Welcome to Ponyville

"Next stop: Ponyville!"

I look out the window to see my new home. It's a lot smaller than Manehattan, that's for sure. I shuffle out with everypony else and look at my surroundings.

The village seems cozy enough. The houses and shops are decorated in a way that lends them simplistic beauty, not fancy enough to be opulent, yet not so plain as to be homely.

I take out the piece of paper with my address written on it. "1759 Muffin Avenue huh?" I look around. "Now if I can just find a station worker."

I walk around the station, looking for somepony who could help me out. I finally found somepony who didn't look like they were too busy.

"Hey can you give me directions to this address?"

"Yea sure, you just go down Cherry street about five blocks and take a left," he pointed down the street "from there you go another two blocks. Thats where this address is."

"Thanks mister," I said as I turned down the indicated street, "have a nice day"

"You too and welcome to Ponyville, sir"

I trotted down Cherry street until I reached my turn and continued onto the next street.

As I headed down the street towards my new home I noticed some ponies that didn't look like the others. One of them had a black and red mane and tail, a light blue body, black hooves, and red eyes. He had on a black cape, and a red ankh necklace. His cutie mark was a red crescent moon surrounded by a halo of Light. When he saw me looking he flashed me a smile. His teeth were razor sharp and looked deadly. It made a chill run up my spine.

There was a filly standing next to him. She had a pink and yellow striped tail and mane, cyan colored coat, and lavender colored eyes. Atop her snout rested a pair of glasses. Her cutie mark was a window with pink curtains looking out at the moon.

They were playing ball in the yard.

"Catch it big brother!" The filly called out, kicking the ball to the older pony.

She kicked it a bit harder than she meant to, sending the ball towards the house. The older pony rushed to stop the ball before it ended up going through a window.

"Moon dreams you gotta be more careful," he kicked the ball back to her, "we don't really need a broken window."

Moon dreams looked at her brother dejectedly.

"Sorry big brother."

I stopped watching them to continue on towards my house, not wanting to waste too much more time

I finally made it to my new home. It was your standard two-story Ponyville house--nothing special about it, really. I took out the keys to my house and let myself in.

All of the furniture I had brought from my old home, albeit there was not much, had already arrived. What I did not bring I had sold off to help buy this place. As it is, it looked kinda empty, with only a small table with three chairs around it, a couch, a bed in my room, and a chest of drawers.

I sighed and walked over to my couch, sitting down on the comfortable cushions and thinking about the home I had left behind in Manehattan. This new house is smaller, although honestly I kinda prefer it that way.

I check my watch to see that it is 3:30. Still a few hours left until sunset, may as well go to the town square. I could use some groceries anyway.

I make my way to the square and as I arrive I look around at the stalls, hoping to find something to cook for dinner tonight. I finally settle on some potatoes, carrots, and other ingredients for stew. As I contemplated where to go next, I saw a bakery called Sugercube Corner. Having a bit of a sweet tooth, I figured it wouldn't hurt to at least stop and see if anything looked good.

I walk into the bakery and am amazed by the sight that awaits me. The desserts have desserts, I kid you not. The bakery smelled of many amazing scents, dough baking, fruits used in the pastries, fresh cupcakes straight out of the oven, I swear there is every kind of treat I could think of, from cakes to fritters, to dumplings, cupcakes, muffins, and so much more. My mouth started watering just thinking about it.

I turned towards the counter to see a pink pony taking orders. As I waited in line to order my food, I noticed that the pony seemed so energetic she might start bouncing off the walls at any time. I finally made it to the counter to place an order, thinking some nice cupcakes would make a good house warming treat.

"Hello ma'am, could I get a half a dozen of chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing?"

The pony continued to stare me down, a strange look on her face. It was a solid minute before she let out the longest most drawn out gasp I'd ever heard. I was about to ask if she was OK when she zipped to the back room faster than I thought was possible. As I stood there staring at the space where she had been, a blue mare with light and dark pink colored mane and tail came out with a box full of cupcakes.

"Terribly sorry about that, dear. Pinkie Pie gets a little excited sometimes," she said, hoofing the box over to me, "that will be six bits"

"Its OK," I said hoofing over the bits, "have a nice day."

"You too"

As I trot back home I find myself thinking about my bed. It has been a long day, and I am ready for a good nights sleep. Little did I know that ponyville might be even crazier than Manehattan was.

Time For a Job

View Online

I wake up the next morning ready to face the day. I'v got a new house, a new town, and things are looking up for me. I thought about what I had to do today, mentally making a list. First on the list is to find a job. Joy.

I walk into my kitchen to make some breakfast, wondering what to make. I finally settle on eggs and toast, figuring that would be a good meal if I was going to go job hunting.

