> Pinkie's Suprise > by Short Stories 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Family Reunion!! > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinkie Pie bounded throughout her dainty little home as she finished putting up the streamers for her latest party. Well, not exactly a party, more like a family reunion. For this party was for her family and her family only. It kind of hurt her to not let her friends see her family right away, but, she figured they could see her family another day. She was planning pin-the-tail-on-the-pony, a sack race, a six-hoofed race, and other extremely fun party games she knew her family would love! She even had a whole snack buffet for them. She was so excited, she could barely contain herself when she heard a knock on the door. Not just a row of knocks, a single knock. She leaped towards the door with glee and opened it, to find her dad, mom, Maud, Marble, and Limestone all standing at the door, a bored expression written all over their faces. Maud lead the way in, the rest of them following. "Hi, mom and dad! Omigosh, I said hi to you before, but Spike smushed you under his feet 'cause he was walking on this cool map, and I almost thought you were dead for a while!" Pinkie paused for a second, raised a hoof to her chin, thinking. Putting it back down, she asked "Is the rock farm still there?" "Yes, Pinkie. It's still there." Cloudy Quartz spoke with a monotone. Looking around, she added "This place is to...bright. Why don't you place a picture of a rock or something, to help not make it so...fun?" Cloudy shuddered as she said 'fun', as if she were allergic to it. Pinkie's dad, Ingenious Rock, circled around Pinkie, then stopped at her side, so he was facing Cloudy. "Now, now, Cloudy." Ingenious spoke, with the same monotone as the rest of the family. "Why don't we stay a while, and see how it is?" Marble, Limestone, and Maud all nodded in agreement. "Oh! Maud! I have a place for pets over in that corner." Pinkie said, pointing a hoof towards a small, fenced-in corner, where Gummy sat, unblinking, staring at the new guests. "Thanks." Maud said, walking over to the corner. She tossed Boulder in, patted his head, then walked back to look at the snack buffet. Marble was already there, eating some rock candy that Pinkie made just that morning. "So..." Pinkie said, trying to clear the awkward silence that hung in the air. "I have plenty of fun stuff to do! I made a five-layer cake--one layer for each of us--and, I have some balloons for each of you, plus some fun party games, like pin the tail on the pony, and--" "That sounds to fun." Limestone interrupted her. The dull-purple pony took one step towards the door, then paused. "I'm going home. You guys can stay here in this fun house. I don't care." She then left, breaking exactly one fifth of Pinkie's heart, and making her deflate just a tiny bit. It doesn't matter. She told herself. At least the rest of my family will-- Just like that, the rest of the pie family started wandering out of Pinkie's house. First Marble, then Cloudy, then Ingenues, and lastly, Maud, who went to get her pet Boulder. Pinkie's heart was officially broken, and she was officially deflated. There my family, and they left because my house is too fun! Pinkie thought. She wiped angry tears from her eyes. "Pull yourself together, Pinkie." She told herself. "There is one mare who would probably love this family reunion more than my mom, dad, and sisters combined!" With motivation flowing through her, Pinkie went over to the phone and started dialing. > A Phone Call > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The phone picked up on the other line. "Hello?" The voice said. "Hey, cousin. So, I'm having a family reunion and..." "Pinkie?! Is that you?!" The voice squealed. "Oh my goodness, I haven't seen you in AGES! So, how's the rock farm?" "Oh, I moved to Ponyville eight years ago." Pinkie said with a guilty tone. She thought she'd told everyone of her relatives that she moved, she'd even thrown a moving-away party. She guessed she hadn't told this relative at all. "Really?" The voice said. There was some static, so, she must be walking around. "Oh, Pinkie! It's been to long! I'm coming down right away!" She said. "Okay!" Pinkie was ecstatic that her cousin, that she hadn't seen since she was just a filly, was coming to visit! "I'll be there by tomorrow." Her cousin promised. "Okay." Pinkie said again. "Meet me by Sugar Cube Corn--" A faint beep silenced her sentence. Her cousin had hung up on her. She was probably anxious to see her. Pinkie gasped as a thought hit her. My friends would LOVE my cousin! First thing tomorrow morning, she would bring her besties down to Sugar Cube Corner, and... wait. "Ugh." She said. "It's gonna be a loooong way until tomorrow morning..." > Pinkie's Surprise > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinkie was up before Celestia was, making her way down to Sugar Cube Corner. She