> Selene Night > by Ruby Lightning > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Spell (Prologue) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “From all of us together, together we are friends, with the marks of our destinies made one, there is magic without end!” Twilight spoke the words as she wrote them; and the moment that the sentence was finished, her head began to grow warm as the element of magic upon her head lit up and the elements around her friends’ necks all fired magical beams that surrounded her in magic and she felt her very essence slipping away. She bowed her head one final time as she knew that she had failed, her very being melted, and all faded to white. > After the Twilight, Comes the Night > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The mane 6 (or was it the mane 5?) gathered around the spot that their friend had disappeared, and where a small filly was now laying. The ponies looked around at each other then back down at the unconscious filly at their hooves. Applejack was the first to speak; “Well who the hay is she?” The rest didn’t know what say, the new filly didn’t look like anypony any of them knew, but for some reason, she looked familiar to all of them. The filly had a coat so black that it was difficult to look at, permeated by white dots, resembling stars, while her mane was bright blue, the only break being the purple streak, the same purple as Twilight’s streak in her mane. All 5 ponies were afraid to move, unsure of what was going to happen next. It stayed like this until someone (Rarity) pushed Rainbow Dash forward. Rainbow glared at this unknown pony (a-hem!) before audibly swallowing and poking the filly with a hoof. “Rainbow!” Rarity whispered loudly, startling Dashie. “She could be hurt!” The fashionista continued. “Well I don’t see you doing anything!” Rainbow shot back in a whisper. All the tension was too much for Pinkie to take, and she whispered as loud as she could; “No more fighting!” Despite being just a whisper, the entire library shook, causing the ponies to look around in confusion. Aj shook her head before saying in a normal voice; “Pinkie’s right, arguing won’t get us anywhere. She cautiously walked to the unconscious filly, kneeling and placing a hoof on her shoulder; “Sugarcube?” Aj spoke softly to the filly. “Uh, y’alright?” When the filly didn’t respond, she shook her shoulder slightly “Sugarcu-” Before she could finish, the filly’s shot open and she tackled Applejack out of the way, bolting out of the door. Dash was the first to respond, shouting “after her!” as she zipped out the door after the filly. Pinkie wasn’t far behind, zooming out the door in a pink blur, leaving the rest in the dust. Dash flew above the town, looking for the filly, but it was beginning to get dark, so she was having trouble spotting the filly’s dark coat. Meanwhile, Pinkie was using her speed and connections in Ponyville to get the entire town searching, while the other three ponies were searching the streets. Suddenly, four of the ponies heard Pinkie yell; “Gotcha!” across the town. The four quickly made their way to Pinkie, who was holding down the filly to the street. “Pinkie!” Fluttershy yelled; “Be careful! She’s just a scared little girl!” Pinkie looked down, deciding that Fluttershy was right, getting up off of the filly as the other four surrounded them. Pinkie joined the circle, “Sorry, unknown filly that looks surprisingly like Twilight!” Rarity glared at her not to antagonize, before clearing her throat and looking back at the girl. “Darling, why ever would you run from us?” She asked the filly, who looked back at her in confusion; “You mean, you weren’t going to hurt me?” Rarity looked appalled, “Hurt you? Why in Equestria would we do that?” The filly seemed to blush, “I thought you were servants of Nightmare Moon come to take me back” The mane 5 gasped at the mention of the evil incarnation of the moon. “But Nightmare Moon’s been gone for almost a year now Sugarcube.” Applejack said reassuringly. “The six- I mean five of us stopped her when she returned from the moon.” The filly looked panicked by this information; “N-no, she’s been back for more than twenty years!” The other five ponies looked around nervously; “I think it’s time that we went back to the library for a little chat, huh? Suggested Applejack. As they made their way back to the library, each was unsure what to think: Fluttershy was thinking of Twilight, hoping her friend was ok, Rainbow was worried about the filly; and how she had mentioned Nightmare Moon, Rarity was more worried about the filly herself, Applejack was wondering what to do next; normally Twilight was the one with a plan, and Pinkie; well Pinkie was thinking of dessert as she bounced along. The group managed to get back to the library without any trouble, whe- Mmm, truffle. What? No! I said trouble Pinkie! How did you even get in here? I dunno, should I go back? Please do. Um, anyway, when they got back, Aj locked the door, then turned around to look at the unknown filly; “Alright, now that we’re back in private, you have some explaining to do, little filly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Selene didn’t have a clue where she was. She had been running from bat pony guards, and she hadn’t watched