> Unexpected Emotions > by MidnightBlaze16 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 - Realization > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- KNOCK KNOCK The door was surrounded by a purple aura and opened to reveal the newest Princess, Twilight Sparkle. “HI Rainbow! Ready for our reading session!” Twilight asked “Yep!” said Twilight’s prismatic friend. “Though I finished the last Daring Do book a few nights ago, so I’ll need a new series to read,” she said, rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. “That’s fine. I actually wanted to show this series I found. It’s rather different to Daring Do but I’m sure you’ll like it,” Twilight said, inviting Rainbow inside the library she called her home. “OK then?” Rainbow followed Twilight and got settled into her usual reading position on the carpet by the fire and watching Twilight walked over to a bookcase to find the book she was looking for, watching her flank for a bit longer than she should have. Twilight walked over, book in aura and settled down next to rainbow, her side against Rainbow’s, causing the pegasus’s cheeks to heat up. ‘I still don’t know why that happens…’ she thought. Twilight put the book down between them. On the cover was a grey and purple maned kinda nerdy-looking pegasus stallion and a brash and more cool-looking orange and blue-maned unicorn. “Ember Burst and Shadow Amethyst. This is the first one in the series, there are 5 altogether. It’s a lot like Daring Do only with a little bit of a more advanced story-line and some romance between the 2 main characters.” Twilight explained. “OK then, let’s try this out,” Rainbow said, opening the cover as she beginning reading. As Rainbow read on, and the mare in the story, Ember Burst, began to fall for the stallion, Shadow amethyst, she began to notice some similarities between Ember’s emotions and her own. Lately she had been getting certain…feelings, around Twilight. Stuff like her cheeks warming up, a warm feeling in her chest whenever she was complimented and feeling heartbroken whenever she was sad, willing to do anything to cheer her up. And now that she thought about it, she always had thought that Twilight was stunningly beautiful…but she never thought anything of it. Rainbow’s eyes widened as she looked at the alicorn by her side, her eyes – her beautiful eyes – running across the page at twice, no, three times the speed that Rainbow’s could, her wings twitching a little as Twilight had yet to get used to her new appendages. Twilight looked up, her eyes meeting Rainbow’s for a few seconds before Rainbow blushed and hurriedly looked back down to her book. The two mares continued to read for a bit, but Rainbow was distracted the whole time by the alicorn at her side. She tried to tell herself that it was just a coincidence, but the more she read, the more similarities she found. She couldn't deny it anymore – Rainbow Dash had a crush on Twilight. Rainbow’s brain was like a war-zone. ‘But…I can’t have a crush on her! She’s Twilight, and, I’m me!’ ‘So? Ya know opposites attract?’ ‘But-‘ ‘You can’t help this Dash. Besides, imagine just think of how awesome it would be for Twilight to be you marefriend!’ ‘I guess it would be pretty cool…but…it wouldn't work out…’ “What wouldn't work out?” Rainbow’s head shot up and her eyes widened, blushing as she realized she had said that last part out loud. “N-nothing! Just never mind…” “Are you sure? You know you can tell me anything, right Rainbow?” Twilight said, seeming concerned. “Yeah, I’m fine. I should be getting home, it’s nearly Tank’s feeding time,” Rainbow said, packing her saddlebags, adding in the new book. “Thanks for the book Twi!” she said as she flew out, leaving a rainbow trail behind her. “It wouldn't work out…” > Chapter 2: What do I do now... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow walked through the door to her cloud mansion and tossed her saddlebag haphazardly. She had been in deep thought since she left the Library so much that she bumped into Sugarcube Corner earlier. She heard a whirring as her tortoise, Tank flew over to her, bumping into the wall a few times on the way. Little guy still hadn't gotten used to using that propeller of his. This is why cloud walls are awesome. "Hey little buddy," Rainbow trotted over to the food cupboard and got out some tomatoes and carrots for Tank and grabbed some Salt and Vinegar chips for herself. Cuz salt and vinegar are awesome. She settled down on her couch and took out the book Twilight gave her, thinking. Why did she feel this why about Twilight? For how long? It must've been for ages. But why Twilight? Sure she was absolutely stunning, always nice to people and willing to help them, undoubtedly awesome...but, she was so different... 'Who cares, love is love!' 'Ugh, you again? Why can't you just leave me alone?' 'Cuz I'm you.' 'That makes no sense.' 'What fun is there in making sense?' 'Eh, good point.' 'So, back to the topic on hoof...' 'Oh, right...yeah. That. What do I do...?’ 'Accept it. Just roll with it. It's not like you can change it.' 'Whatever. It doesn't matter, it's just a stupid schoolfilly crush...' 