had told her friends to meet her there as soon as the sun was up. Barley containing her excitement, she bounced right through the door. Sitting in the middle of the shop was a pony who looked like her, except with yellow hair, a white coat, and purple eyes. Plus, she was a pegasus, so, she didn't look like Pinkie at all. "Pinkie!" The white pegasus jumped and ran over to Pinkie Pie, giving her a hug. "Pinkie, I haven't seen you in FOREVER!!" She exclaimed. Pinkie giggled. "I thought you hadn't seen me in ages, Surprise." She pointed out. Surprise just waved a hoof, as if dismissing the comment. The sun was starting to rise, making Surprise's coat seem to glow. "Same thing." Surprise said. "Now, are you going to show me around?" "Ohmigosh, I totally forgot!" Pinkie gasped. Taking her cousin's hoof, she ran at top speed out of the shop, right into a confused Fluttershy. "Oh, I-I'm sorry." Fluttershy whispered. "I wasn't looking where I was going... and..." "It's okay, Fluttershy, I was the one speeding out of here like a maniac. I was just excited to show my cousin around." Pinkie explained, proudly pointing a hoof at the white pegasus. Surprise smiled and waved at Fluttershy. In response, Fluttershy gasped and hid behind a bush, just outside the shop. "Did I do something wrong?" Surprise asked. She didn't mean to offend anypony, let alone, scare them off! "No." Pinkie smiled. "She's fine. She's just really shy. and, I mean REALLY shy! But, she's not as much once you get to know her." Ohh!" Surprise said. She stuck her head into the bush, where the frightened pegasus was hiding. "Hi! I'm Surprise, Pinkie's cousin. I'm a pegasus, just like you!" She smiled and spread her wings out from behind her, too prove it. "Maybe we can be friends as well?" Fluttershy nodded and slowly started to get up, when they all heard another voice. "Fluttershy, why are you in a bush?" Twilight asked. The rest of the gang was there, as well. Surprise turned from Fluttershy to look at them. A purple alicorn, a blue pegasus, a orange earth pony-- "Who's the new mare?" the blue pegasus asked. Pinkie Pie was bouncing up and down, not even trying to contain her excitement. "Everypony, this is my cousin, Surprise!" she called. "Surprise, these are my friends. Twilight, Applejack, Rarity, and-Rainbow Dash." She pointed at each pony as she listed off their names. Fluttershy came to join the crowd. "You've already met Fluttershy." Pinkie added. The main six went to talk to Surprise, all excited about meeting a new pegasus. Surprise was equally as excited to meet all of them. She just got an idea. She gasped, then flew and hovered just a couple inches off the ground. Confused, they all stopped talking. "What?" Rainbow asked eventually. "I just had an idea!" Surprise said. "I'm spending two weeks here, why not spend two days with each of you?" She turned to her cousin. "And four days with you, of course." "Of course." Pinkie nodded. "That's a brilliant plan!" Surprise turned back to the small crowd. "So..." she asked. "Who wants to have a sleepover with me?!" > With the Apples > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "And that's why Ah'm the Element of Honesty." Applejack finished. They were just getting to the orange earth pony's home. Surprise honestly thought Applejack was too talkative, but, didn't say anything. She was used to it, with Pinkie blabbing in her ear every time she came to visit. the rock farm She didn't understand why Pinkie never invited her to a party until now...maybe she just hasn't had one for a while? "Applejack?" She asked. "Yeah?" "Uh, sorry, I'm just a little nervous..." "Aw, don't fret, sugar-cube. What's wrong?" "Well, it's about Pink-EEK!" She screamed when a sand-colored blob smacked into her. Dazed, Surprise looked at the thing. The thing was a little earth filly, with apple red hair. "Oh, sorry, miss." The filly said. "Ah wasn't expecting you to be there." Surprise looked at Applejack. "Is this how everypony greats each other here? Because, I'm not sure I like it very much." Applejack chuckled. "No, ah think Applebloom is just excited to get to her clubhouse." "Ooo, what club do you have?" Surprise asked. "Ah'm part of the Cutie Mark Crusaders!" Applebloom yelled. "Ah'm gonna be late already! Nice meeting you, miss!" She said as she zoomed off. "What was that thing y'all were askin' about Pinkie?" Applejack asked as they walked into the house. Surprise considered trying to ask again, but, she'd rather not put any dauber on the fun Applejack and her were going to have. She'd rather ask tomorrow, when she was about to leave. "Never mind." She said respectfully. "I'll tell you tomorrow." Applejack was up bright and early, despite only getting about two winks of sleep last night. The downside was, so was Surprise, which Applejack had pushed her out of bed, claiming that breakfast was served as soon as every Apple was up. As soon as they got downstairs, it was clear to Surprise that all of