> Lunar Rainbow > by LunarEclipse > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lunar Rainbow This life just goes on. This world has seen and suffered many loses, but somehow manages to keep on going strong. Even in these dark and gloomy times, this life just keeps going. I live an average life: I work, own a decent home, and I have my own secrets. Every day I walk to work, I dont own a car, but luckly I can walk past the most beautiful forest that still stands in these times. If I remember correctly, that forest has been standing straight up tall ever sense my childhood life with my parents. Sadly, they recently passed away leaving me to fend for myself in these times, but I know that they are watching me every moment I live, helping me through those difficult choices in life that I choose. I work late and walk back on the same path I went previously in the day. Also, I'm a open brony, I don't care what people think of me, because I know that my friends, true friends will accept me for who I am. My lively neighborhood has been sold to an industry which have planned to get it torn down and build a machinery. I've always loved physics, but with the help of my rubbish job at school, it is very difficult to follow that passion. Although I don't know a lot, I still know enough to conduct my own experiments, test theories, and my own ideas. While on my way home from a long day at work, I ponder on the idea of trying to create a portal that will teleport me to Equestria or at least get a glimspe of its beautiful colors, being able to see the world for what it is. I decided that when I get home I would prepare myself for the following day in which I will completely put all of my attention into this experiment. Allowing me to hopefully see the colors of the day once more. Still on my way, now passing the magnificent forest, I notice something. I look and see a small dimly lit area deep in the forest. With my curiousity taking over my body, like an excited dog going on its first walk, I decide that I should go check it out. I creep up towards it trying to make no notice of me. As I get closer, I here the crackling of what seemed like a fire that echoed from the direction of the light. As I got closer, I heard strange sounds. I stop. I listen closely from behind the trunk of a tree which I am hiding behind. Slowly, I turn to look past the corner of the tree trunk to get a look at the creature which has befuddled my mind, making me not notice the sounds from behind me inching closer as I sit there not noticed by the sound. Suddenly, something grabs me. "Aaahhh!" I scream trying to fight free from the mysterious foe's mighty grip squeezing me like a python suffocating its prey. I finally get free and was about to turn around, when suddenly my vision goes black. I awake from the sound of the birds chirping from the trees that tower above the piece of grass on which I lay. I stand up, brushing off the bugs and dirt, making sure that nothing was missing. I finally conclude that what ever it was didn't take anything, but it did leave me unconscious. I then notice my surroundings, it is day, the blistering bright sun above my head gleaming its warm beams of light through the small hole in the canopy of the trees. Then I turn, looking at the spot in which the mysterious light came from, and I noticed it was a dried out campfire. I got confused, the creature that I encountered was definitely not human, it didn't sound human, and had incredible strength, so how did it get the knowledge of making a campfire. After pondering about this I decided that it can't be bothered with any more so I found my path in which I entered and started walking home. I finally get home, and go straight into the thing I said I would. I went to my expiraments table in my basement, yes I know the creepy basement, and got set up for when I get wake up from the nap I decided to take while still walking home. I finish setting up, then I start walking up to my bed and I notice that I'm limping. After noticing this I decide to go take a shower because the warm water will help with the leg of my right leg. I get out of the shower and notice the time 8:00 pm. I decide that I can start the expirament but maybe not be able to finish it. I go to my basement and start working. After trying everything I can before I go to bed, nothing happens. I stopped there and called it a day. I went upstairs, into my room and slept. In my dreams, I'm lost in what seems like a forest, but it is really hard to tell because of the small light that is coming from a distance. I open my mouth in hopes of being able to call out, "Hello?" to ask if anyone was there, but no words leave my mouth. I stand there feeling paralyzed, continuously trying to speak. After what seemed like eternity I here a sound, but I was confused. The sound I heard wasn't my own. It sounded very distant, but it still echoed through the forest as if the voice came from right behind me. I look up and notice the full moon dead center in the night, not moving what so ever. I gave up on questioning weird things. My attention was only on the task at hand, where was this voice I keep hearing