up?” Laguna asked as Maud and Pinkie sat down joining them. “We lost someone dear to us, but we must move on.” Maud said as she took a bite of her hay sandwich. “She’s right, but it's still sad thought.” Pinkie said with shrug Laguna’s spirits only fell further. ‘I guess they weren't as close to him as I was…’ The group finished their meals in silence, stealing their resolve for the coming days. > Start of the Journey > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -At the start of the Journey- Laguna found himself lying upon aquatic like flooring. “Okay, this is new.” The man eased himself into a sitting position, the last thing he could remember was the scene of Speed being frozen solid...that was set on a loop for some reason. “Worry not, we are here to aide you.” A female voice said. Laguna looked around and found a majestic Alicorn with a dark blue coat and a starry mane descending from the sky. “And who might you be?” Laguna asked worriedly reaching for his gun...which was now gone. “We are Princess Luna, half of what is known as Nightmare Moon.” The mare said giving a stern look. “Nightmare, I heard that Celestia had to fight her not too long ago.. How do I know your not here to attack me when I have no weapon?” “We are the light within...We have come to aid thee with thy nightmare.” Luna said “Ok then…I guess I don't have to tell you what it is then?” Laguna asked getting a nod from the mare. “So what can you help me with then?” “Tis not your fault, though you may think otherwise… It's more or less our fault.” Luna said as her ears dropped. “The fiends are a new creed, brought upon by our return…” “What do you mean?” Laguna had lost all tension, and was now in rather rapt attention. “When we returned, as Nightmare Moon, the fiends of the moon came with us… If we could of sealed them we-” “You weren't in control of yourself right?” Laguna asked as he took a seat on the floor. “So it’s not your fault...just like how you said Speed’s death wasn’t mine.” “You are wise...Maybe we shall visit you more often.”Luna said with a smile. “Hey, if it keeps you sane, then sure.” Laguna said with a shrug. The world suddenly grew darker. “We shall meet again, but it seems the demon has found us.” Luna said igniting her horn causing a flash. Laguna shot right up from his bed. “That was a strange dream…” “Hey get up! Celestia is holding a meeting and she wants you to be there.” A female voice said that came from the other side of the tent’s flap. “Ok...” Laguna said with a  languid stretch, he moved to put on the shirt and jacket he came into this world with. As Laguna walked into the main tent, he found Rainbow and the pie sisters were there as well. “Good everyone is here.” Celestia said as she sat right in front of a map as Laguna took a seat next to Maud. “You seem tired.” Maud commented. “It’s nothing.” Laguna said keeping his weird dream to himself. “Anyway, Twilight was able to ascertain the location of a Guardian Force.” Celestia said. She pointed her hoof at the map. “Here, lies the Guardian named Ramuh. It's on the edge of the Badlands.” “And you want us to go get it?” Rainbow asked. “Precisely. With all your combined talents you four are the perfect team...unless you think this to much. I could always ask Lightning Dust?” Celestia asked with a wink. “Like that bird brain could do better.” Rainbow spat. “I’m in.” Rainbow said putting her hoof in the middle...only to look at her companions with mild annoyance. “Hey don't leave me hanging.” Laguna rolled his eyes before putting is hand on top of Rainbow’s followed by the Pie sisters. “Well then, all of you should get your things ready.” Celestia said smiling at the scene. “Now, my assistant Raven will fill you in on the more finer details.” Celestia made her way out and turned to look back to the group. “I do have other things to work on.” With confused looks, they left and found that Raven had been waiting for them. “Now then, due to the storm being as strong as it is, you'll be using the emergency cave systems.” She explained, not once looking up from her clipboard. When she final looked up she saw that Laguna was the only one still listening. “At least I told the person in charge of the group.” She shook her head in disapproval. “I’m in charge?” Laguna asked incredulously, pointing an index finger at his face. “Why me and not say Maud?” Laguna wondered, seeing as Maud was far more grounded then any of them. “Celestia says she is not yet ready for that task and sees you fit for the role… Anyway just hurry up. I’ll be waiting by the entrance.” Raven said as she began to trot away. Laguna idly made his way back to his tent so as to pick up his things, only to find that Rainbow was waiting for him, seated on the bed next to his. “You know this is a stallion’s tent right?” Laguna asked as he began to rifle through his foot locker. “I just want to talk that's all.” rainbow said looking away. “So? Spit it out.” Laguna said. Rainbow began to fidget on the bed for