the Apple's were early birds. The Apple family peppered Surprise with questions, which she quickly asked with 'yes', 'no', or short-answered questions. She was too distracted by the thought that Pinkie had probably thrown at least one party here that she hadn't been invited too. Why is this bothering me so much? She asked herself. I'm pretty sure my cousin would remember to invite me to her parties. I shouldn't be doubting myself. "Hey, Applejack?" She asked. "Yeah?" "Okay, so, you know Pinkie, right?" Applejack nodded. "And...you've been to her party, right?" "Ah'm sorry, party? Did you say party?!" "Yeah, party. Has she thrown more than one?" The entire Apple family laughed at that. "Sugar-cube, Ah think she's thrown at least a hundred in the past month." "A hundred?! Past month?!" Surprise repeated. "There's no such thing as one party for Pinkie each year." "No such thing?" Surprise repeated again. "Are you OK, Surprise?" Apple Bloom asked. Surprise shook her head. She wasn't 'OK', she wasn't 'alright'. She was shocked and a teeny bit angry to hear that her favorite cousin would throw over a hundred parties each month, and not invite her to a single one! Is she really that distant from her?! She could be lying. She told herself. But Applejack said she was the element of honesty! She argued back. She could've been lying about that, too. "Uh, yeah." She said, mustering a fake smile. "It's just, I think I should go see Fluttershy now." Apple jack sighed. "If y'all must. It's been a great time gettin' to know ya-" "Yeah, you too, bye." The white pegasus flew with speeds that could rival Rainbow Dash out of Sweet Apple Acres. There was a thing called being brutally honest. She figured some kindness would help mend the crack in her heart. > Family Complications > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hi, Fluttershy." Surprise said when she saw the quiet pegasus out in her front yard. Fluttershy waved and went back to feeding her animals. Surprise went to help her. "So, this is your house?" Surprise asked. "Yes." Surprise looked around, noticing the Everfree Forest was close to her cottage. "Do you like the Everfree?" "N-No." The shy pegasus whispered. "I-I mean, I like it, but, it's not my...my favorite spot here." "Oh, yeah, I totally get it." Surprise said calmly. "So, what plans do you have for today?" "Uh, well, Pinkie is having this party at town square, and, uhm..." She paused, suddenly alert. "Darn, I said to much already..." "Oh, no, it's fine." Surprise said. "Continue." She wanted to see why Pinkie was holding yet another party and didn't invite her to it. "Uhm, I'm not sure Pinkie would like that..." Fluttershy scrunched up her nose in hesitation. "But...I guess..." Pinkie opened up the door, just about to go outside to get Fluttershy. Instead, she saw Fluttershy there...along with her cousin. "Oh, hey, Surprise!" She said. Surprise had an upset look on her face, the look that Pinkie hated more than anything. She didn't get why her cousin looked so upset, she was here for two weeks! Shouldn't she be happy? "Hey." Surprise said in a scornful tone, turning her head away. "Where's the party?" Pinkie cringed at the tone she still held. They both had the same cutie marks, except Surprise's was purple. And with some pink hair and body paint, they could pass off as twins. Surprise loved surprise party's. That's how she got her cutie mark. So, why was she acting like a jerk? "Oh, well, it's not ready yet." She explained. "Fluttershy was supposed to get me some supplies..." "Sorry, Surprise came over, and I thought, maybe, you could keep her company." "Oh!" Pinkie said. "Well, I'm kind of busy." The look on her cousin's face threatened to kill her. "But, why don't you go ask Rainbow Dash? Shes probably not busy." "Yeah, I bet she would be LOYAL enough to invite other family members to a party. Especially if those family members LOVED to PARTY! Pinkie stared at her, beyond embarrassment, beyond anger, beyond showing appreciation to her cousin. "MAYBE SOME PONIES FORGET!" She screamed back. "Maybe we can all just forgive and forget..." "Maybe some ponies need to remember, instead of getting drunk on fun!" "You've never invited me to a party!" "Have so! Check your mailbox!!" "OK, everypony, lets just calm down now..." Pinkie went and checked her mailbox. About 20 or so letters came spilling out, all with the same return address. Surprise's return address. Surprise smirked, happy to prove Pinkie wrong. "Surprise..." Pinkie began. Surprise thought it was an apology. She thought wrong. Pinkie's hair deflated and she turned around, a crazy look in her eye. Fluttershy had seen that look in Pinkie's eye only once before. "Let's go to Rainbow's." She said, pulling Surprise off the ground towards Rainbow's home. Pinkie stared after her. Surprise dosent deserve to live. The voices told her. She tried to ignore it going back into her house and putting her head under her pillow. Surprise doesn't