Hello, curious reader! You are listening to I, Princess Luna! But, um, in my current physical form, you would refer to me as Nightmare Moon. Before I speak of the Elements of Harmony, I'll have you know that Luna and Nightmare Moon are one in the same! Nightmare Moon is Luna as Luna is Nightmare Moon.
Okay. Now that I got that out of my system, I suppose I must begin my story.
The first time I was hit by the Elements of Harmony, I had finally gone under metamorphosis and became Nightmare Moon. But in order for my metamorphosis to occur, the moon needed to be placed in front of the sun. It was not for eternal night, but for me to mature. Without metamorphosis, alicorns couldn't grow.
Though I must explain further on this metamorphosis, shouldn't I?
Alicorns have the ability to go under metamorphosis when they can exceptionally wield their powers and are ready to mature. Celestia had gone under metamorphosis a while ago, and that is why her hair use to be pink. When going under metamorphosis, one may choose their new appearance. Celestia made minor changes.
I, however, gave myself sharp teeth for I had an addiction to gems. I gave my wings a much more majestic quality. I made my coat black as night, and my mane and tail became similar to nebulas. My eyes became dragon-like for I wanted them to be more adapted to the dark. Lastly, I warped my birth mark to be purple instead of black because it's rather difficult to see black on black!
Anyway... Before I had gone under metamorphosis, I felt rather neglected and unloved. Celestia didn't even have time for me anymore... ~sniffles~ B-but she also took the affection I deserved. Our subjects praised for both day and night! Surely you must understand my frustration.
Once Celestia saw my new appearance, she viewed me as a threat. I don't know why. I was still LunaAfter our short battle in the sky, she equipped herself with the Elements of Harmony and banished me to the moon.
Now, the Elements reflect the subject's heart, obey the user's wishes, or do the best to keep harmony.
For my first experience with them, they obeyed the user's wishes. To keep me safe, but to keep me away from ponies. Because of the vagueness, the Elements of Harmony banished me to the moon. You know, that big space rock that was part of my SOUL!!

The second time with the Elements, they obeyed the former user's wishes: to 'purify' me into my normal, weak self.
I... I had never felt so frail until that moment. Celestia stood over me; she stood menacingly and regally.

I knew no love or affection or any emotion. I knew only chaos. I never knew my parents. I was rejected by all creatures. I was never satisfied, even after creating a few companions: chimera, hydra, manticore, griffin, minotour. The works. Society wouldn't accept me. I was too different. And no one wants a different creature in their society. ~sigh~ I've never felt love before Fluttershy. She's an angel.
Then, Twilight and her friends wanted me to turn back to stone, so Equestria would be safe again. They believed I was corrupting harmony. Silly ponies, I was corrupting order. Harmony is balance. I was restoring harmony.
No, I'm serious! Chaos is the opposite of order, not harmony. Chaos is part of harmony.