coming from. I continue on down the dark path in the foresty dreamland of mine with high hopes on what I am about to witness. My surroundings suddenly change, now I'm outside near the forest. I decide that I have to go to the lit area in this land than the real. I get to the spot behind the tree that I was at when my concious body took on this journey. However, this time it was different. This time, I'm not blinded by curiosity, so I was able to hear the footsteps creeping up from behind. I turn around, then suddenly the object stopped abruptly, having a confused look on its face. "How did you know I was here?" the creature asked. It had a sweet soft voice, but it also sounded strick, like she was forcing her voice to sound friendly. "I...I...," I stutter testing to see if my voice would be heard, luckly it could. "I'm not destracted like I was before so I was able to hear your very light footsteps." It was strange, I knew whatever the creature was, it was right there, but it was all a blur to me, so all I saw was a slightly moving blob of dark blue color. "So I can tell," the creature replied, I couldn't quite tell what it was looking at, but then I new. Again like last time, my vision disapeared, but instead of darkness, all I saw was light. Then I awoke. Something was different, I wasn't in my comfortable bed in my house, no, I was back outside in the same spot from when I got knocked out. Suddenly I hear something. "So I see you have awaken." The voice said, it seemed familiar, but I wasn't sure. "Would you like me to tell you who and what I am?" the creature asked. What it didn't know was that I recognized the voice, it was the mysterious creature. "Please will you tell me, I am dying to know who you are." I reply,"my curiosity has taken control of my body twice now, and it is all been about who and what you are, so please let me see you." I call out, but there isn't a reply, but thankfully I hear ruffling of leaves behind me, I slowly turn around letting the true shape of the objet come into my view. I stood there dumbfounded by what I was seeing. "You're...." I trailed of from excitment, and out of curiousness. "Yes, I am the Princess of the Night: Princess Luna." she replies, using the royal canterlot speaking voice. She starts to giggle as I stare at her with a look of what seemed like a mixture between confusion, happiness and shock. "How did you get into this world?" I asked. "I will tell you, but in good time, for now I want you to please help find me shelter for where I can lay in peace without being disturbed until I'm able to get back to my home world, do you know where I might be able to stay?" the Princess asks. "Umm, well I own small home that has two rooms, but the other room is now used as a storage, but if you want I could clean it out for you if you choose to come with me, is that ok?" I ask in reply. "Anything that is offered, is thankfully recieved." she replies. After that, she followed me to my home, which thankfuly wasn't far away. Hopefully my friend will be able to help me on this. I ponder to myself as we reach my home. I invite her in, and she thanks me with a nod. > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- We get inside my house, and I turn on the lights. I pause, letting my vision settle before I start moving around. "Welcome." I said to Luna as she trots around the house in curiosty, examining every little detail of my home. "This is where you live?" Luna replies with a sound of disbelief in her voice. "Um, yes, is there something wrong?" I ask walking over to she what she was looking at. "Well, no, there isn't something wrong, it's just that I'm used to be living in a castle from my world, and so I haven't really gone into any others." she replied sheepishly. "Oh, ok then happy to know that this place is going to help you." I said. I gave her a tour of the house which included: the basement, the bathroom, her room, my room, the garage, the living room, and the kitchen. While walking her back into the living room, I notice that her main and coat were filthy. "Um excuse me Princess, but would you like to take a bath, your coat and mane seem a bit dirty?" I ask the regal visitor. She looks down, just realizing her appearance. "Oh, yes, please." she replied. I answered with a nod, walking with her to the bathroom where she will take her bath. When inside the bathroom, she now examins the tub, looking at it with curiosity. "Where you are from, don't you have baths?" I ask in puzzlement as she touches the tub, realizing that it isn't evil. "Yes we do, but noticing the fact I'm in your world, you should know that these are all new expiraments for me." She replied, while I start fidgetting with the knobs to get the right temperature for the water. "True, ya, I forgot about that part." I said in reply. "You never really told me, where you are from Princess." I said waiting for the tub to be filled so I can turn off the water, preventing it from overflowing. I knew the answer, but I didn't want to scare her. She might get the impression, that I know everything about her, so I decided to ask her. "I'm from Equestria, it is peaceful the majority of the