I gasp awake from a terrible nightmare. By now you'd think I'd be used to them. I've always had these terrible nightmares, yet I never get less afraid. Am I really that big of a baby? I shake my head. Now is not the time to think of silly things like this. I get out of my bed and I slowly walk to my bathroom, my hooves making a light noise on the crystal floor. I turn on the tap and I splash some water on my face. I look at my reflection, my dark mane falling into my face, my light pink coat is so plain... The only thing that isn't boring about me is my eyes. They're so pretty. A nice blue-green mix, basically a light turquoise. Just as I was about to head back to bed, the alarm in the castle goes off. I immediately hear hooves on the floors as guards run through the castle. I run to my window, looking outside. Being unable to see anything due to the darkness of the night, I step out onto my balcony. I squint my eyes and I notice something on the ground, it looks shiny. I hop off my balcony, opening my small wings. I glide down to the object and I quickly realize it's my father's helmet. My eyes open wide and I look around quickly, he is no where to be seen. All is see is his helmet and... Blood.

Chapter One: Is He Dead?!

I stand, frozen in place. A light breeze tickling my face, gently blowing my mane and tail around. I stare at his helmet, my father no where to be seen. Guards are searching the empire, the castle, everywhere looking for him. I hear the clicking of hooves behind me and out of the corner of my eye I see my mother, Princess Cadence approaching.

"What is going on here?" She asks, looking at the guards. Nopony says anything. She frowns and looks at all of the guards before noticing my father's helmet. Her eyes open wide and she lets out a screech.

"Shining Armour?! What happened to him?! Where is he?!" One guard shakes his head, indicating that they don't know. My mother's eyes fill with tears and she lifts the helmet with her magic. She rests her forehead against it as a tear falls from her eye, hitting the ground. A couple guards decide to escort my mother back to her room. One trots over to me.

"Princess, you should join your mother." He says. I look at him and then out to the horizon. I swallow nervously and I shake my head. I want to find him. I know deep down inside he's not dead. There's no way he can be dead.

"No." I say. The guard frowns and he urges me to follow my mother. I let out a growl and I open my wings, taking off into the sky. The guard calls out to me but I ignore him. I look around, looking for any sign that would let me know where my father is. I don't find anything and I start to become very frustrated.

"Sugar Rush..." I hear my mother call my name gently. I turn and I look down at her. "Let's go home..." She continues. Not wanting to argue with my mom, I slowly fly back down to the ground. She gently pushes my mane out of face and she forces a gentle smile. The guards continue escorting her back into our home and I follow slowly. I look over my shoulder one last time before the doors close.

"Dad.. Please... Come back.."

Chapter 2: Desperation.

Once returning to my room, my mother kisses my forehead and I watch as she slowly walks back to her room, head down, ears back. I can tell she is devastated, as I am too. I slowly close my door, hearing the click. I lock the door and I slowly walk over to my bed, sulking. I sit there, staring at the floor. I take a shaky breath and the tears start to stream down my cheeks. I never really got to spend time with my dad as he was always busy with being Captain of the Guard and he was always helping my mom with royal duties. And now I feel terrible. An idea suddenly pops into my head and I start to debate over it. After a couple minutes of debating, I decide to go with the idea, no matter how much I'll regret it. I get up and I head over to my desk, pulling open a drawer with my hoof. I rummage through the drawer before pulling out a book. I light a candle and I sit down, starting to read. I eventually find what I'm looking for. A transformation spell. No one will let me out of the empire if I look like myself, so if I can change how I look, I could go and search for my father. I read the spell one last time before I start to chant it out loud. As I chant a dark looking smoke starts to surround me. It all swirls around me before it all starts to bunch up at my chest and I soon start to feel a terrible pain. I let out a scream and I grab my head, feeling a sharp pain and it feels like my head is throbbing. The pain starts to spread through my body and I start to cry from pain. I hear my door trying to be opened, but since I had locked it, whoever is trying to get in, can't. I then hear banging on the door as somepony is trying to break in. My vision starts to fade and I fall to the ground, curling up in pain as I see the door break open, my mom and a couple guards come in, all looking worried.

"SUGAR RUSH!!!" My mom screams and she goes to run to me but she gets stopped by a guard. He scans me, looking around the room, trying to find the cause. He finds the book and using his magic her picks it up. He looks at it.

"It's dark magic.." He explains. "This book is written to seem like a normal spell book, but it's a dark magic book, written by Sombra himself... I can help her, but what she's done to herself will remain, it is a curse. I will be able to stop it, but if her emotions get out of control, the curse will take over." He looks at my mom and she nods. He looks back at me and he picks my up with his magic, not allowing anypony to get near me. He starts to pull the dark magic from me, it slowly seeping from the tip of my wings, somehow. He makes it disperse and I scream in pain and I struggle around, wanting this all to stop. He manages to get all the dark magic he can out and he gently sets me down on the floor, using a sleep spell on me.

"She likely wont remember what happened when she wakes up. You'll need to explain this to her..." He tells my mother. She takes a deep breath and she nods. She gently carries me to my bed and she tucks me in, kissing my forehead. She looks at me and she sighs.

"My precious little girl... I've already lost your father... I can't lose you too. Rest well, sweetie... I love you..." And with that, they leave me to rest.
