The first season of an Equestriatale series. Monsters and ponies together in Equestria. What could possibly go wrong? A lot actually. From miscast spells to giant Equestrian beasts to other hilarious hijinks, there's a lot that goes on in the lives of ponies and monsters.
King Asgore Dreemurr sits patiently at the end of the table in the meeting hall of Twilight's Castle. Twilight had left to fetch the royal sisters from Canterlot. He stayed behind to wait for the arrival of Sans and Frisk.
"What a lovely castle. A bit too crystally for my tastes. Maybe Princess Twilight will allow me to brighten it up with some golden flowers."
"Maybe." The new voice causes Asgore to drop his empty tea cup suddenly. He looks behind his chair to see Spike, Twilight's assistant.
"Hello there. Spike, is it?"
"That's me."
"Do you agree that the castle needs more flowers?"
"Yeah, but I don't think Twilight will go for it. She had her friends decorate the castle for her. You know, to brighten things up. It was a disaster. They settled for a tree root chandelier."
"They used tree roots as a chandelier?
"Yup, with crystals hanging from it. Each crystal has a different memory imprinted inside."
"How interesting. Alphys will love to hear that. Where is this chandelier? May I see it?"
"It's in the throne room, but you can't go see it now. You have to wait for Twilight."
"Of course." They sit awkwardly in silence.
~Elsewhere~
Within a cave at the base of Canterlot Mountain, a masked pair of stallions, a pegasus and a unicorn, are hard at work on a large pony-shaped robot. The pegasus pulls a lever on a nearby control panel and the robot lights up.
"Good. It works." The unicorn says. "Now we wait for the arrival of the twins."
"Isn't this a bit overkill?" The pegasus asks.
"Are you questioning me?" The unicorn responds.
"No. I'm just wondering why we need such a large robot for this simple mission."
"There is nothing simple about it. The princesses, as well as the monsters, will be there. We need to be able to fight back." The boss steps out of the cave and pulls out a pair of binoculars. He looks up the side of the mountain, and puts them back when he fails to find what he is looking for. A yell alerts him to the arrival of a pair of masked unicorns. The first removes his mask, revealing a red/white maned yellow face.
"We've returned with the battery you wanted, boss." He announces. "Flam thought the T-41 was the one we should take-"
"-While Flim thought the D-57 was the better choice." His mustachioed brother adds.
"Fools." The boss says. "I gave you explicit orders to retrieve the ZF-88 battery."
"We figured you wanted a certain battery-" Flam says.
"-So we grabbed them all." Flim concludes.
"Xylo!" The boss yells to his masked partner. "Insert the ZF-88 into the machine. Put the rest into storage."
"By your command." Xylo retrieves a filled sack from Flim and hurries back into the cave. He inserts the specified battery into the back of the robot. The robot stands up fully on all four hooves and glows brightly.
"As for you two..." The boss reveals a serrated knife. "If you tell anypony about this plan. I will personally slit both your throats."
"D-d-duly noted." The brothers respond. The boss begins to walk back into the cave, but stops.
"On second thought, you will come with us. Get into the robot."
"By your c-command." The terrified brothers dart into the cave and climb into the robot. Xylo follows them.
"It's time." The boss says as he climbs into the bot.
"We have a human to catch."
~Twilight's Castle~
Spike breaks the silence with a loud belch. A scroll appears in front of him.
"What is that?" Asgore asks.
"A scroll from Princess Celestia. She says they are on their way. And they're bringing Cadence."
"Cadence? Who is that?"
"Another princess. She rules the Crystal Empire."
"There is a Crystal Empire? I will be sure to ask her when they arrive."
"How about now?" Spike points to the doors. When they open, instead of the princesses as Spike predicts, Sans and Frisk appear in the doorway.
"heya fluffybuns." Sans announces. He snaps his fingers and disappears. He reappears lounging in one of the chairs.
"Sans. I thought we talked about not calling me that."
"you know i hate makin' promises."
"There they are." Spike announces. Twilight appears in the doorway, accompanied by Celestia, Luna, and Cadence.
"I'm back Asgore." Twilight says.
"Just in time too." The king adds, nodding toward Sans and Frisk.
"Great." Twilight looks towards Spike. "Spike. Do you mind?"
