> A Dare's a Dare > by Captain Moneybags > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Oh Look, a Shipfic > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Good morning Dashie!" A somewhat familiar, cheery voice rang in Rainbow Dash's ears. Still sleepy, she turned over, to be met with a soft nudge against her back. "I said: Good morning, Dashie!" Dash rolled on her back and opened her eyes, finding herself staring into the bright blue eyes of one of her best friends. If not the best. Pinkie giggled. "Wake up, sleepyhead! I made you breakfast, it's getting cold!" Rainbow now noticed the faint smell of daisy pancakes coming from the kitchen. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, and got out of bed. "Pinkie, how do you keep getting into my house? It's locked at night, not to mention flying." The pink mare replied by giggling. "You keep a spare key under the culumunumunimbus flower." Dash shook her head. She didn't even have flowers outside. The cyan pegasus wandered into the kitchen, finding a plate of warm pancakes waiting for her. Daisy, just as she liked them. She didn't hesitate before taking one, ready to dig in. But she didn't. Instead, she help it out to the friend who baked them for her. "You want some?" Pinkie nodded, and took it in her mouth. "I already had breakfast, but your flour is soooo good!" She said. Dash took a pancake for herself, and took a bite. "Wow! Somepony has been doing their extra best today! These are awesome!" Pinkie giggled, although not as cheerily as usual. Dash could've sworn she was blushing. "Well, it is a very special day today, one that calls for extra-delicious breakfast fresh-out-of-bed!" Rainbow Dash tilted her head. "Yeah, now that you say it... Not to sound rude Pinkie, I love your company and all, but why are you here so early?" Pinkie seemed slightly shocked. "You don't know? That makes it an even better surprise!" She didn't give her winged friend the time to finish her pancake before taking her by the hoof and dragging her into her own living room. Rainbow was... Astounded. The room was covered in decorations, from streamers to ribbons and far more. All in reddish colours, though most of them a lighter hue. She swallowed hard, looking at it in awe, as her friend bounced into the room, fetching a hoof-made card. She was definitely blushing when she held the card out for Rainbow. "Happy Hearts and Hooves Day Dashie!" Dash reluctantly took the card. It said exactly what Pinkie had just told her. 'Happy Hearts and Hooves Day!' She stared at it in disbelief. Surely Pinkie wouldn't... Nah. She's just being Pinkie. "You're cute when you're blushing." The comment completely threw Dash off balance. "I'm not! I wasn't!" She quickly put the card away in a nearby drawer, chuckling nervously. "But, heh, really nice Pinkie, giving me a card and everything because you know I wouldn't be getting one... I'm sorry I didn't get you anything..." Pinkie tilted her head. "But you are getting cards today! I jut wanted mine to really stand out, because a day as special as this shouldn't be just a card! It's about spending time with each other, right?" Actually, it's about spending time with your Special Somepony... Dash nervously looked around. Was Pinkie being serious? Pinkie didn't give her rainbow-maned friend a lot of time to think. "You did get me a present! Right behind you!" Dash turned around, surprised to find a largish box, wrapped in red, with a card attached reading 'Pinkie Pie'. The i's were even dotted with little hearts. Dash picked it up, and handed it over to her guest. Pinkie gasped. "Wow! For me?" She quickly tore the paper away, revealing... A slightly smaller box, wrapped in red, with a card attached reading 'Rainbow Dash'. The i was even dotted with a little heart. Pinkie gave the present back. "Surprise!" Dash looked at it, a little confused. "Mind if I sit down? You can sit with me, of course!" Pinkie nodded happily, and jumped into the couch, inviting her friend to sit next to her. Rainbow didn't remember her couch to be so cozy. Or pink. Or heart-shaped. She was sitting really close to Pinkie, their flanks touching, even though they were as far apart as possible. Rainbow opened the present, half expecting to find a present for Pinkie inside. But she didn't. There was a box of chocolates, group tickets to the next four Wonderbolts shows, and another card, which was not unlike the first one, but not the same either. To start with, it was more pink in colour. This one was also heart shaped. And it had a lot more text. Dashie, you probably think this is a joke, just me being me, but it isn't. I'm scared to tell you, but I have the super-duper heaviestest crush on you! Happy Hearts and Hooves Day Dashie, and I hope you'll find your Special Somepony today! P.S. Can it be me? When Dash looked up from reading the card, she found Pinkie blushing and fidgeting slightly. She was looking the other way, probably waiting for her to finish reading. "Pinkie... Wow..." Was all Dash could bring over her lips. The normally cheery party pony turned her head to face Dash, a hopeful, yet slightly embarrassed look in her eyes. "So... Do you like the gift...?" Dash nodded, faintly at first, but heavier and heavier by the second. If she had only known Pinkie was feeling the same way all along! Well, Dash wouldn't describe it as 'the super-duper heaviestest crush', but strong feelings were there. "I don't think any card or gift can top this Pinkie..." Dash said after realizing how long she'd remained silent. "You... You can be my Very Special Somepony." Pinkie's eyes fluttered wide open. She was really so completely and utterly amazed she even forgot to gasp. "Seriously?" She didn't wait for an answer, but leapt forward for a hug-tackle. Good thing Dash is so sturdy. "AwesomeawesomeAWESOME!" At this point, Pinkie couldn't hide her happiness to save her life. Dash smiled, a little nervously at first, but she soon answered her friend's embrace. Although... friend? More than that, by this point. She snuggled her face into the curly pink mane, letting herself getting engulfed in the sweet scent. After what seemed like years, Pinkie let go. Were those tears in her eyes? Dash's chest was dry however, so maybe they weren't. "You have abso-posi-lutely no idea how much this means to me! I'll do everything for you Dashie! I'll bake you all the cakes you want, and throw you parties, and be quiet when you ask me, and-" Dash put a hoof over Pinkie's mouth, stopped the flood of words. "You don't have to. Just be Pinkie, and you won't ever lose me." Pinkie's eyes definitely teared up again this time. "R-really?" She swallowed. "You see? This is why... why... I love you Dashie." The cyan mare was thrown off by this a teensy bit, but managed to keep what was left of her cool attitude and composure. "I... I love you too Pinkie." She felt the time was right. She leaned forward, closed her eyes and... Dash's heart almost fluttered out of her chest as her lips met Pinkie's. A long, deep kiss. Her first REAL kiss. After several minutes that were way too short, Pinkie pulled back again. She was beaming brightly, almost basking in her pure, overflowing love, and Dash was pretty sure she looked the same way. But she didn't mind for now. The only pony watching her was the pony that made her feel as if she could take on the world and win. The two spent an indefinite amount of time gazing into each other's eyes, occasionally leaning in for a long, deep, passionate kiss. They said nothing. They didn't have to say anything anyways. At least, until the silence was broken by the low rumble of Rainbow's stomach. Oh, right. Breakfast. Pinkie jumped up. "I'll get them!" Within a minute, Dash was holding a plate of daisy pancakes in one hand, and her new marefriend in the other. They just sat there, watching a little TV, eating pancakes. But the TV was just background noise. The real show, for Rainbow Dash at least, was Pinkie. And, of course, vice versa. Dash looked at the cheery pony next to her, smiling broadly. Hell yeah. Today was already the day of her life.