where she was going. She rubbed the spot on her head where she’d the rocks, and she winced; it was sore and a little swollen, the next thing she knew, she’d woken up in an unknown place, surrounded by ponies she didn’t recognize, and all she could think was that she’d been captured. But they seemed so kind; she’d never seen genuine kindness before, it was strange to her. Selene was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn’t notice them walking back into the library. She was pulled back to reality when she heard the lock on the front door click and she started to panic. Did the pony lock it so that the group wouldn’t be interrupted, or so that Selene couldn’t escape? Either way, Selene’s instincts were all telling her she would have to fight. “Alright, now that we’re all in private again;” said the orange pony, “We have a couple a’ questions for you, little filly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Applejack didn’t know what to do next. She was terrified: Twilight was gone, so Aj had tried to act as some kind of leader in her stead. But things were crumbling; both around her, and inside. She didn’t care if Twilight sprouted wings, she just wanted her back. She just wasn’t prepared for this, another pony showed up, claiming to be running from Nightmare Moon. It was killing Aj to stay calm without Twilight here to come up with some kind of plan to help the poor filly: take charge, find a solution! Aj’s mind was racing, trying to figure out what to do, and she realized that everypony else was looking at her. She blushed and cleared her throat; “Let’s start simple, who the hay are you?” The filly looked confused; “You don’t know who I am?” she asked. Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, “If we did, we wouldn’t be asking, would we?” The filly shook her head; “sorry, I’m just not used to having people not recognize me.” Aj rotated her hoof in the air, creating a “get to the point” gesture. The filly stood tall and set her shoulders back, reminiscent of the royal posture; “I am Selene Night, daughter of Princess Twilight Sparkle!” > Chapter 2: Where does the Twilight go when the Sun Rises? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight woke up in pitch blackness, and immediately thinks “Am I dead?” If this was heaven, then Twilight didn’t like it. It was too dark, too cramped and- wait was that water? She felt something dripping onto her flank from above. She tried to move her hoof, but found that it was chained to the ground. She concentrated, attempting to break the chain with magic, but to no avail. “There must be some magic cancellation on the chains.” She struggled against the bonds and shouted; “Hey! Let me out of here!” This continued for what Twilight could guess was a half-hour before a door opened, finally allowing some light into the chamber, blinding Twilight at first, but she didn’t care. “Thank Celestia!” She said, I was worried that no one would-.” She stopped as her vision cleared, and she gasped at the figure before her. “Shut up.” The Bat-Pony said. “The Queen has requested to see you.” The chains undid themselves, and Twilight was roughly dragged outside the chamber. She was lifted to her hooves as she was struck speechless by the sight of where she was. The dark stonework of the chamber had opened into a lavish lavender hall, with trim so dark that it was almost black. But the most interesting thing was that Twilight knew where she was. It was more extravagant and in much better shape than she remembered, but the stonework, tapestries, and the view outside all confirmed that she was being held prisoner in the Castle of the Two Sisters. The guard shoved Twilight forward. Twilight glared back at him, but began walking. If there was one thing that Princess Celestia had taught her (and Cadence for that matter) it was how to keep cool under pressure. She examined her surroundings as she walked, and this only confirmed her suspicions, as she saw the mountain tops around the castle. Only one thing was different, she saw no tree tops, no strange animals, nothing. The entire everfree forest was missing. Twilight hadn’t been watching where she was going as she slammed into a large oak door, the guard having not bothered to stop her. Twilight knew better than to speak up as she rubbed her muzzle The guard opened the door to reveal a room even more extravagantly designed than the hall. It seemed to be a mirror image of Celestia’s throne room, only with a hue of nightshade. The worst part was that the pony sitting on the throne was not Princess Celestia, but instead the pony that had plagued Twilights nightmares for the past year: Nightmare Moon. “H-how is this possible?” Twilight pleaded, backing in the guard, who shoved her into the room and closed the door. “Come forward, we need to speak with you.” The evil spirit in front of her spoke. Twilight didn’t want to, but her legs began moving on their own until she was directly in front of the horrifying Queen of the Night. She tried to stand tall in front of her original foe, but her legs were shaking and she probably looked as cowardly as she felt. Nightmare Moon stared down at her, malice in her dragon-shaped eyes. “I don’t know who you are,” spoke the Dark Alicorn; “But you are not Twilight Sparkle!”