time, but occasionally there might be some kind of evil trying to take over." she stated, sneering at the word evil like it was a forbidden word. "Your world sounds lovely, except for the occasional evil that is." I say, finally able to tun off the knobs I test the water, it's a bit hotter than I expected it to be, so I sat there talking to Luna for the time being. "That is why I'm here," she starts,"I have to find some mythical stone called the Philosopher's Stone, that is apparently can only be found in your world." she finishes, I look at her in shock. "You mean the stone that gives the user immortality?" I ask with the sound of shock clearly visible in my voice. "Yes.., why have you heard of it before?" she asks in return. I test the water again, then reply. "Yes I have, but we can talk about this later, your bath is ready." I said as she trots up to the side of the tub filled now with water. She stares into the water, then looks at me with suspicion. "What did you do with the water?" she asks, leaving me shocked that she doesn't trust me. "Don't you trust me after I'm giving you a place to sleep, and a place where you are welcome with open arms?" I ask in reply. "Yes, I do trust you, but I'm not used to this world, so I don't know who or what I should trust." she replies looking at her reflection in the water. She sticks one of her hooves into the water, then quickly brings it out, examining her hoof to make sure nothing happened to it. "I agree, I still don't know who to trust, and I have lived in this world my whole life." I said,"so yes I understand why you are suspicious about the water, and I'm ok with that because you are protecting yourself from potential danger." I finished. She looked reassured and said. "Well, no turning back now." before she starts to slowly descend into the water. "Oooh, this is comfortable." Luna says sitting on her bed that I cleared off. She starts fully exploring the room while I finish off bringing boxes down into the basement. When I got back upstairs from my last trip down into the basement, I hear oohs and awws from her bedroom. I walk in there and notice that she got excited over the window. When she noticed I walked in, she starts pestering me with questions: what is this?, how does it work?, why is it clear? can things outside see me through this?, can others get insinde through this thing? I answered all of her questions and explained that she didn't have to worry about other people getting into the house because this is a friendly neighborhood. "Tomorrow," Princess Luna starts,"will you help me find this stone or whatever it is?" she asked. "Only if you promise to trust me." I said in return. As soon as I said that something strange happened, she hugged me. "Oh, I just remembered, I have heard of the Philosopher's Stone, it is what every alchemist dreams of obtaining because, well what I've heard, is that it gives them a whole lot of power." I finish off telling her. She looked impressed. Before she was able to speak I told her to save her energy and that it was time to go to bed. After she let go of me, she looked sheepish, and I told her goodnight and started off towards my room. I myself will need rest because apparently tomorrow I go for my first quest, and not one in one of the games I play, a real quest, with a real Princess. Hopefully though I will remember to ask if my friend can come along with us. I don't know how, but he might be able to help in the most random places. > Chapter 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The morning started off good. Luna and I had a nice breackfast, and had little conversation. After we finished, we set off towards the mysterious forest. The same one I found her in. Again, we had little conversation, this silence was driving me crazy. "So, you want me to help you find a Philosopher's Stone so you can obtain unlimited power and become immortal to be able to protect your world from any upcoming threats, right?" I ask trying to break the silence that fell apon us. "Yes, that is right." the Princess replied. "Oh, almost forgot, is it ok if I call my friend and ask him to help us, he can be trusted and keep a secret?" I ask her. She got that worried look on her face, the same one when she took her first bath. "Only if you tell him to promise ME that he will keep what he sees a secret." she said sneering a bit at the thought of someone else besides me coming along. "Ok I'll tell him." I pulled out my phone and dailed his number. "Hello?" my friend asked as he answered his phone. "Hey Calvin." I said in reply. "Oh, hey Matthew, how have you been recently, I havn't heard from you in a few days, is everything ok?" he asked. I started to get annoyed by being asked so many questions in the past few days, but it was ok. "Ya, everything is ok." I said. I paused not sure if I should ask him. I look back at Luna, she had a hopeful look on her face. "I wanted to ask you if you are willing to help me on something?" I finally asked him. "Um, sure, what do you need?" he asked in reply. "You see.." I trail off, telling him what has happened the past few days, explaining even the little details. "Sure, I will help