"Yeah yeah." Spike leaves the room.
"Now we can begin." Asgore looks around. "Frisk. Where is Sans?"
"lookin' for me?" Sans shouts down from a chandelier.
"Sans, please get down from there."
"alright." Sans stands and falls backwards off of the chandelier. Moments before he hits the ground, he teleports into the chair next to Frisk, opposite Asgore and the princesses. "so. what'ya want to talk about?"
"We'd like to discuss how you defeated Dr. Gaster." Asgore starts.
"ask away."
"How did you remember Dr. Gaster while everyone else did not?"
"i have a better memory than you." He responds. Frisk kicks his leg.
"fine kid, but they won't believe me."
"Tell them anyways."
"alright. i have this... power. it lets me-" He is cut off by sudden and loud crash. A robotic hoof crashes through the ceiling, nearly hitting Frisk. A claw extends from the hoof, releasing a letter on the floor. It then grabs Frisk and renters the hoof. The hoof then pulls out and leaves. Everyone stands and stares at the hole with dropped jaws and wide-eyes. Sans shrugs.
Asgore, Spike, and the assembled princesses all stare in shock at the gaping hole in the ceiling. Sans shrugs again and laughs.
"ha ha! you should see the looks on your faces! it's hilarious!" He cracks up. Suddenly, a strange mishmash creature appears next to him.
"I know! Simply priceless!" Discord laughs along with him. The princesses frown at their newest guest, and Twilight approaches him.
"You didn't have anything to do with this, did you Discord?!" She interrogates him.
"Of course not. I'm reformed, remember? I would never do such a thing." The draconnequis replies.
"Uh-huh." Twilight sarcastically says back. "Why are you here?"
"To laugh at your misfortune. I'm the spirit of chaos. You can't have chaos like this happen and NOT have me show up."
"Do you know who did it?"
"Of course I do. I passed them on my way in."
"who was it?!" Sans demands. "where are they?!"
Discord smirks. "I can't just tell you that. It would spoil the fun. I can say that two of them are a pair of conponies that my dear friend Princess Twilight are familiar with." He grows a red and white mustache and spawns a blue and white striped shirt.
"The Flim Flam Brothers?" Twilight responds.
"Precisely."
"How could we even track them?"
"I don't know. Maybe with that letter over there." He stretches his arm across the room and points down at the paper. "Have a dog sniff it or something. I've got to go."
"Wait! You can't just-" Twilight is cut off by Discord's leaving. "go yet."
"he's gone you know." Sans says.
"I know. What does that letter say?"
"doesn't matter. probably has some demands or something on it."
"Well, Applejack has a dog who can sniff them out for you. Winona's the best sniffer in-"
"i've already got some people in mind."
"-Ponyville."
~Monsterville~
A small group of dog monsters were gathered around one of the tables in their home, known appropriately as the Doghouse. They were attempting to play Poker, but to no avail.
"How am I supposed to play cards if I can't see what's on them?" The black faced dog, Doggo, exclaims.
"Why did you agree to play?" The mustachioed dog, Dogamy, replies. His wife, Dogaressa, nods in agreement.
"You didn't expect me to sit over there alone, did you?"
"Doggo, quit complaining." Dogaressa snaps at him.
"Fine. I'll go play solitaire then."
"That requires cards too."
"Yup." The large armored dog, Greater Dog, says. His smaller counterpart, Lesser Dog, nods in agreement. The tiny white dog just rolls around on the floor. Suddenly, Sans teleports into the middle of the room, directly in front of Doggo. Doggo runs into him.
"What the? Who's there?"
"sup doggo. guess you still can't see things that aren't moving, huh?"
"No thanks to you."
"i told you it was an accident. anyways, i need your help. frisk was kidnapped."
"What?" Doggo replies.
"No!" The dog couple say in unison.
"Who?" Greater Dog asks.
"The human." Lesser Dog tells him.
"No!"
"i know. i'll take you to twilight's castle and we can start there. hold tight." The dogs all hold hands. Sans grabs Doggo's shoulder and teleports the group into the conference room of Twilight's castle. The princesses and Asgore had all left, but Spike was left to clean.
"What's that smell?" Doggo asks.
