> The broken song > by 27 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The roaring crowd became silent as the red stage curtains began to open. In the middle of the stage stood a grey mare with a cello in one hoof and a bow in the other. The crowd watched in awe as the grey mare slowly brought the bow to the cello. With the first stroke the music started. As soon as the song ended the crowd cried out “ENCORE ENCORE” Not wanting to upset her fans the grey mare played one more song At the end of the performance the mare simply walked off the stage and was replaced by a blue stallion “That was Octavia who just played celestial’s morning and Luna’s night. Now why don’t we all give her a round of applause?” The stallion spoke The crowd stomped their hooves. “Make sure to come back tomorrow for another performance.” The stallion spoke again. A few hours later the auditorium was mostly empty except for a few ponies cleaning up Octavia stood outside waiting for a ride. “That was an awesome performance you did today Tavi.” A voice called out to Octavia startling her. She turned around to see who it was. “Oh it’s you Lyra. Thank you but weren’t you supposed to perform to today?” She spoke “Heh yeah I was going to but I broke my hoof.” Lyra replied holding up her casted hoof. “Don’t you use magic to play your instrument?” Tavi asked. “Well you see the thing…” “She also forgot to practice.” A voice cut her off. “Bonbon” Lyra said in an annoyed voice. “What? It’s true if you would just stop having fantasies about those creatures that don’t exist and started practicing you would be almost as good a Tavi.” Bonbon replied. “Umm so Tavi Vinyl did not come today?” Lyra asked mostly wanting to change the subject. “No classical music is not really her cup of tea or should I say cup of coffee. Plus she had her own performance at the other end of town.” Tavi replied A carriage pulls up. “Well this is my ride.” Tavi said while hoisting herself up to get in. “See ya tomorrow.” The two ponies replied while the carriage pulled away. > CH1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- About an hour later the carriage pulled up to Octavia’s house. She paid and thanked the driver then walked to her front door. Tavi knocked on the door but no answer. She sighed and took a spare key out of her bag. She opened the door only to be met with pizza boxes laying on the ground and a sleeping unicorn on the couch. “Vinyl you pig.” Tavi mumbled to herself. She then made her way upstairs to her room planning to scold Vinyl tomorrow but right now she was too tired. “Oh why yes I would love to play at your birthday princess.” Tavi said “Thank you.” Tia replied. CRASH! Octavia awoke. “Vinyl I was having a nice dream.” She sighed and made her way downstairs but was stopped. “TAVI I’m so sorry I can explain, it was a mistake.” A frantic vinyl spoke while facing Tavi blocking her way. “What did you do this time?” Tavi replied in an annoyed voice while pushing her way past Vinyl. Laying on top of some scattered pizza boxes was a broken cello. “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?” Tavi yelled at vinyl. “I’m sorry.” Vinyl replied. “SORRY DOESN’T CUT IT. I HAVE A PERFORMANCE IN TWO HOURS. NOW WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?” “But.” “No Vinyl just go I don’t want to see right now.” Vinyl made her way to the door mumbling “it was a stupid instrument that played stupid music.” “What was that?” “YOU HEARD ME.” Vinyl yelled back while running out the door. Octavia closed the front door then made her way back upstairs. She went to her closet and pulled out a spare cello. She had one hidden that Vinyl did not know about. Just in case something like this happened. Octavia felt bad for yelling at Vinyl but she did need to learn to be more careful. Tavi would apologize when she got back but right now she had a performance to get to. With cello in hoof she made her way downstairs and out the door. The trip to the concert hall was slightly longer than she hoped it would be. Due to the fact that it was raining but she made it in time. In fact she was about ten minutes early. Lyra was still performing on stage. Tavi decided to sit amongst the audience and watch till it was her time to come up. “Hey Tavi.” Bonbon said tapping her right shoulder. “Oh hey Bonbon. Are you here for Lyra?” Tavi replied. “Of course.” “Her music seems better”. “Yeah I made her practice all night last night”. “Shouldn’t she be dead tired