a minute before standing. “This is getting a little to nuts don’t you think? Almost a year ago everything was so peaceful and now...” Her gaze seemed lost, as if a mist began to flood her vision. “War changes pe-ponies...in ways they don’t or won't really understand, its weird that way.” Laguna said as he picked up one of the only things he had left that was near and dear to him. A simple and unimpressive locket. “Anyway is that all?” He asked as he pocketed the locket. “Well...I kinda...sorta...don’t know where to go?” Rainbow said sheepishly as she scratched the back of her head with a hoof. With a tired sigh, Laguna made his way out of his tent. “Follow me.” He finished his packing on foot, placing everything in his RPG like inventory. Upon reaching their destination, the pair had been met by the Pie sisters. “Took you long enough.” Pinkie said “Good, now that you're all here, head to Ponyville. Twilight will be waiting for you there.” Raven said handing a map of the cavern system. “Why Ponyville?” Pinkie asked. “Apparently there was an alicorn mare that looked like her sited in the area, so she went to check it out.” “Okay then...Maud, you're on map detail.” Laguna said as he relinquished the map. With a nod, the group began their trek through the cave. The cave had multiple paths which seemed to split every whitch way. “So, where to Maud?” Rainbow asked trying to read the map as she hovered. “It’s this way but...this marking said a monster may be in that direction.” Maud said pointing at a claw mark on the wall of the path they need to go down. “Ohh it looks like an Antlion.” Pinkie said holding a magnifying glass to the marking. “Strange it's way too far from its home.” Maud commented. “Hey, if it's the only way, we’ll just have to Force our way through!” Rainbow said as sparks of electricity arced along her hooves. “Only engage in battle if absolutely necessary, am I clear?” Laguna explained as he held his machine gun at the ready. Slowly and quietly, the group walked down the path with Laguna on point, but as he took one step into a room, the ground under his foot began to disintegrate as he began to sink forward. Maud, who was thankfully right behind, him grabbed one of his arms and pulled him up. “Thanks.” Laguna said as he dusted himself off. Rainbow tossed a stone into the pit and a giant Antlion head popped out as the stone went straight into its awaiting maw. “Looks like the only way past is over that thing's dead body.” She explained oh so eloquently, her eyes never once leaving the creature. Laguna looked around the room. “Rainbow head over there and wait for my signal.” Laguna said getting a salute from her as she flew to the left. “Pinkie, to the right and Maud stay here.” “What about you?” Pinkie asked “I’m going full Desperado on this one.” He took out a grenade cluster from his jacket pocket and tossed it down the hole. “Fire away.” He took his chain whip and locked it onto the ceiling as he begun to swing in an arc and rained leaden justice onto the now exploding Antlion. Catching her cue, Rainbow cast Water as both Pinkie and Maud cast Blizzard down at the Antlion. It roared in pain but was able to knock some ground under Pinkie causing her to slide down. “I got you.” Rainbow said as she dived and grabbed Pinkie right before they had become the Antlion’s meal. “Thanks Dash.” Pinkie said with a smile. Laguna landed on the other side watching Rainbow put Pinkie down, then down at the weakened foe. “It's still alive...Maud can you-” “On it.” Maud said channeling energy and forming a giant ball of water over the pit, dropping it. As the sand absorbed the excess water, the Antlion was nowhere to be found. “I'm running low on Water magic.” Maud commented,  Pinkie nodded in agreement. “Okay then, let's try and ration our magic. That means we take on weaker foes the old fashioned way.” Laguna said as his company slid down the pit and walked up to the other side. “That may be the only one in our path if we keep right.” Maud said as Laguna helped her up. “Noted. What’s this?” He asked Rainbow as she handed him something. “The Antlion seemed to drop this.” Rainbow said. Laguna look over the orange crystal. “It should come in handy later.” He said, pocketing the gem for later use. > An Ant Problem > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -An Ant Problem- The cave lead them to a village hidden under thick trees and vegetation that obscured all most all manner of sunlight. “This must be Hollow Shade.” Maud stated, idly scanning the area and finding the area mostly populated by Bat ponies. Some of them stopped and stared at Laguna. “We should find a place to stay.” Laguna said now feeling rather uncomfortable. “I’ll go ask around.” Rainbow said as she and Pinkie walked away asking a bat pony that only gave them the cold shoulder. “I don't think they like talking to strangers.” Maud explained. Laguna however failed to hear, his eyes fixated on a sign that read “Bed and Beer”. “I think I found