> Eclipse > by Starkie > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Death. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not a single pony had realized in the trillions of years that Princess Celestia and Princess Luna had reigned sovereign over the land of Equestria- even though history clearly showed it, that alicorns age. Not Starswirl the Bearded or Twilight the Spark had realized that one day their beloved princesses would whither, just as they had. Admittedly not one single pony had lived long enough to see what would account for even a single day of the alicorns compared lifespans. From the beginning to the end they had always seemed as if to be frozen in time, immortals. Perhaps this idea had been further enforced by the fact that even when an alicorn is poisoned or beheaded (Though very very few ever tried such a feat) they would still live, albeit a bit messily until the head is reattached... But today, two old and frail looking goddesses lay in one large bed together, as they have for several thousand years. Nearby sat their successors, the next great age's leaders- A large auburn coated colt with a flowing mane of nearly the same shade, a cutie mark of two rising and setting suns adorning his flank, and a slightly smaller filly with a light blue coat and much much darker mane. Her cutie mark was that of all the moons phases forming a circle. "Come, Come here children... And listen to the last words of an old mare..." Luna beckoned weakly to the filly, and Celestia to the colt, each child hurried over to their respective mothers and dipped their heads low, listening to the faint words before they trailed away. "................................................................." "................................................................." Luna awoke, surprised at the least that she was conscious ever again, let alone young and strong. She looked around her, seeing the still slumbering figure of her sister laying on a patch of inviting bright green grass. All around her was a great field of empty space, besides the very grasses they lay on and they themselves, there was not a single sign of life. The nighttime princess gently nudged her sister awake, curious and eager to see if her wise elder sister could perhaps tell her what was going on. "Mnn? Luna dear is something wrong?" "Just a little teeny thing 'Tia...We died right?" "Why of course we did Lulu...A few trillion years will do that to you sometimes." Celestia giggled a bit at her sister's puzzled face and motioned for her to sit with her. "Lulu...When a pony dies they say that their entire life will flash before their eyes, don't you think that would happen to us?" "I...Oh I get it! But...I don't remember this at all..." Oh Lulu, even we can't be expected to remember all that happens in our lives. I do know this however...It is the birth of things- oh you were far too little to know what was happening, see?" As Celestia's golden voice outward rang she tipped her head over to two little fillies, one pure as fresh snow, the other the color of a summer night. Luna instantly recognized the two, for how can you not recognize yourself? She smiled as the filly Celestia pawed at the ground and made little flowers grow, only for her baby sister to roll over and happily eat them. The little Celestia laughed and lovingly nuzzled the infant, making more flowers grow and watching as they met the same untimely demise. The adult Luna was laughing at the sight as the series repeated itself over and over again, the little version of Celestia starting to get a little red in the face. "Hey don't laugh! Do you have any idea what it's like spending a decade trying to make roses exist? It's not as fun as you could have let it be!" The adult Celestia rolled her eyes as Luna laughed harder, and thought back to the difficulties she had in bringing edible life into play in the world. As she thought, the world faded and rushed about them, pastel colors came and went but the sun stayed ever present, but so distant...The world was cold. It was only a few seconds before the world calmed down and time began to move about in it's normal pace. Celestia looked about; it was a few years later and she was still trying to grow flowers, a few patches had grown successfully but Luna was still following her around and eating most of what grew. Besides the multicolored roses there were now also tulips, carnations, posies, and dandelions. The more adult Luna came over and stood by here sister, looking at the devious grin that began to form over her pudgy little face as she watched little Luna eat the latest batch of lilies. With an almost humorous spurt of magic from her barely developed horn, the white alicorn filly caused a small bush to grow directly in front of her baby sister. The older Celestia, embarrassed at what happened next, covered her eyes with a hoof and dejectedly looked down. Baby Luna looked up at Celestia happily and giggled, the older Luna narrowed her eyes, trying to remember what she felt that day...She gasped aloud as little red berries began to form on the bush and drop into her child self's lap. "Cranberries! 'Tia cranberries!?" She shouted over the sudden sounds of a crying filly. "You gave the nastiest, sourest, meanest berry ever ever ever to me as a baby! Little filly's have sensitive palates and you know it!" "...Well... I did get to finish inventing a few more plants while you were crying..." "Oh 'Tia you are just EVIL! I haven't touched a cranberry ever since!" The world around them was rapidly changing into every experience Luna had had in her life refusing cranberries from the countless chefs that had tried to get her to try the vile little morsels. "Okay, Okay! I'm sorry Luna, how about a happier memory- you pick!" "Hmmm... Alright, how about this one...."