'Really? Because you're acting like it's much more than that.' 'Just leave me alone!' Rainbow decided to have a shower to clear her head. Usually when her head got clouded she took a shower and it washed her worries away, making everything clear. She had no idea how it worked, but whatever. If it works, it works, right? Rainbow started running the water and looked at herself in the mirror whilst she waited for the water to heat up. Her mane was ruffled and covered with water from the clouds she bumped into on the way home. She shook her head and walked under the water. The water dripped into her down her hair, soaking her fur, dirty running of her coat. ‘Maybe I should just tell her…I mean, it’s not like it’s a big deal, if I told her she could help me get over it…’ Do you want to get over it?’ ‘Of course! I mean, no, I mean…uh, maybe? Anyway, I told you to LEAVE ME ALONE!’ ‘Alright, alright, jeez, I’m leaving!’ Rainbow sighed. ‘Maybe I should tell her…no, I don’t want to mess up our friendship. Ugh, think Dash, what would Twilight do...of course! Twilight has books on everything, surely she'll have something on how to deal with my situation!Tomorrow, I’ll ask Twilight if she has any books on this situation.’ Rainbow stepped out the shower and dried herself off, smiling at the closure of her decision. She decided to take an afternoon nap as she lay down on her bed, resting her hooves behind her head. Tank flew over and landed next to Rainbow, who held him close. “Night Tank…” > Chapter 3: Something's up with Rainbow > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few hours after her pegasus friend flew off on her, Twilight paced around the library floor with an impatient expression, thinking. “Twilight? What are you doing?” Twilight looked up to see her baby dragon assistant Spike looking at her a quizzical expression on her face. “Thinking.” “About what? Did something happen between you and Rainbow?” “Uh…sorta. We were reading, and she kept staring at me when she thought I wasn't looking. She was murmuring to herself, all I heard was ‘it wouldn't work out’. I asked if she was OK and she flew off, not even giving me a chance to say good-“ The alicorn was interrupted by a knock on the door. “I’ll get it.” Spike deadpanned walking over to the door to see the mare he least expected. “R-Rainbow Dash? What are you doing here?” “I’m looking for a book, besides, I never said goodbye to Twilight properly,” she said, sheepishly rubbing the back of her neck. “Um, OK, come on in then?” Spike stepped back and opened the door the rest of the way. Twilight, who had been listening the whole time, pretended to go back to reading a book as Rainbow hovered in. “Hey Twi.” “Huh? Oh, hi Rainbow!” she said, pretending to be surprised. “What brings you here?” “Well, first off I wanna apologize for running off earlier and not properly saying bye," she replied, rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. "That was kinda mean of me…” “Oh, well, that’s alright.” “Also, I was wondering if you have any books on uh…romance…” That caught Twilight’s attention. “Really? Why?” “Well…um…I need help dealing with…um… a crush…” Rainbow admitted, sinking into the floor from embarrassment. For some reason Twilight’s heart dropped at that statement. She had no idea why though…she just shook it off. “Well well well, big tough Dashie has a crush!” Twilight teased, lightly elbowing the pegasus. “Well, uh, shut up!” Rainbow yelled, standing tall again, a huge blush covering her face. “Heh heh, OK, OK, I’ll stop,” Twilight smirked as she walked over to a bookshelf, labelled ‘Romance Non-Fiction’. “So, who’s the lucky stallion?” Twilight asked. “Um…actually…it’s um, a…a mare,” Rainbow squeaked, telling herself off for being so ‘Fluttershy-y’ while she was at it. “Oh, then you’ll be wanted this!” Twilight said, handing over a book. “So…you don’t have a problem that I like, uh, mares?” Rainbow asked, still blushing. “Of course not! I’m bisexual myself!” Twilight smiled, before face-hoofing at Rainbow’s vacant expression. “Homosexual is when you like other mares, Heterosexual is when you like stallions, and bisexual is when you like both mares and stallions.” Twilight explained. “Yeah…I’m gonna just stick to gay, straight and both!” Rainbow smiled sheepishly, taking the book form Twilight’s magic and putting it in her saddlebag. “Thanks Twilight, I gotta go go home now! You awesome!” she thanked, flying off. > Chapter 4 - Admittance > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow flipped through her notes. She figured she wouldn't remember anything if she just read it so she wrote down notes to help here remember. It was surprisingly hard...or not, this is Rainbow Dash. She read over them to see if she missed anything. - The first step to dealing with a crush is admitting it. - yeah yeah, been there, done that - when admitting your feelings, don't just bring it up randomly. bring it up during a visit or over lunch - I do have those weekly reading sessions with Twilight, that would be good time to bring it up - try to set the moment with a gift, maybe some flowers or chocolates -Or a book. That would probably