As I ate I looked out the window, enjoying the view. I noticed that the strange pony and his little sister; moon dreams was it? Were outside enjoying the chill morning air. I decide to go over and introduce myself to my neighbors. Maybe they know a few job openings?

I walk over to their house to introduce myself, hoping to make a good impression.

"Hey neighbors," I call out waving a hoof at them, "how are you this fine day?"

"We are doing well," the older pony said, "just about to head to the market place. How about yourself?"

"I was kind of headed that way myself, maybe we could walk together?" I point towards myself. "I'm Skyler."

"My name is Crimson Eclipse, and this is my little sister, Moon Dreams" he pointed to the filly, "and yea, we could use the company."

"So what brings you to Ponyville?" Crimson asked.

I shrugged. "Just looking for a change of pace is all."

"Where did you come from?" Moon asks me.

"Manehattan. Its quite different compared to Ponyville." I glance over at them. "Say, you wouldn't happen to know of any job openings anywhere would you?"

"I don't know of any personally, but you could go check with the town hall." Crimson points to a building we are passing. "That's where ponies usually post help wanted ads."

"Thanks, I think I'll go check it out." I wave to them as I head towards the indicated building.

It was taller than most of the other buildings around it. It looks like it has three floors total, each having its own outside balcony. The building itself is rather circular in shape and ringed with windows.

I walk into the building and look around. To my left there is a little waiting area, with some chairs for those who are waiting on appointments. To my right there are a line of clerks, looking at their papers, chatting with each other, or just looking bored in general.

I walk over to the clerk, hoping she would stop her conversation and help me. I wait. And wait. Still waiting.

Finally, as I am really starting to get agitated, she deems that I might just be worthy of a bit of her time and looks over to me.

"Can I help you?" She asked with a bored expression.

"Yea I was wondering if there were any job openings around town?"

She looks at her papers for a moment before looking back at me.

"As it happens we do have a few openings," she lays a couple of papers in front of me. They seem to be applications.

"We have a spot available with the weather patrol too. Seems like that would be your specialty."

"Sure, that's actually what I did back in Manehattan." I take the application from her and head back to the waiting area to fill it out.

When I finish filling out the papers I walk back and hand them to the clerk.

"OK expect a letter in the mail within the week." She looks back over to her co worker and resumes their conversation. Guess my work here is done.

As I am leaving the building I notice Crimson Eclipse and Moon Dreams sitting at a table outside of a restaurant. Crimson sees me and waves at me. I walk over and join them at their table.

"Hey guys what's up?" I pick up a menu to look it over.

"Oh not much just decided to stop and grab a bite to eat while we were out in town."

"Crimson I want some ice cream!."

"I only brought enough bits for the groceries and the meal Moon Dreams. Maybe tomorrow."

"But I want some now!"

Crimson looks over at his sister and facehooves. He takes out his wallet and opens it looking inside. Shaking his head he puts his wallet back up.

"I'm sorry Moon I just didn't bring enough with me."

"Awwwwwwww" Moon Dreams looks sadly at the menu.

"What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?" I ask pointing to the menu.

"Strawberry"

I call out to a waiter

"Could I get 3 scoops of strawberry ice cream, please?"

"Coming right up sir"

I look over at Moon Dreams. She is positively beaming in my direction. Crimson Eclipse is chuckling at her response.

The waiter drops off the ice cream and moves on to attend to the other diners. Moon Dreams starts digging into her treat, strawberry ice cream flying everywhere.

"Thanks for that," Crimson Eclipse looks at his sister. " I will pay you back."

"Don't even worry about it," I say chuckling "I'd say that look was payment enough."

We sit there and chat for a bit as Moon Dreams eats her dessert. Turns out Crimson and Moon Dreams moved to Ponyville from Fillydelphia, so they knew how it felt to be in a completely new area.

When I asked about Fillydelphia, however, Moon Dreams stopped eating her ice cream to give Crimson a sad look. He didn't seem to want to talk about how things had been there so I dropped the issue.

As it turned out Crimson Eclipse had been looking after Moon Dreams since he was nineteen. I decided to leave that subject alone for now.

We all finish our food and get up to leave. I decide to join them as we walked back to our neighborhood.

"Thanks for pointing me towards the town hall earlier," I said to Crimson Eclipse, "it really helped."

"No problem, after all I know how it feels to end up somewhere new." He looks at Moon Dreams, who is quietly humming to herself. "The big difference is I had her to look after, I suppose."

"Can I ask what happened to your parents?" I ask looking over at them.

"Its a long story that I would rather not talk about right now."

After that we chatted a bit more until we get to their house. I bid them goodbye and head to my own home for the night. As I lay down my head is full of thoughts that I can't really put together until I get some rest. With that I close my eyes and go to sleep.