deserve to live. Surprise doesn't deserve to live. Surprise doesn't deserve to live. "Surprise doesn't deserve to live." > Apology's > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The plan was to throw Surprise a surprise party. Not anymore. The plan was to get Surprise to know everypony in town. Not anymore. Now, the plan was to get revenge. Pinkie's style of revenge. "And then she just turned around with this crazy look in her eye. Fluttershy rushed me over, and, here I am." Surprise finished. Rainbow Dash was sitting on her bed, Surprise on the floor. "Yeah, that's a good thing." Rainbow said. "The last time she had that look in her eye, she sat on my face." Rainbow scrunched up her nose. "I'd keep an eye out, if I were you." "Why?" "Pinkie is the best pranker I've ever met." "Oh, Really?" Suddenly, Rainbow fell through her bed, landing on the ground. Only her eyes showed, clear alarm written across them. "Second best." She corrected. Surprise setback with glee. "But only by a tiny bit more. I'd still watch my back, Surprise." "I did not get my name and cutie mark for a reason. I'm the prank queen of Manehatten." "You've proved that." Rainbow earnestly said. "I'm just saying that Pinkie is the prank ninja of Ponyville. She pranked my un-prankable best Griffin friend, Gilda. She has skills." Surprise suddenly looked sad. "I wish she would at least write to me." "She didn't even write to you?!" Surprise shook her head. "That's it, I'm helping you. We need supplies, and I have got enough prank storage to last me a decade." Pinkie decided that it would be a party full of pranks, just like Gilda's. Before she could get it all set, though, she had to go to Twilight's. "This is where my Pinkie sense comes in handy." She said to herself, walking out of her house. She jumped to hide under a rock, then behind a tree. Her tail began to twitch, but, she didn't notice. Seconds later, it started raining frogs on her. Oh, normal Ponyville weather...Wait...raining frogs? She looked up, just in time to see a frog aiming for her face. Startled, and seeing green, Pinkie stood there for a second. When she shook the frog off, she noticed a white pegasus standing in front of her. It only took her a second to realize it was Surprise. Then, she started laughing. Surprise looked seriously confused, but, she started laughing a bit later right along with Pinkie. "That was a good prank." Pinkie said after she settled down. "And, I'm sorry for not inviting you to any parties. I must've forgot." "It was my fault for over reacting." Surprise said. "But, let's not focus on the past. Let's get started on this party today." Pinkie said. "Whoops! I didn't mean to say that!" "What's wrong?" Surprise asked. "Well, it was kind of supposed to be a surprise party..." > Miscomunication > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Five minutes later, they arrived at Pinkie's house. "OK, so, I told them to wait for you." Pinkie explained. "They don't know that you know this is a surprise party, so, just pretend to be surprised and roll with the punches." "Wait, there's going to be punches?" Surprise asked, taking a step back. What type of party punches the mare (or stallion) of honer? "No, silly. That's just an expression." "Oh! OK." Surprise said. She'd never heard of that expression before, but, she figured she could try to trust Pinkie, since the mare was throwing her a party in her honer. They stepped into the darkened house, Surprise and Pinkie both barley holding there excitement in. "Here we are, Surprise! Home sweet home!" Pinkie called, just loud enough for everypony to hear in the house, but not loud enough to be hurt anypony's ears. Nopony popped out, and no lights came on. Pinkie tried again. "Surprise, were here! At my completely empty house!!! No surprises whatsoever! Except you!" Again, nopony popped out. Pinkie sighed, scooted Surprise outside, closed the door, and turned on the lights. "Why isn't everypony popping out?" Pinkie asked the air. Nopony responded. This was getting old. "Ok, she's outside, everypony! Come out! Now, please!" Nopony popped out. Pinkie checked the spaces she was positive she saw the ponies hide in before she left. Thats when she realized that nopony was in her house, except her. "Oh, this isn't good." She mumbled. Surprise knocked on the door. "Is everypony too shy, or something?" She asked. Pinkie rushed over and opened the door just a crack, so her head could pop through. "No." She said nervously. "W-we just forgot the...the...THE CAKE! Yes, the cake. Ok? Ok. Just stay here and, um, wait a second." She then slammed the door, and looked around nervously. If Surprise tried to make Pinkie have frog weather, who knows what she'd do if nopony was here for the party?! She glanced around, then darted through the back door. She'd just have to find the ponies that left her house. Surprise saw Pinkie dart through the back door through the window, and she instantly knew something