be the best. But then some flowers as well can't hurt... - when admitting your feelings, keep calm and level headed - I dunno,level-headed isn't really my thing...I guess I can try - If you are rejected, try not to make a big deal of it. A broken heart can be hard, but you will get over it, and you don't want to make your crush feel bad - yeah, of course, I can handle rejection...i think 'I think I've got everything...' A few days later, Rainbow was approaching the library holding a new book form AK Yearling under her wing as well as a bouquet of flowers. She bit her lip and take a deep breathe as she knocked on the door. "Hi Rainbow! How's the romance research goin'?" Twilight asked. "Uh, yeah, heh, uh, pretty good. I think I'm ready to admit to my crush..." she said. "That's great!" Twilight went from happy to surprised as she looked towards Rainbow's wing. "What's that?" "Huh? Oh, uh, I um, brought you something," Rainbow rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "Can we go inside?" "Oh, right, of course!" she said, backing away and letting Rainbow walk in. "So what is it?" she asked, sitting down on the couch next to Rainbow. Rainbow lifted her wing and brought out the flowers, handing them to Twilight, blushing slightly. "Ohmygosh, Rainbow, thank you so much!" Twilight said, all of a sudden giving Rainbow a giant hug. "Heh, it's nothing, really," Rainbow said, trying to hide the blush on her face. "I'm just glad you don't already have it!" "I haven't been able to leave the library for a few days. I've been doing some research." "Well, I also got you these," Rainbow said, holding out the flowers. "W-wow Rainbow...I'm touched..." Twilight said, shocked, as she took the flowers. "And they're lavender as well, y favourite. How did you know?" "You're my friend. It's my j0ob to know this stuff!" Rainbow said. "Well, thank you Rainbow. Now let's get reading this book!" "Hey, T-Twi?" Rainbow asked nervously. "Hm? What's up?" she asked, looking up from the book. "I h-have to tell you s-something..." "What is it? s something wrong?" Twilight asked, getting a little worried. "Uh...not necessarily...you see, um...for a wile I've been having...feelings. I didn't know why, I just shrugged it off but...well...it turned out to be...more. It's nly gotten more extreme as time went on...Twilight I...I think I've...um...I've fallen in love with you!" Rainbow exclaimed, giving Twilight a kiss. It was only about a second long, but it felt like an eternity to Rainbow. sparks flew as their lips connected. Twilight was shocked. 'W-what? She...she has a crush on...me?' she thought. Rainbow jumped off, realizing what she had done. "Twilight, I, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it, I didn't realize, I, I..." she shut her eyes and ran out, trying to prevent tears from filling her eyes. "R-Rainbow wait!" Twilight reached after her, but the pegasus was long gone. She put a hoof to her lips, still feeling the surprisingly soft touch of Rainbow's, blushing. "Rainbow Dash..." > Chpater 5 - The End > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow was lying on her bed, banging her head against the pillow. "Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why the hay did I do that? I should've known it would go wrong!" 'Yep, you should've' "Leave me alone!" Rainbow yelled, throwing a pillow across the room and hitting Tank, who had been standing there watching his best friend freak out with wide eyes. Rainbow rolled onto her back and stared at the roof wistfully. "I'm such an idiot..." she said, letting the tears flow. She was surprised by a knock on the door. "C-Coming," she said, standing up and wiping her eyes. She opened the door to see the pony she wanted to see both the most and the least right now. "O-Oh, hi Twilight. Uh, what's up?" Twilight looked really worried. "Rainbow, have you been crying?" "N-no...maybe." "Rainbow..." "I's fine Twilight. If you don't feel the same way, it's fine. I didn't expect it to go well anyway," Rainbow said turning away only to feel a magical aura grab her tail. "Rainbow...I'm not sure how I feel about all this, but, I think...I think I might feel the same way. Either way, I'm willing to give it a try!" Twilight said, a soft smile on her face. Rainbow smiled, eyes lighting up again as she tackled Twilight to the ground i a hug. "Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!" she said, wrapping her hooves around Twilight's neck. "It's fine Rainbow, really. Um, as much as I like hugs, can you maybe get off me?" Twilight asked, blushing. "Oh, right sorry," she said sheepishly, getting up and Twilight stood up. "So, uh - mph!" Rainbow's train of thought was interrupted when her head was pulled towards Twilight's and a soft pair of lips met her own. Rainbow's eyes widened but slowly closed as she sunk into the kiss. Her tongue met Twilight's lips, asking for permission. Twilight granted it and their tongues wrestled passionately. They pulled away, a thin line of drool connecting their lips as they panted. Rainbow smiled, blushing, and Twilight smiled back. 'Good for you' 'Oh, shut up.' "Love ya Twi," "I love you, too, Rainbow.