then?” “Coffee. Lots of coffee.” “Oh”. “Yep. So will Vinyl be showing up today?” Bonbon asked. “Probably not we had an argument this morning and then she ran off.” Tavi replied. “Oh sorry to hear that.” “That was Lyra everypony. Next up is Octavia but first we shall take a short break to set up.” The blue stallion spoke from the stage. “Well that’s me. Will I see you and Lyra after the show?” Tavi asked. “Sure.” Bonbon replied. Tavi made her way out of the audience and onto the stage. It took her about three minutes to set up her cello. The performance was pretty long. Lasting a little bit over an hour. After the show Octavia waited outside for Bonbon and Lyra. “Hey Tavi nice performance.” Lyra spoke while walking up to her. “Thanks. You too.” Tavi replied “So shall we get something to eat?” Bonbon asked. “Oh yes Please I am STARVING.” Lyra replied. “Ok calm down Lyra. So shall we walk or ride?” “Let’s walk the rain has stopped and its nice out.” Tavi replied The three friends made their way to the nearest restaurant they could find. After about a few minutes of silence Lyra spoke. “So where’s Vinyl?” > CH2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tavi looked at her watch before replying to Lyra's question. "Around this time she is either performing or getting drunk at a bar." "Day and night are less opposite than you two." Bonbon chuckled. Lyra spoke up "Well like they say opposites attract." "May I take your order?" A grey pony stood there with a notepad in one hoof and a pen in the other. "I will just have a salad and sparkling water please and thank you," Tavi said handing in her menu. "Hayburger." Both Lyra and Bonbon said handing in their menus. The waiter took the menus after writing the orders down "I shall return with your food." He walked off. Tavi chuckled "it seems you two are not so opposite." "Oh, we disagree a lot on things like music taste, shows, fashion, and Don't get me started on her crazy fascination with hu...." Lyra quickly cut her off. "I think she gets it." Tavi just smiled to the response from Lyra. "So may I ask what your's and Vinyl argument was about?" Bonbon asked. "Oh, their fighting?" Lyra replied. "Yes we had a little argument when she broke my cello, but it's fine I had an extra one. She will probably forget the whole thing when she wakes up tomorrow" Tavi said. The waiter came back with the food. "Here is your salad, sparkling water and hay burgers. Please enjoy." "Thank you." All three replied. The three mares ate their food Two of them with proper manners the third...not so much. "Lyra be more careful you have ketchup all over your mouth." bonbon said. "it is not ketchup my dear, it is blood. For I am Lyra the vampony." Lyra replied doing the vampire pose. This did not amuse Bonbon. "Haha, you and Vinyl would be great friends. Hey, Bonbon want to live with me and Vinyl and Lyra can live together?" Tavi asked. "that is a really tempting offer but I have to decline. those two living together would probably mean the end of equestria." Bonbon replied. Lyra stood up "HEY....yeah your right." She sat back down ending her protest. The waiter came back. "we are closing." "Oh ok thank you. Well, let's go get a carriage, girls." Tavi said leaving a tip on the table. The three mares walked out the restraunt doors only to find out the rain had returned, but luckily for them a carriage had just pulled up. All three of them got on. "Nice weather we have been having" Lyra chuckled. "The weather ponies have rainstorms planned for the next week" Bonbon replied. "luckily for me I don't have another performance till next month" Tavi sighed in relief. The carriage came to a stop. "well this is us. see you later and I hope you two make up." Bonbon said stepping out. Lyra followed closely behind. "Me too. Have a safe night" Tavi replied closing the door. The carriage Started moving again. Tavi stared out the small window watching the rain hit the hard ground. for a reason that she could not figure out, her mind kept going to Vinyl Her thoughts were cut short as the carriage came to a sudden halt. "Why have we stopped?" She asked. "sorry miss There's been an accident" The coachpony replied. "Oh, are they ok?" "I do not know." Tavi continued to look out the small window. She watched a stream of water with a red tint flow down the street. She shifted her gaze to a new spot and saw it. The thing that made her heart stop. Laying there broken in half in the middle of the street was a cello...her cello.