you guys, I am also happy you asked me." He said in reply. "No problem, do you know that forest next to my house?" I ask starting to give him directions. "Yes." he said "Ok, met us there, and be quick please, Luna made this seem really important to her." "Ok, I will be there as soon as I can." he said, moving out his door. "Ok, thanks for doing this." I said. We said bye, then Luna and I sat there and waited. We were waiting for about 5 minutes, then Calvin arrived. "Hey, hope I'm not late." he said pulling up in his car. "No, it is ok, thank you for coming so quickly." Calvin was confused, he only saw me, but I didn't say anything. then out from behind a tree came Princess Luna, smiling with sheer happiness that she had another person to help her fuldill her quest. "Oh, didn't see you. No problem Princess, it is my pleasure to help you with this mission you are on." He said, kneeling before the Princess. "There is no need to kneel before me in this world, in here I'm not a Princess like I am in my home world." Luna said with kindness in her voice. Calvin rose to his feet, blushing a little bit, feeling embarresed. "Ok, shall we get started?" I ask. "Yes, we shall." Luna said. We started acending into the forest, looking for any signs or clues leading us to a tower or something that might have the stone inside of it. We reached the spot where I found Luna then she spoke. "I remember now, when I was here, I found a piece of paper, but I couldn't understand it. It had what seemed like a riddle on it, but I don't really know all that is in this world, so when you found me, I thought that I might have to capture you in order to make you tell me what the meaning of this is." she told us. While telling this to us, she used her magic to get a piece of paper out of what seemed like a bag, but I haven't noticed it before. She levitates the paper to me and I grab it, releasing it from the magic's grip. I read what it says out loud. "Two regal sisters ruled here in a life before this, it is an old tower, so it is hard to miss." I finished reading it, then I read it again to myself making sure that I read it correctly. "Luna, don't you have an older sister?" I ask her. "Yes, why?" she replied. "I think that this means you and your sister. I think that we have to go to the old royal tower that is deep north in this forest. Your's and your sister's ancestors must have ruled in this world in the past." I said, and it seemed that she agreed. "Ok then, it is settled, we shall venture into the forest and find the royal castle." Calvin said. "Ok, but before we do, I must tell you this." Luna started, Calvin and I listened on intently to what she was saying. "In this forest, there are many creatures, some more powerful than the rest. Before you ask why I can feel the intensity of their power through my unicorn half of my body." she said in reply. "Ok, but, if there are many monsters, then what are we supposed to do, you have magic, but we only have our fists, and I don't want to sound rude, but I think that we aren't strong enough to face them." I said. Afterwards I appologized to Calvin making sure he wasn't offended. "I was getting to that. I have strong magic, as you may know, but it isn't strong enough to protect us all in this forest. This is because of this world, it is new to me so my magic may not be that effective to what is in there. However, us three will need to use the Elements of Harmony to get through the challanges that may be waiting for us." as Luna finished, Calvin and I got a weird look on our face. "How can we use the elements if we don't have them?" I asked. She smiled then replied. "Even though we don't have the elements with us, we still may be able to use them spiritually. If we can perform the elements in the challenges, then we may be able to surpass them." Luna finished, Calvin decided that him and I should believe her and so I did. Luna was a princess afterall, so even if I didn't believe what I was hearing, I still will trust her. "Ok then, I think it is time we finally start this quest." I said. "Indeed, this will be a long quest, but at the end, even if it kills you two, you would of tried your best in order to protect a world that isn't even yours." Luna said. I looked at Calvin, he too was thinking the same. What we are about to do, will be our best try to protect both Princess Luna, and her world of Equestria. As our three companions: Calvin, Matthew, and the Princess Luna look at the path they will be taking into the dark forest. This was strange to Matthew and Calvin, it was the middle of day, but the forest entry was pitch black. They take one last look at their surroundings, then nodded to each other. They were ready to begin, as they slowly walk to the beginning of the path, each of them carefully think on what creatures or challenges that may lay ahead of them, waiting for the right time to strike. As they reach the entrance, they go in. Author's note: Hopefully this doesn't have that many mistakes. The names are completely random, so don't worry i am not using real names. Yes, the last chapter is supposed to be in third person. I tried to make it like a narrator speaking.
