My version of Discord's history before he was turned into stone

Discord's history is one that was erased from the books. Other than himself, Celestia, and Luna, no one knows of what had really happened behind the Nightmare Moon incident or why Celestia is the ruler of Equestria. In this fanfic, Discord was once a handsome alicorn, king of Equestria, loved by all, and always dwelled among his subjects. His second in command, Celestia, was a power hungry brute of a mare. Discord fell in love with the princess of the night, making her, if Discord should die, heir to the throne. Celestia was outraged and confronted her newly wed sister. Luna decided to punish her older sister by casting Equestria into eternal night and turning into Nightmare Moon. Celestia used her magic to banish her sister to the moon and turned her rage onto Discord. She turned him into a draqonius, a mash up of all the subjects he lived among. He was cast out by Celestia and his former subjects, no one believing him. When he had lost all hope, he began to study the magic of disharmony. He made it a point to ruin Celestia's life. That is, until she turned him into stone.

"Oh Fluttershy! Fluttershy!" A familiar voice called out to the shy pegasus in her cottage. "Fluttershy come on out!" The voice called again, starting to get a little impatient. The door opened slightly and a teal colored eye appeared in the crack before being ripped open to reveal a rather excited Fluttershy.

"Discord!!! You made it!!!" The yellow pegasus called out as she flew over to the spirit of disharmony and was greeted with a huge and a rather large, one-fanged smile.

"Hello my dear Fluttershy. I told you I would come. I wouldn't miss a date with you for all of the chocolate milk rain in the whole world!" He said warmly as he held the shy mare in his arms. After breaking the hug and hovering in front of him, Fluttershy held up a picnic basket. "You bought the sandwiches I love right?" He asked as he tried to peer into the basket.

"No peeking! You'll see when we get there!" Fluttershy told him and gave him one of her heart-warming smiles. Without waiting, she turned and headed off to the grassy field just outside of Ponyville. As they flew, Discord flew beside her, causing chaos that did not go unchecked by Fluttershy. She didn't need to look to know what he was doing.

"Discord, change it back." She told him each time he made a bunny's legs long or turned a passing cloud into cotton candy, raining down chocolate milk rain. Somehow Pinkie always seemed to be where the delicious rain came down.

After a few more chaotic pranks and constant scolding, the two reached the field and set up a blanket in the shade of a tree. They ate some food, Discord delighted to be eating Fluttershy's famous sandwiches. When the silence had gone on for a few minutes, Fluttershy broke the silence nervously. "D-Discord?"

"Yes, Fluttershy?"

"What's your history?"

Silence. Discord looked at the mare stunned. She instantly blushed a deep shade of red and turned away, hiding behind her pink bangs. "I was just wondering..." She added queitly. She suddenly yelped as she was picked up by Discord and was set into his lap as he rested against the tree.

"That, my sweet mare, happened a long time ago... I barely remember it... Of course, being trapped in stone can give one time to remember." Discord said, his voice weary and he seemed to age as he spoke. "But, I am willing to tell you. You can choose to believe it or not due to what had happened... But you must promise me something, Fluttershy."

"What is it Discord?"

"You must never tell Celestia nor Luna of this, do you hear? They will have you exiled and branded insane." He said, his voice suddenly stern, definitely out of character for him.

Fluttershy nodded insistantly and crossed her hoof over her chest. "Cross my heart." She said and looked up at him, her teal eyes glistening with kindness and curiosity. Discord smiled, almost sadly, as he nodded and took a deep breath. After exhaling, he started. Discord swiped his hand in a downward motion in front of him, opening what looked like a mirror or a portal. He sighed gently and touched the screen. The surface rippled and showed a maroon alicorn, his mane a dark shade of brown and his eyes, a glistening red.

"That is me." Discord said, his voice once again weary. Fluttershy looked up at him curiously then at the alicorn on the screen. "You used to be an alicorn?" She asked him. He nodded and hung his head slightly. "I was the ruler of equestia... Before it was ruled by Celestia," He said the name with distaste like it was a bitter piece of food. "I had ruled Equestria."

"Ponies of Equestria!!!" The alicorn boomed, standing on a balcony above a rather large group of ponies. He cleared his throat and smiled. "My beloved citizens! I have gathered those of you who could attend to spark the annual Winter Wrap-Up ceremony!" He yelled and several cheers arose from the crowd. A few pegasi few in the sky, creating streaks of a few different colors. "Let the Wrap-Up begin!" He annouced and a cheer loud enough to burst anypony's eardrums rang through the kingdom.