was up. Well, she told herself, Pinkie could be getting cake, like she said. I might as well look around. She opened up the door a peeked inside. The first thing she noticed was a giant yellow and white cake, with purple balloons attached to it. Pinkie needed another cake? Why? This cake seemed perfect enough. She thought. Oh. Surprise went to sit back at the door, not willing to think or express what she felt, not willing to cry. > Just Visiting > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was nighttime when Pinkie finally came back. Surprise was sleeping by the front door, waiting patiently. Pinkie was scared to wake her, and too explain that everypony had run away to go to Cheese Sandwich's party. She wrinkled her nose. She didn't like that Cheese Sandwich. Not one bit. She saw Surprise shiver, so, she took her inside and managed to get the pegasus on the couch. Then, she went over and began to close the door, not noticing five familiar faces. "Pinkamena?" Her dad said. Pinkie gasped, surprised, and happy and excited, all in one mix. "Dad? Mom?!" She lowered her voice and joined her family outside in the cold night, gently closing the door behind her. "What are you doing here?" she asked. "Oh, not that it's a bad thing, I'm just curious, because, before, you kind of ditched me, so, I invited Surprise." She quickly added, pointing towards her house. "She's sleeping on the couch now." "We came because we would like to apologize." Maud said. "We didn't give your party a chance, so, we figured, we should apologize for it." "Plus, we thought you could throw us a party at the rock farm." Limestone added. "To make up for what we-" Marble Pie elbowed her. "I mean, because we just found a new kind of rock." "Oh, I don't know." Pinkie said. "Surprise is right in the house, I-I just don't want to leave her here...Besides, why can't we just have it here?" "You only have one guest bedroom, correct?" Cloudy asked. "Yeah. Oh... I see the problem..." Pinkie responded. "Just write her a note." Her dad suggested. "Say you'll be back tomorrow around noon. She'll understand." "Well..." Pinkie hesitated. One one hoof, she wanted to go with her family and have a great time with them. She looked back towards her house. On the other... "I guess..." She replied at last. "Just give me a minute." Dashing inside, she grabbed her favorite pink pen and some loose paper and started to write a note. At one point, Surprise stirred, so she slowed down her writing, making sure it wasn't loud. After that, she grabbed some balloons and headed out the door to join her family. As Pinkie raced out of the door, the winds she caused made the door slam shut. She winced, hoping that didn't wake up her cousin, then she turned to her family. "Okie dokie lokie, I'm all set!" She cheered, prancing ahead of them while they simply walked. Before she got to far out of earshot, she heard her mom say "Surprise isn't even part of this family." Surprise woke up to the sound of the door slam and Pinkie's enthusiastic voice shout "Okie dokie lokie! I'm all set!" Fully awake, she flew over to the window to see what was happening. She saw Pinkie, with a handful of purple and white balloons...her purple and white balloons! Leaving the house! There was five other figures behind her, all dull in color, and simply walking behind her. She remembered those ponies perfectly. They were Pinkie's family. The ones that always groaned whenever Surprise was around the rock farm, silently complaining that the white Pegasus would crush the wrong rock or something. She didn't like that family at all. Surprise went over and turned on the lights, making everything glow in a warm hue. She then noticed the light bounce off of something shiny. Curious, she went over to see what it was. It was a recipete for a large white and yellow cake. Surprised looked around, and was glad to see it was still there. She looked back at the recipete for some sort of clue. She had a feeling it wasn't just there because it was. She turned it over, and discovered a note. Hi, Surprise! I'm glad you found this note! Well, it was probably easy for you to find it, but, anyways, my family and I are going down to the rock farm to have a party! I never knew they liked parties! They never told me!! Guess what were having the party for? Well, it turns out that they've discovered some new type of rock! There calling it a Pinkie rock. Isn't that sweet? There naming a rock after me! Maybe I'll get them to name a rock after you, so your not left out. So, I'll be gone for a while. Not a long while, just a while. I'll be back around noon tomorrow, and that's a Pinkie Promise! See you then! Lots of love for an awesome Cuz! Love, Pinkie "Oh." Surprise said, a bit shocked. She knew perfectly well that her family hadn't discovered a new type of rock at all. Even if they did, that's no big news! She sighed. Pinkie will be here tomorrow. She Pinkie Promised. She's never break one of her own promises.