an inn.” Laguna said pointing out the place. With a nod they made for the inn. Inside was a bat pony mare with a eye patch standing behind the bar, her back to the door. “What will it be?” She asked. “We would like a place to rest.” Rainbow said walking up and taking a seat at the bar. “Right a… Umm.” The inn mare had turned and flinched, her eye landing upon Laguna. “What, am I that scary or something?” Laguna asked, feeling rather self conscious. “No its...first we don't get many visitors, and well you do look like a hairless minotaur. “ She said with a shameful blush. “Its ok...It's not the first time I heard that one, so a room for four.” Laguna said pulling out a bag of bits. The inn mare picked the bag up and began to weigh it in her hoof. “It should cover the night and then some.” She said with a smile. “But we only have two rooms available, if thats ok?” “Me and Maud can share a room.” Pinkie said putting her fore hoof around her sister. “I guess that leaves me and Rainbow then.” Laguna said shaking his head. “Here you go then.” The mare said handing them the keys to their rooms, taking the keys they each made for their respective quarters. Laguna opened the door to his and Rainbow’s room, only to find a single bed. “I could sleep on the floor, I could sleep anywhere.” Rainbow said as she walked in and took her bag off. “It’s fine by me.” Laguna said as he walked over to a table and took out the crystal. “I wonder what this does?” He asked himself as took a closer look at the crystal. “Why don’t you leave that alone-” “I, Zidane Tribal one of the heroes of light, will aid you in any fight against a fiend or if you need something.. Let's say liberated. Just hold this crystal up to the sun.” A voice rang out of the crystal causing Laguna to drop it. “What the hell was that?” Rainbow said “I don’t know, but maybe?” Laguna, picking up the crystal, walked outside to do what the crystal said as he held it to the crystal to the sky. A portal opened and a guy with a monkey tail walked out. “You called.” the guy said. “Ah yeah, where did you-” “I’ll explain, but do you have anywhere I can sit down.” The monkey tailed guy said walking up to and chatting with Rainbow. With a nod Laguna lead there guest to the bar. “So you were sent here too?” Laguna asked “Not here, but an alternate universe but yeah. I took these off a table.” the guy named Zidane said pointing to his dagger case. “I guess you were cosplaying as well?” “No, I was walking around in my regular clothes taking pictures, and then I bought these dog tags. So this was the catalyst of me being sent here…” Laguna said as a waitress set down three glasses of beer. “Many others are out there. Like a He-man and Dark Magician.” Zidane said picking up his glass. “So how does this ‘Token’ work.” Rainbow asked. “You take an item that represents you and toss it into the void.” Zidane said “I see…” Laguna said, he was cut off by a big earthquake. “What was that?” Maud rushed over to the trio. “Pinkie seemed to of found her herself in trouble. Who's he?” She asked. “A friend. Now what did she do?” Laguna ask “She fell in a dug out hole that appeared under her. It seems this town has been having Antlion problems.” Maud said in the most alarming tone she can muster. “I guess they are not only staying in the mines then? Zidane do you mind helping us?” Laguna asked the other human in the room. “I guess I can. It's not like I had anything else going on.” Zidane said with a shrug. “Great. Lead the way Maud.”  With a nod, Rainbow rushed back to the room to pick up her bag. In the centre of town lay a large gaping hole that had not been there when they arrived. Many of the towns ponies had begun circling it. “Stand back, we are from Celestia’s army and are here to investigate this.” Maud said causing them to move a side. “About time  this has been going on for weeks now.” The seemingly only unicorn in town said. “Look we have been busy up north with Sombra so cut us some slack.” Rainbow said “Look we're here now so let the professionals handle this.” Zidane said getting in between the unicorn and Rainbow. “Yes well, we have been doing just fine without any help. It's just been me and a couple of ponies that did not get called into war.” The unicorn who had a gray coat and red mane said as a about two other ponies, one of them was a mint green Pegasus mare and the other was a black coated earth pony stallion came to his side. “We have been traveling for quite some time and we've never seen hairless or tall soldiers in any town that needed help.” The mare of the group said. “Look, this war is not going to end itself. so can you please step aside. Our friend and my sister are down there.” Maud said “Your guys are not going to play hero just to prove a point. Let's go.” The earth pony said as he ran to the gaping hole and slid down with the rest of his group following. “Well, commander what’ the order?” Zidane said putting his hands behind his head and crossing his legs. “First