After the crowd dispersed, the alicorn turned to two alicorns standing behind him. "Luna, Celestia, how did I do?" He asked, his trade mark one-fanged grin beaming at the sisters. "It was excellent, Discord." Luna said and smiled, her smile seeming to glow like the moon. Celestia, on the other hand, snorted and looked over the balcony. "You could have done much better." She said harshly. Discord sighed and walked back into the castle, greeted by his guards. "Celestia, will you ever soften that hard heart of yours? For the sun goddess, you can sure be cold." He said, only to be answered with a snort.

A few hours later, the sky was a clear blue and the birds were chirping in the new spring. Discord sat in his study, reading and mumbling to himself softly. A knock at the large doors startled him from his book. He looked at the door and saw a white alicorn enter the dim study. "Celestia." He said flatly and returned to his book.

"Good to see you're so excited to see me." Celestia said, a grin slowly spreading across her snout as if she had amused herself. "Cooped up in your study again? It's awfully dim in here." She said tauntingly as the tip of her horn glowed.

Discord flinched and sighed. "Thank you, Celestia, but I'm fine." He read a few lines before standing and using his magic to put the books away. "If you don't mind, I'll be traveling until night. Please wake up Luna when it's her time." He said and walked out, nodding to the guards. He gave a wary look over his shoulder back at the white mare in the study. He shook his head and flew out of the balcony, opening his maroon wings and catching a warm breeze.

Soaring through the sky always cleared Discord's head, like the weather pegasi clearing the sky. He dipped and dove, as if gravity never existed. After flying at a steady rate, he sighed and turned onto his back. "What am I to do with Celestia...?" He asked himself aloud. "One of these days, I won't be able to fend her off..." Discord turned back onto his stomach as he flew over Ponyville. He smiled and dove down until he landed in front of the public library. He shook out his mane and was instantly greeted by a citizen. "Honey Comb! It's good to see you again!" The honey colored mare giggled and continued on her way. "Ponies are always so nice here... I don't want Celestia to change that..." He said and continued to walk. He trotted around Ponyville, ordering a cupcake from a family owned bakery, taking a flower or two from the local florist. "Thanks again, Lily!" He flashed her a grin and continued on his way.

Without realizing it, he wandered into the Everfree Forest. He glanced around as he walked, avoiding plants that would make him talk backwards or have mutiple talents. He glanced up at the sky and saw the sun fading behind the trees, night blanketing the small town like a blanket of stars. He smiled and started to make his wat back to the castle. He arrived on the balcony just as Luna was turning to go inside. "Luna!" He exclaimed and the blue princess turned around in surprise. "Discord! Where have you been?!" She exclaimed. Discord scratched his head embarrassingly and gave a small laugh. "I wanted to go out for a quick fly... I guess the time got away from me." He said and looked back at the younger princess. Luna smiled and shook her head. "Always running off to see the citizens, Discord." She laughed and looked up at the maroon alicorn.

Discord's heart skipped a beat at the laugh she gave. The stars in her ethereal mane twinkled like the stars in the sky and lighting up her eyes. Suddenly overcome with nervousness, Discord stuttered, "U-Uhm... I-I guess I sh-should get going..." Luna's smile faded slightly but only for a second. "Alright then, Discord. I'll see you in the morning." She said and dipped her head. Discord bit his lip and quickly pressed his muzzle against her ear in a small kiss before running off into the castle. With his head ducked down, he nearly speared Celestia as he ran away from Luna.

"Like a colt in a schoolyard." Celestia said coldly as she stared down at her superior. "C-Celestia! I didn't see you there!" Discord said, obviously startled. Celestia looked passed him at her sister gazing curiously at Discord, her cheeks a light shade of pink. "Have you taken a liking for my dear little sister?" She asked curiously. Discord started down at his hooves, his mane falling over his face to hide his intense blush. Celestia stared at the stallion, rage burning inside of her like the sun itself. "I see." She said and continued her way to her room. Discord stared back at the pale mare then shook his head. He trotted to his room and jumped onto his lush bed. He sighed in relaxation and hugged his pillow, the way he did every night. His last thought before he slipped into unconsciousness was Luna's mane and her smell of faint lavender.