"Smells metally." Greater Dog responds.
"I think you mean metallic." Lesser Dog corrects his big friend's grammar.
"It seems like it goes that way." Dogamy says, pointing east.
"And that way." Dogaressa adds, pointing south.
"Bark!" The little white dog yelps as he points toward the north.
"alright. dogi, go south." Dogamy and Dogaressa salute and exit the room. "greater and lesser dogs, go east." Lesser Dog nods, and leads his big partner out. "Doggo, take that little dog and go north."
"What little dog? I don't see-" Doggo is interrupted by the dog jumping into his crossed arms. "You annoying little..." He grumbles as he leaves the hall.
"What are you going to do?" Spike asks.
"wait for them to get back." Sans responds as he lounges back in a chair.
~Later~
Sans is awoken by the small white dog licking and slobbering on his face. He sits up to see not only the Canine Unit, but King Asgore, Undyne, and Frisk.
"hey kid. how'd you get back so soon?" He asks groggily.
"They just... let me go for some reason. It seemed like they just sorta, opened the claw while they were moving and I got out."
"We found her along the northern path." Doggo reports. "The little white dog said there were big hoofprints in the ground, but I didn't see anything."
"There was nothing to the south." Dogamy says.
"The smell vanished at the edge of town." Dogaressa says.
"Nothing to the east either. No smell past town." Lesser Dog reports.
"Undyne, could you go north with 01 and 02 to check for any trace of the kidnappers." Asgore asks.
"Of course, Your Highness." Undyne bows, then leaves the hall.
"We'll be going too." Dogamy says. "It's almost Greater Dog's bedtime." The dogs wave goodbye, and all help with supporting the weight of a very sleepy Greater Dog.
"well. i'm sure we'll be seein more of them kidnappers soon. they'll notice that their prize has disappeared."
"We'll just have to be prepared for anything."
"that's right kid. what is it that you say when things get tough?"
Alphys sits in her new underground laboratory and continues on reassembling the old Determination Extractor. She tries to rebuild it from memory, because she misplaced the original plans.
"I wish I hadn't left the plans in the old lab." She mumbles to herself as she disassembles part of the machine that she had put together wrong. Her work is interrupted by the door to the lab being slammed shut accompanied by a loud shout.
"Alphys, darling, are you there?!"
"In here Mettaton!" Alphys shouts back. A moment later, the robot t.v. star sticks his head into the room. His hair is disheveled, and he appears upset. "Oh my. What's wrong?"
"Absolutely everything!" Mettaton enters the room in a bathrobe and falls to the floor. Alphys becomes slightly annoyed.
"Would you care to be more specific?"
"It is so awful, I don't even want to think about it." He covers his face and begins sobbing.
"How am I supposed to help you if I don't know what's wrong?"
"I don't know. Throw a party or something. I just need to forget this tragic occurrence."
"Fine." Alphys says. She stands and heads toward the door. "Go home and sleep for a bit. It'll take your mind off things."
"What are you doing?"
"Don't worry about it. I know exactly what I'm doing."
~Ponyville Town Square~
"I have no idea what I'm doing."
Alphys stands in the middle of the crowded square. Every time she tries to move, she gets pushed back.
"How is it so crowded here? This is a small town."
"I don't know. It makes no sense." A random stallion is pushed into her.
"Do you happen to know any party planners?"
"Yes I do. In fact, I know two."
"One, a fellow by the name of Cheese Sandwich, is out of town, and the other is at Sugarcube Corner. A Miss Pinkie Pie."
"Do you happen to know where that is?"
"That-a-way." He points.
"Thanks. What's your name?"
"You can call me the Doctor." He then vanishes in the crowd. Alphys forces her way through the barrier of ponies in the direction the Doctor had pointed, eventually arriving at cupcake topped building.
"Oh. This is where Muffet's shop is." She sighs. "I could have found it myself." She enters the Sugarcube Corner half of the building and approaches the counter. A blue mare, the co owner of the store named Mrs. Cake, waits at the counter.
"What can I get for you dear?" Mrs. Cake asks.
"Actually, I'm looking for a Pinkie Pie, and I was told this is where I could find her."
"Oh, I don't know." She looks to the back. "Honey, is Pinkie here?"