off, I'm not the commander.” “Actually, Celestia put you in charge so, yes. You are.” Maud stated plainly. “Fine, I don't see myself like one though. Anyway let's go after them.” Laguna said as he charge forward. When he got to the bottom he saw many freshly made tunnels. “So we're did those three go?” Laguna thought to himself out loud. Not paying attention, Rainbow fell on top of him. “Sorry chief.” She said getting off of him and standing to the side. Brushing himself off, Laguna did the same so the others wouldn't fall on him as will. Maud was next to slide down and she did so without falling on her face. “Interesting rock formation, most of those are from farther down.” She said picking up a rock. Zidane came down and landed safely on his knees. “So we're did they go?” He asked getting up. Laguna looked around to see if they left them selves a trail back. With a blink of an eye an Antlion popped its head out and spat a glob of what looked like sand at Laguna, he ducked, dodging the attack. “I got this.” Zidane said summoning daggers, he jumped in the air and slashed the Antlion in the face causing it to retreat  back down in its hole. “After it, it's going to alert the others!” Rainbow shouted as the Antlion dug its way down a corridor. They followed it the best the could in the darkened caverns, with some light coming from holes above. The Antlion lead them to a room. Down below the trio from before was having a hard time fighting their own Antlions. “I think we should retreat.” The pegasus said. “No, we can handle this Lightning.”  The unicorn said as he fought off an Antlion from eating his face. Shaking his head Laguna took aim and shot the monster off the unicorns. “You're welcome.” He said as he and the others slid down. “We could of handled that.” The earth pony said as he bucked an antlion making it hit the wall. “Have you seen a pink pony anywhere?” Maud asked as she slammed her hoof down causing a spike to jettison upwards. “No, we’ve been busy.” Lightning said slashing an Antlion causing it to cry out. The ground started to shake violently. “This can’t be good.” Zidane said On cue, a massive antlion popped its head and screeched at the group. “That must be their queen.” Maud said as everyone grouped up. “Any ideas on what to do now, Abyssal?” Lightning asked as she turned to face the unicorn. “We fight our way out.” Abyssal said as he readied his sword. > A Pearl of a Queen > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The queen Antilon kept shooting its sand spit at the group. “I can only do so much.” Zidane said flipping to the side as one of the sand balls headed his way. Laguna took aim at an Antlion that was about to back strike Zidane. “I have an idea, so hold on.” He said as he shot an aquatic round at the Antlion. The black haired man looked back and saw that Rainbow was having a hard time. “If you’re really here to help then let's do this.” Abyssal said as he encased his sword in ice and ran up to the Queen. “You should-” Maud failed to finish her sentence as the red maned unicorn ran passed her, but instead of making contact he began to sink into the sand that the Queen stirred up. Seeing this, Laguna took out his chain whip and grabbed onto the Stallion. “That was a stupid idea.” He said pulling Abyssal away from the center causing him to mumble something. “Then what's the plan if I can’t run up and slash it.” Abyssal whined. “I have a plan. Zidane can you distract the Queen.” Laguna asked getting a thumbs up. “Here goes.” He said concentrating. “What are you...” Abyssal wanted to question further, but decided to intercept an Antlion aiming for the human. “Lets go DOOMTRAIN.” Laguna said as spectral train tracks appeared under the Queen. Zidane jumped to the side knowing full well what was going to happen. A specter of a train with a melted skull like face came in sight and ran straight for the Queen Antlion at full speed, slamming the Queen into the wall as the train fazed from existence. “Now let's go for an all out attack!” Zidane screamed as he rushed up. Shrugging Laguna did the same thing pulling out a harpoon out of his pocket. Zidane span in a circle as strange runic symbols began to appear around him and hitting the queen, and Laguna threw his harpoon straight at the chest of the queen. It slammed back down to the ground kicking up a mass of sand, blocking the view. This forced Laguna to take aim at the other Antlion’s, shooting them with water and Drawing some Quake magic from them. Everyone looked back and saw the Queen laying on the ground breathing havely. “That should do it.” Laguna said as he looked around and saw the Antilon’s that were still alive rush up to their queen’s side. Seeing this, Abyssal cast a small burst of fire that hit the Queen, then charged his sword and then launched blades out striking the Queen and splitting her in two before she turned into sand, causing the others to scatter.  “That should do it.” He said as his sword did disappeared. “And now they others are out there doing Celestia knows what.” Rainbow said as she and the others walked up. “She’s right.” Lightning said. “We will go after them.” Abyssal said with a sigh before he and his group galloped away. “Hey! Get back... here?” Rainbow yelled but Laguna grabbed her tail stopping her. “Let them go we still need to find Pinkie.” he said as he let go of her tail. Rainbow let out a sigh as they continued through the hive. As they walked through the caves leading down, some of the remaining Antlions had attacked them. “Don't they ever give up?” Zidane asked as they defeated another one. “She's close.” Maud said running pasted a few Antlions. After dispatching the Antlions in front of them they followed suit, running into an opening filled with a comical amount of treasure. “That's a lot of stuff down there.” Zidane muttered. Down below Pinkie was doing a Duck Tales and swimming around some gold coins. “What took you guys so long?” She asked looking up at the group staring down on her. “How are-” Zidane said as Laguna put his hand on his shoulder “I thought you would know but, you never question Pinkie.” The black haired man said. Shaking that off Zidane slid down and picking up a pearl. “This must be an Antlion pearl.” He said with a sparkle in his eye. “Yeah, no. That can be used in medicine.” Rainbow said snatching the pearl out of the monkey tailed man’s hands. “Party pooper.” He said kicking some coins aside. “So they didn’t harm you?” Laguna asked. “Nope. As soon as I showed them who's boss they brought me here.” She said with a smile causing Laguna to raise a eye brow. “Let’s go tell the town's ponies that it's safe.” Maud said. As they were about to leave, Laguna turned around. “Are you coming?” He asked Zidane. “What? Oh, yeah.” The blond haired man said as he shoved something in his pocket. They found that the corridor they walked down opened up a little bit away from town. “Well I need to do some training so I think it's time for me to go.” Zidane said as he crossed his legs and put his hands behind his head. “Ah sure… Wait shouldn't you teach me more about tokens?” Laguna asked. “Oh right. Do you have anything you can use?” “Well this.” Laguna said pulling out a set of dog tags. “Great now make a message like the one I made.” “Ok…  If you need aid or just someone to chat with then I, Laguna shall come and lend you my strength and ear. Just focus and hold this close to your heart.” He said as he held the dog tags close. “Now what?” “You toss it into the void.” Zidane said as a rift opened. Seeing this Laguan tossed the dog tags in and it came right back. “Now say our contract is up so I can go back.” “Right.. our contract is up.” With that Zidane did a backflip and faded out of existent “Are you coming chief!?” Rainbow called as the walked back to town. “Coming!” Laguna called back as he shakes his head before running after them. After telling the towns ponies that the antlions should not be a problem they head back to their rooms. “So what did monkey boy want?” Rainbow said as she layed on the floor with a daring doo book in hoof. “Just to make a token so I can help others.” “You mean us, we are a team. Wherever you go we go.” The rainbow mane mare proclaimed. “I guess.. are you sure your ok sleeping on the floor, the bed is more than big enough for both of us.” Laguna said as he laid down on the bed proving what he said was true. “Ohh. You don't mind having me sleep next to you?” She asked with looking away hiding a blush that is hard to hide do to her blue coat. “I wouldn't ask if I didn't. Well as long as you don't kick in your sleep that is.” The black haired man said “Hey I would never do that.” She said as Laguna chuckled. “Then what's the matter.” Letting out a big sigh Rainbow got up and layed right next to Laguna. “Now what are you reading?” He asked very curious on what a non bookworm is reading. “Well it's a book series about…” Rainbow talked about the Daring Do series almost the whole night. > A flirty mare > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Laguna Ch 5 Laguna had woken up a bit earlier than Rainbow, the tiny mare snuggling up to him. With a chuckle, he slowly lifted one of her hooves off of him and went out to the bar. Once he entered the bar, many of its patrons turned around a gave him dirty looks. Shaking it, off he walked over the bar keep. “Can I get a hard cider?” He asked putting some bits on the counter. “First one is on the house, think of it as a thank you.” The bar keep said pouring him a mug. “So, you're a soldier right?” A bat pony mare asked as she took a seat next to him. “I'm only doing what I need to, I was kinda thrown into this.” Laguna said taking a sip. “War is hard on all of us.” The mare said as she took a sip of a martini. Laguna looked around and saw a pool table. “Do you want to play?” He asked the mare pointing to the pool table. “Sure.” she said downing her drink. “Name's Patty by the way.” She said getting up. “Laguna.” He