Sunset, Twilight and their friends sat in the camp’s cafeteria shack watching Fluttershy and Pinkie baking cookies. From a safe distance, of course.

“Hey, girls!” Sunset tried to start a conversation. “Do you also have that strange feeling, that something is wrong?”

The redhead got a few confused looks from her friends until Rarity voiced her thoughts. “What do you mean with ‘something is wrong‘?”

“That’s the thing. I don’t really know. It’s like a voice in my head saying… or rather shouting, that something is wrong or shouldn’t be there at all.”

“Did you maybe just forgot something important?”

“I don’t think that’s it.”

“Did some kind of faceless monster make you forget something important?”

“No, Pinkie, I think I would remember that.”

“You can’t know.”

“Let us save this idea for later, Pinkie.” Twilight offered. “How about we go over everything that happened so far?”

“Good idea. So… a girl went crazy with equestrian magic, we ponied-up to save everyone with friendship and gained new superpowers in the end like the first three times. Nothing unusual here… well except the obvious.”

Rainbow stood up. “Don’t forget that awesome moment, when Twilight flew up, struck out her hand,” –Rainbow copied the pose– “and used her force to pull out these crystals!”

Wait! ‘Flew up‘?, Sunset thought.

She didn’t even realize the conversation about the camp’s saving went on without her. Sunset was lost in thought until she–

“TWILIGHT GOT WINGS!”

–interrupted even the narrator.

“Well yeah, like Fluttershy, me and her princess doppelgänger. What’s the big deal?”

“You and Fluttershy, or rather your pony versions, are pegasi, that’s normal. But Twilight’s counterpart is, or was, a unicorn. She only got her wings later! So when human Twilight ponied-up, she should have been a unicorn without a horn, like me and Rarity!” Sunset answered faster than usual.

The girls were surprised by Sunset’s sudden outburst. Again, Rarity composed herself first and spoke up.

“Sunset, darling, how about you… ehm… calm down first and then you try to tell us again, what the actual problem is?”

Sunset took a moment to look at the surprised faces of the other girls. She only now realised, that she stood up during her small rant. She sat down again and shrunk back visibly.

“It showed again, right?”

Though most of her friends seemed to understand directly what she said, Twilight still asked.

“What do you mean it?”

Sunset took a deep breath. “It’s a bit embarrassing, but I already told the others, so you should know it, too. I may suffer from something called… wing envy.”

She saw an even more confused look on Twilight’s face (and Rainbow’s, too, for some reason), so she continued.

“Wing envy is a stage theorized by Sigmare Freud regarding the unicorn’s psychological development, in which unicorn adolescents experience anxiety upon realization that they don’t have wings.” Twilight seemed to understand, while Rainbow looked even more confused. “In short I’m jealous of ponies with wings, especially alicorns, because they have wings and magic.”

“Oh yes, that was it!”

The others ignored Rainbow and Sunset continued.

“I thought I finally got over it when I became friends with princess Twilight. And without the help of you girls I wouldn’t have made it, either.”

The girls gave collective “D’aww”s at this remark. But then Twilight’s curiosity got the better of her.

“And why did it show up now?”

“It probably just caught me off-guard.” Sunset responded. “I mean I could accept princess Twilight getting wings, because she kinda earned them for de-corrupting another princess, defeating and befriending a chaos god, stopping the invasion of an evil race and repairing an old spell.

“But you–” Sunset voice rose a bit higher. “–well, the only thing you did was being corrupted by magic, transforming into a (rather hot) evil she-demon–” Twilight blushed a bit. “–and then learning to control said magic.

“I on the other hoof–” Her voice got faster and even higher. “–got turned into a she-demon, too, but I also helped against three mind-controlling sirens and defeated your she-demon by using the magic of friendship to transform into a freakin’ angel!”

A few of Sunset’s strands got loose and her friends became concerned.

“Heck, your superpower is basic levitation while mine is literally empathy!” Sunset basically shouted the last word. She then proceeded to mad laughing.

After a short pause the other girls slowly started to back off of Sunset and her manic grin, when suddenly Sunset tried to grab Twilight over the table.

“THESE ARE MY WINGS!”

Luckily Rainbow and Applejack reacted fast enough and held Sunset back before she reached Twilight.

“LET ME GO! I ONLY WANT WHAT IS RIGHTFULLY MINE!”

Both took each an arm of Sunset and pulled her back.

“WAIT! I FORGOT MY WINGS ON THE TABLE! SHE ONLY GOT THEM FOR PLOT CONVENIENCE! THEY ARE MIIIIINNNNNEEEE…”

The doors closed behind Sunset muffling most of her random shouting.

The remaining girls went back to what they did before as if nothing happened. Except Twilight, who still stood there completely dumbfounded.

“Can someone explain to me what just happened?”

Rarity delivered the explanation. “Well, darling, that was the ugly side of Sunset’s wing envy. Sometimes when she works up herself too much about wings she can become–”

*SLAM*

Sunset stood in the doorway somehow looking even crazier than before.

“I DESERVE THESE WIN–”

Applejack tackled her to the ground from behind. She then proceeded to take the leg of the knocked out Sunset and pulled her out again.

“–like that." Rarity continued. "Don’t worry, we’ve already dealt with it a few times. Just… stay away from her for the next hours and she should calm down eventually.”

“Okay, if you say so. I just hope she’ll be alright.” Twilight responded unsure.

——————————

Applejack and Rainbow Dash stood before the sapphire-tent guarding its only exit to prevent Sunset from another escape attempt. Said redhead currently lay in her bed curled up in a ball and stroking the mane of a pink unicorn doll.

“D-D-Don’t worry, Little Twilight. Everything’s gonna be alright.” Sunset told the doll (and herself) in a shaky voice.

Suddenly she heard a strange buzzing sound. Sunset looked up and saw, that her magic journal was vibrating.

“M-Maybe writing the princess will distract me.”

She opened the book and read the newest message from the pony princess.

Dear Sunset Shimmer.
You won’t guess what just happened.
You know my student Starlight Glimmer, right?
You’ll never believe, but she just became an alicorn! Right, she grew wings! She will be a princess.
Maybe I should start at the beginning. It all started when–

Sunset had already stopped reading.

A few moments later a sudden scream shook the entire camp causing the dock to collapse the seventh time this week.