"She left a few hours ago to make a delivery." Her husband answers.
"Sorry." Mrs. Cake apologizes.
"It's fine." Alphys leaves the shop and returns to her lab.
"What am I going to do?" She asks herself. She suddenly has a great idea. "I'll make a party myself. Well... not all by myself. I'll go get some help!"
~Monsterville~
Alphys knocks on the door of a particular home in Monsterville. The homeowner, a large bipedal wolf known as Ice Wolf, answers.
"Hey Doctor Alphys." Ice Wolf greets her.
"Hi Ice Wolf. I have a favor to ask. Mettaton is feeling down and I want to throw him a party, so I was wondering if you could carve him out of an ice block for me."
"Sure. When do you need it?"
"Tonight. Around eight."
"Consider it done." Ice wolf closes the door.
Alphys next walks over to Asgore's house and knocks. The king answers.
"Howdy Alphys. What brings you by?" He greets her.
"Hello Your Highness. I have a favor to ask. Would you mind donating some of your flowers to make bouquets for a party? Mettaton is feeling down and I figured a party would cheer him up."
"Of course. I'll get right on it." The king closes the door.
Alphys walks over to the ghost DJ Nabstablook's house. Nabstablook doesn't answer the door. Instead, he glides through the wall.
"Hi Nabstablook."
"Hi Alphys." Nabstablook sadly answers..
"Would you be able to play some of your music at a party later? It's for Mettaton."
"Oh. Okay."
"Great."
"Great." The ghost then glides back into his house.
Alphys goes to MTT Resort next, heading to the Burger Emporium. The cashier, Burgerpants, is lounging back in his chair with his feet up on the counter.
"Hi Burgerpants." Alphys startles him, and he falls backwards.
"Heya Doctor Alphys. Can I take your order?" The cat nervously responds.
"I'm not here to eat. I was wondering if you would be willing to donate food for a party later."
"Sorry. We don't do donations."
"The party is for Mettaton." Burgerpants' ears perk up
"The food'll be ready at seven."
"Perfect."
~Monsterville Town Square~
Alphys and the royal guards finish setting up the tables.
"Thanks guys."
"Your like, welcome Alphys." 01 says back. 02 only nods. As they leave, Ice Wolf arrives.
"Uhm, Alphys?"
"Yes Ice Wolf?"
"We have a bit of a problem. I finished the Mettaton carving an hour ago, but it's sorta... melted."
"What?!"
"We won't be having any flowers either." Asgore says as he arrives. "I'm afraid all of mine are too fragile to pick."
"My soundboard short circuited." Nabstablook says. "Sorry."
"The food all burnt." Burgerpants says. "Freakin newbies don't know how to work an oven."
"Oh no. What am I gonna do?" Alphys curls up into a ball on the ground.
"Perhaps I can ask for some flowers from my co workers at the flower shop." Asgore suggests. Alphys uncurls.
"That's perfect! You can do that!" She thinks for a moment. "Nabstablook, there's a DJ in Ponyville. You could have her bring a soundboard."
"Okay."
"And Burgerpants, you could go talk to Grillby about getting some food, and Muffet for some dessert."
"Whatever."
"Ice Wolf, Princess Twilight can use her magic to carve a statue in an instant. All you have to do is supply the ice block."
"On it."
"And I can go get Mettaton. Go! Let's get started!" The group goes to their separate destinations. An hour later, the party is set. Grillby is cooking burgers and Muffet is baking donuts while Burgerpants serves them. Nabstablook and Ponyville's Dj, DJ Pon3, stand behind the new soundboard. Ice wolf directs a number of fans toward the ice statue while Twilight puts the finishing touches on it. Asgore and the flower sisters finish setting the bouquets on each table. Alphys leads a blindfolded Mettaton to the square.
"Okay, take off your blindfold." Mettaton removes the blindfold to reveal an entire party dedicated to him.
"A party? For me?"
"Yep. I planned it to cheer you up."
"Thank you so much darling!" He immediately gets swept up in the festivities, and everyone has a good time. Later, Alphys finally gets the chance to talk to Mettaton again.
"What was it that put you in such a bad mood?"
"Oh. I had woken up with a dreadful bedhead." Alphys becomes annoyed.