said as they walked over to the table. The game went well, Laguna won most of the games until a drunk stallion walked up. “Mind if I join you ladies.” he said. This caused Laguna’s left eyebrow to twitch abit. “I'm a guy, a stallion.” He said biting his tongue, this was not the first time someone called him a girl. “But you look like a mare to me.” He said with a drunk hiccup. “I guess you can.” Patty said getting in between the two, she felt that if she didn't, Laguna may do something rash. The game was awkward, he kept flirting with Patty and Laguna. Patty took the bulk of it however. Once the game was over, Laguna walked away from the table, getting called back by the stallion. The human took a seat ordering a beer and let out a sigh as Patty walked up. “Some stallions can't take a hint. You ok?” She asked. “If you weren't there I would of shot the guy.” He said taking a sip of the beer. “Noted. Want to get out of here?” She asked. Laguna downed his drink. “Aaa, what do you have in mind?” He asked getting up. “Why not go back to my place.” Patty said with a notable blush. This caught Laguna off guard by this, back in Canterlot no one thought of him like that. “Ah I uh.” All of sudden a bolt of electricity shot up his right leg causing it to cramp up. “Ow ow. Leg cramp.” He said kneeling down holding his cramped knee. “Are you ok?” She asked with a concerned voice. “I'm ok.” He said stretching his leg out. “We don't have to go back to my place.” she said with here ears folded back. “It's not that, its just… Why don’t I show you how to use a gun?” The gunner asked as he stood up. This seemed to light in up her mood because she shook her head violently. The two left the bar and went as far away from the town so as to not disturb anyone. Laguna pulled out a handgun with a crystal imbedded into it. “I'm not so sure how you can use this, but here.” He said handing her the gun. She held it in her hoof and studied it as she hovered. “Now what?” “Take aim at the tree.” He said getting behind her. “And-” “There you are.” Rainbow said as she landed next to the two. “Sorry for leaving, now flick the crystal.” Laguna said, Patty did as she was told and a magical bullet was shot out hitting a tree. “Why are you showing her how to use a gun?” Rainbow asked with a raised eyebrow. “It’s just… Never mind, what's up?” “You just disappeared without saying a word, that made me worry about you.” The blue coated mare said. Patty look between the two. “I see now, don't worry he did not do anything.” She said with an assuring smile. “What are you talking about?” Laguna said confused. Rainbow was taken back by that. “No it’s not like that.” She said with a small blush. “Not like what?” “Nothing, anyway I have to get back to work. Hope to see you again handsome.” Patty said as she brushed her tail against Laguna’s leg before walking away. “Did I miss something?” “Nope, the others are waiting for us at the train station.” Rainbow said. Upon arriving to the station, Laguna had noticed Pinkie pacing back and forth. “There you are. We're did you run off to?” the pink mare asked. “I was with a mare and-” “No need to say more.” Pinkie said zipping her mouth shut. “Anyway the train is about to leave.” Maud said shaking her head at her sister's action. Luggage in tow, they headed onto the train and were given a car to themselves. “Is the room spinning?” Pinkie asked as everyone stood up. “I.. Ahh.”Laguna said before passing out, as the others did the same. A pink Pegasus mare flew down the halls of Canterlot castle. “Aunty, something is wrong at the empire, my mom is not right.” She said bursting into the throne room. This outburst caused Celestia to drop some paperwork. “What do you mean, Cadance?” “She and chancellor Sombra ordered the Crystal ponies to mine all the crystals and hide the crystal heart.” Cadence said out of breath. “So that what that feeling was..” “Princess, the Crystal Empire has captured Shade Forest and declared war.” An armoured pony said trotting in. “This is not good, go alert my sister of this at once.” Celestia commanded. With a nod the armored pony rushed out. “Aunty, what's going to happen?” Cadence asked. “First and foremost, we must protect the ponies... I’m sorry Cadence, but I think your mother is corrupted by dark magic.” Celestia said walking passed the Pegasus, who was in shock. The group began to stir, thoughts running rampant. “What a weird dream...” Rainbow said groggily. “Yeah, what's up with Celestia? She does not have a sister.” Pinkie said “Wait, did we just share the same dream?” Laguna asked. Everyone was shocked, they did have a shared dream. What caused this to happen? The intercom going on broke their train of thought. “We should be at Ponyville in 5 minutes.” It said on repeat. “We must of been out longer than we thought.” Pinkie said. “Anyway, once we’re there I have some business before meeting with Twilight, so you should all go see her. I'll be there soon.” Laguna said picking up his bag.
